I suggest going back and randomly re-watching those arcs. My girlfriend and I watched all of One Piece in under 3 months about a year ago (we are super hooked now) and I said I also disliked those same arcs. She suggested I go back and watch them again and I actually really enjoyed them, you miss a lot of fun and story when you watch an anime straight through.

Each character has his/her own story that plays a generally deep part in the series and with some of them (ok...all of them) have a really depressing background story. Sometimes the background will comeback to play a larger part later in the story, or u will find out another piece of their history......ok...sorry but i didn't explain that well so plz just ignore this comment XD
