    In this video an old but effective trick to make your drum more powerful and to try to somehow recreate the effect of a smashed drum room track if your mix happens not to have one.
    Selectively sending elements to a distortion parallel channel, compressing, saturating and adding some stereo element and ambience with a simple reverb, all this with a twist, a deesser in between used heavily to shape the tone of our "fake room track"

    First time passing through your channel but after watching this I will be coming by more often. Excellent video.

    As an extra cool couple of steps, would be cool to add a transient designer to it, turn attack all the way down and sustain all the way up (insert this before the reverb), then after the reverb, throw on a time delay plugin to make the track hit slightly after to give it some distance like a real room mic (of course watch phase with the delay times). Cool vid!

    Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely try this on my next mix. Looking forward to the API shoot out, I just picked up the Studio classics bundle from waves and I love it, haven't dug into the API stuff yet cause the SSL plugs are rockin! As always, thank you for taking the time to post these videos and keep up the good work!

    Hey David, nice tutorial. I will definitely mess around with this. BTW, I finally got a chance to check out the stuff on your cloud. Your mixes are inspiring dude. Your passion for your profession comes shining through on every track. Wish my shit sounded like that.

    Great trick! I've just done this technique this week( kick, snare+ toms) but I haven't tried putting a Desser on it yet, I might give that ago, thanks David.

    If you're feeling adventurous, put the reverb FIRST in the chain.

    Great stuff as always. Quick question, is that compressed drum channel in mono or stereo? Also, I've heard you mention that you use mono reverb channels in your mix and I personally would like to see a video on mono reverbs (when to use them, why you use them, etc.). Love your videos, keep 'em coming!

    Amazing video - been watching all your videos relevant to me since finding your channel a couple of weeks back. You are the single greatest source of info for a home studio guy like me! One question about this technique - when sending the kick and snare out to the buss are you sending the totally dry versions as recorded, or sending them with any processing already on (compression, saturation etc)?

    Great video but can you make a video about aliasing issues? I noticed that if you mix then render a mix, the mix sounds like it has a "belly button" in the center. It doesnt sound flat where the tracks sound more separated and defined and they also sound as if a film is covering the track if that makes sense. I mix down the tracks properly, I use ducking for the bass and kick sounds and I also make sure all my tracks are in proper phase. The final mix is loud with clarity but compared to other commercial mixes, it seems as if something is missing that would allow my tracks to sound more individualized after the mixdown process. Can you help or do you have any suggestions???

      You had a video referring to sample rates. I mix at 48k and from the speakers everything sounds perfect. I noticed that when I bounce down to 44.1 there is an issue

    • @MadACeTeeMack
      @MadACeTeeMack 8 лет назад

      Do you think the down sampling is causing that?

    • @MadACeTeeMack
      @MadACeTeeMack 8 лет назад

      I don't have that issue when I mix tracks coming straight from my keyboard through the ADAT. It only happens with sounds I create in the box then mix from my Machine software

    • @MadACeTeeMack
      @MadACeTeeMack 8 лет назад

      My keyboard sounds remain separated but the internal sounds from in the box samples and sounds end up like that

    • @MadACeTeeMack
      @MadACeTeeMack 8 лет назад

      Should I bounce those sounds from my ADATout to another interface, or is there a way that my mix sound more separated without it. Help?

      I had been stuck for months with really thin and weak mixes because I was mixing with my eyes, not my ears, so I totally identified with you closing your eyes and being surprised with your settings. When I started using my ears to guide me, I found I had way more compression and distortion on my drums and bass and less upper mids on guitars.
