  • Here's a Half Track With Cummins Diesel Engine You NEVER See!
Alex and Kurt take a ride in a 1930's Linn Tractor with an early Cummins Diesel engine. This Linn was used an a mine in Canada. This tractor selling April 24, 2020 on the Annual Pre-30 Auction. Follow this link bit.ly/39xjiHR to see all the catalogs.
    H. H. Linn initially built his own tractor-truck purely out of his own need. He has previously represented the Lombard company so he had previous experience with track design. The half-track truck design worked very well so in short time he began manufacturing them in his hometown, Morris, NY. These tractors were mostly used in logging and lumber operations but were also used by the U.S. government for various heavy duty jobs. This example has been completely restored and is powered by an early Cummins diesel engine. It runs and drives and has a beautifully restored wooden bed with a cable operated tailgate.

I did the restoration of this truck in 2004, did a lot of research on the original cab maker to respect his craft at the time. Its Ohio 1/4 sawn white oak supplied by PJ White hardwoods Edmonton Alberta Canada. It was a mythodical journey of true woodwork that I am proud of. Thanks for those who appreciate what I did, -Jeff Kiss

That is one cool truck. When I saw the traction machine in the background, it reminded me that I am the owner of one myself. Funny how time flies and what we forget... I was driving in the backwoods of Missouri one day, 35 years ago, when I came across an old traction machine sitting in a field. Curious, I got out to take a look. Nearby was an old farmhouse. Out came an elderly lady who was very nice. To make a long story short. She asked me if I like the "Old girl". I said that I did. So, the lady gave it to me. "It's yours. Take her home." Like I could do that. LOL

H model Cummins made back in the day when mechanics were real men. The fuel pump weighed nearly 200 pounds, the generator 85, the starter around 50 or so. Head bolts torqued to 450 ft lbs, mains to 350ft lbs.Hp ranged from 130 for the 2 valve head models to 320 for the supercharged 4 valve head models. They were tough dependable engines. Some were still in daily use in the 1960;s

Model D-35 (1935) Linn, they began using Cummins in late 1932, it's a "H" 6 cylinder, they were still available with 4 or 6 cylinder gas Waukesha, HXB or HXE gas Hercules or diesel DFXE at that time, original owner was McIntyre-Porcupine Mines in Canada, I believe it was at Earlton, ONT in 1994, and that Ray Bethelette sold it to Bill Graham and they (Bill Kiss and others) restored it about 2005 (when they contacted me for data). I have a page for "Linn Tractors, Trailers and Vans" on face book.
