Brilliant work! Thank you for helping this beautiful and innocent bird. Often the public are only interested in RAPTORS! But these are the birds that are indicators of the health of the environment, once we have healthy populations of our bread and butter song birds, then the raptors can look after themselves.

We need to change our farming regulations from those of the E.U. regulations that have largely damaged our ecosphere.

Saw a lone Turtle dove purring away at RSPB Snettisham 26/6/2022.....sad to think it was a solitary bird with no mate....more needs to be done to stop the slaughter of these beautiful birds as they cross the Mediterranean

Wonderful project and information . More farmers needed to get involved across our contract and change the way they farm to save these beautiful birds , that are so iconic to this land .

In Europe, our countries protect and take care of them, but in autumn, when they travel to Africa, are killed in Morocco. I've seen videos with thousands of them dead. In Spain the europe turtle have desappeard of a lot of regions in a few decades. It's the same with the Columba oenas.

Generally all people, who live around the Mediterran Sea are bandits and bastards. Mainly Maltans, which I hate the most. Malta is the only country with an EU derogation to shoot birds during their spring migration to breeding grounds.

just a search on-line supports the decline hypothesis- this is from Wikipedia- Populations of turtle dove are in rapid decline across Europe and this species has red list conservation status globally. In the United Kingdom its numbers have declined by 93% since 1994 and across Europe numbers fell by 78% 1980-2013- which suggests that only 22% remain, which is better than the 7% in the uk, but it is still a very significant decline, would you not agree?

Ok, so stop saying that hunters are responsible for the decreased number of turtle doves. The issues are : Chemicals in agriculture, Nets in Africa and Hunting in Skopje and Bulgaria from 1 of August. No hunting generally. If you are not informed don't say stupid things. Do your research first and then have an opinion.
