I started with two stick insects, now i have 200+ stick insects And it took me 4 hours today to clean their enclosure, You have to get them all out one by one and then one by one back, but i still love them🙃
I have looked after stick insects for over 3 years and this video is true they really aren't boring! It's also fun to put them in the bath and watch them and play with them and if u don't have a bathe just put them in a big tub and they are also so easy to feed so stick insects are amazing pets for beginner or experienced pet owners I would really recommend stick insects to everyone
I have 10 adults at the minute, just had a baby arrive yesterday. Kept loads over the last 4 years, I absolutely adore them, especially when they get their wobble on ☺
Very cool what you said about using the ova as fish food. Do you still need to freeze them before feeding them to fish or are they good to go without it? Don’t want to potentially make anything sick. Also, I really enjoyed this video, it was so full of interesting facts and was very informative. I’ve researched these insects for a while but there are a lot of things you’ve brought up that I hadn’t heard or thought of before. Loved it!
I don't think that stick insects are boring at all. They're truly interesting animals. Thanks for introducing them to me, Sam. You've made me interested in them. I check them out during the next expo I visit. xxxxxxxxxxxx
I found my beautiful green stick insect on my windowsill! So lucky he didn't get squished in the bed he was about to crawl on! His name was Sticky. I do have a question though, he only lived from about March to the beginning of November, I don't think that's right is it? Unfortunately we lived in a very cold house and it was always cold in the winter, I tried to insulate the box with towels but the heating never worked and my ex didnt want him in our tiny room...:( He grew to about 21 cm! I swear!! He was in a large plastic storage box and a mesh fabric side, I fed him harvested Ash, Bramble, Rose and other foraged food....the whole time, fish food??!!
That is so cool. She looked like a stick sitting there. So nice of you to have given some to someone who wanted to get into them. I learned so much from this video. I am going to have to watch several times. Thank you for doing this video.
Great beginner species! I keep them on dry aquarium sand, as I do with all my phasmids. Then once a week, when changing the food plants, I use a small sifter to go through the sand. And the faeces and ova will be left :) With species that need more humidity, I provide some boxes with wet sphagnum moss
As a phasmid keeper I can assure you these guys are fascinating (especially at night) I still have my culture (given some to my friends ) but they were my first invertebrate so I’m keeping a few! Great video!
Where is the best place to buy? There are many shops online and it’s hard to know which ones are scams. I’m looking to get some Indian stick insects to start a stick insect collection with my children for school.
I know this is an old video but I currently have 5 female Indian stick insects, feeding on bramble. My question to you is do they require additional heat? I'm in Liverpool, UK. My house isn't the warmest. I read they require temperatures between 20-23. Do they also require a UV bulb? There seems to be lots of conflicting information online. I would be most grateful if you could reply. 🙂
Hi dude, what about the stick insects that live wild in the uk? I think there were three species that have naturalised. Is that true? They must tolerate much lower temperatures than you would find in a house?@@OldChannelBugRealms
i have 2 stick insects i walked into my room and one of them (tuna) was in soil because we have soil for them for insects he started flopping around in it and he cant walk with his to legs in front and they get good temp and food water like priv leaves and brambles and gem lettace and we dont know if her will make it alive ... anyone know what is going on ?? if anyone can tell that be great i love him so much now i put him in tank on kitchen roll on a block thing he is just lying there with his face down but is tail is going up and down i dont know !!
Did he die? Sounds like he was dieing to me. Maybe insecticide on the gem lettuce. If they only eat a little it tends to cause that sort of uncoordination of the limbs so they can't stand properly & the heaving of the abdomen. But it's just a guess.
Can chickens eat stick insects? Im looking in keeping one as a pet :) but then learning that they can multiply without a male I figure, I could give the eggs or the insect to my chickens as a snack :D but I want to make sure its safe of course.
Hi. Always love your vids. I know have around 73 indian ones as well as 9 other breads. Love watching them drink of leaves and eating. I wouldn't have any if it wasn't for you. You make it seem so easy. Thank you. Please keep the vids coming
What about if you don't want any other stick insects and only one a couple because I get kind of grossed when there is more than 5 do they all lay eggs everyday or not
Some species can only produce viable eggs through mating. But also many sp don't need a male. So if you get a species that needs a male but only keep females (or only males) you will be fine. Other than that, I'm afraid not.
I’m using all your videos to really get my info before I get a couple and wow you are top notch with your knowledge dude couldn’t hit the subscribe button fast enough! 💕
@@MrEllyallen likely hood is that she's hardened like this, so may not survive I'm afraid. Best u can do is a warm wet cotton bud around the legs and the egg.
My stick insects recently just started reproducing rapidly over the past 3-4 days and I have literally 30+!!!! They keep exploding and I have no idea what to do because I’m very new to this, and they are escaping their big enclosure so I’ve had to move them to a smaller one that they somehow still escape from too
Keep an eye on the channel dude. We are moving back into stick insects later this month and I'll be covering alot of topics to help people out. For now, just find something with a tight lid, or mesh to cover any larger vent holes 😉
I have fed mine oak leaves but winter is coming, and I have her offspring, where do get the food from, because as an entomologist and her best friend I had promised to take care of them for her when she passes, and I don't want to freeze them, can you give me a link to some food for them please, I love her so much and and the eggs she gave me, but what's hard for me is that soon she leaves me. 😣🙁😢😭😟

They don't need additional heat or light as long as they aren't left in darkness or if it gets reeeeally cold. Ull be fine with what u have 😊
@@OldChannelBugRealms Aww thank you for such a fast response. I was worried because being in the UK and living in an old house it does get cold. 😊

I’m getting some soon! Can you keep 2-3 in a small Tupperware box, for example with air holes?
How long do indian stick insect babies take to molt

Think you wont read this, but my stick insect is not full size but has the red patches, is she just small but adult or what?
