I like the use of adjectives such as "large" and "massive" while spinning around your character....
It is true weight ability is important during the first hour and ten upgrades in level, but ... then your avatar freezes to death at least once and sometimes a torch is just not enough. The other option, which is likely more useful than collecting resources right away is to explore the map. Each time your avatar dies, pick a different respawn point until you have managed to explore a large share of what is possible on that map. The advantage is you will have a better idea just how safe, or dangerous those areas are right away. Don't worry about eating, drinking, or collecting resources and crafting since the next death allows another respawn to reveal more of the map. You can also craft a few things for another level or two once you are satisfied you have revealed enough of the map and are ready to settle down. By then you will also have a good idea what areas are still available for constructing a base, if any beach zones are open. Clearly this is a strategy most new players will not know to employee right off in the first hours of gameplay.
Anyone else having a glitch sometimes when you dismount and the camera gets stuck in your body, or it acts like you're in 'K' mode but you can't interact with anything? This happens at least once a day to me.
Most are from my understanding.

Mind wipes - As said, they are very useful and an excellent way to change, or assign points to your avatar to meet current desires in ability. It is also a great way to change what your avatar can craft since there always comes a point when a Engram either loses importance, or becomes very important to have. The catch is you cannot use a Mind Wipe as often as you might desire. I think the limit is one per 24 hours, so you will have to wait until the next time you play to use another one and change your avatar's abilities, and Engrams. A good example is how much weight the avatar can carry, and higher crafting skill when constructing a huge base of operations. You might be changing your base from a stone fortress to all metal and want to be able to do more per gaming session. Another would be wanting to be able to do more while hunting, or fighting an END game boss.
The hidden hotbar is default set for most new players, meaning you have to hold down the Q key for about a second, or two for it to show. You cancel the hidden hotbar by pressing the Q key again for about half a second. Notice there is a 9 on the left size and a 0 on the other end of the hidden hotbar. Press either to rotate from one hidden hotbar to the other. So far I have not been able to select what is shown in the hidden hotbars and there are only two.

As noted, having a flying pet you can ride can be a huge advantage in gameplay, but .... and here is the issue for new players - there is a ton of things to learn how to do. One thing that is often true on most servers, including the Official servers is some players want to help new players and will offer better pets for free, or at a low cost. Tell the other players who are online when you are that you are new and need help. If you gain a response try to offer to buy pets, starting with flyers and remind the other players you have just arrived and started on this server. There are many types of flyers in the game, but they are mostly useless without a saddle. They also need to be fed with the required food type, or they starve to death. I am assuming you have started your base build and have something to offer in trade for some extra pets the other players have and don't need.
As stated, the purpose of collecting loot drops and other options that become available in caves and other places is the blueprints. The blueprints are going to offer better crafting options at a higher ability, or rating. At first, the next level of blueprint above what you can craft by investing in basic crafting skills through the Engrams system will be with a green background labeled Ramshackle. The better blueprints will have a change in the background color, a different label and will require more materials to craft the object. If you noticed, Teachers avatar is well above level 50, and he has made a lot of investments into various avatar abilities, so he can do a lot more than your avatar can as a new player. Each time your avatar gains a level, it takes more experience points to gain the next level and this process is a very long and ever slower game element. Hence the reason I said only the stubborn, determined, and players will a very high tolerance level for Early Access games will continue to play.
You do need to mention Otters are rare creatures in ARK. Always have been and tend to be found in the dangerous zones. As if that wasn't bad enough, they are not easy to tame. Something first time players won't know how to do and are likely to find taming one near impossible if they get lucky enough to see one in the first week of gameplay at three hours per day. The key point is new players will normally seek the safest zones, which happen to be very rare Otter spawn zones. Obviously something you have forgotten after playing so much ARK Survival Evolved and the newer version: Ascended.

11:45 You didn't show it off, but the seaweed is a great source of early game fibre
Loot drops/crates have a level requirement, so don't think you can collect from one before the time limit expires. At first the only loot drops you can collect from will be the white ones, but I think your avatar needs to be at least level 5. Green is available around level 15, or so. It has been a while since I was new to the Official server I am playing on, so I am not sure about the minimum levels each loot drop type requires. Get to one before the timer expires and it will tell you what level you need to be if your avatar is under the required level. As stated, loot drops are important to always collect from and the ones with the red ring, even better. I am assuming your avatar has enough weight ability to not become overloaded if everything to taken. I am also assuming your base of operations has plenty of additional storage for stuff you no longer want and you have unlocked some of the extra storage for others to check out and take if they want. A small shed near your main building can serve as a FREE to TAKE place for the extra unlocked storage and supplies.
Explorer notes in boxes, or jars on Official servers don't always work as explained. Even worse, some ruins don't have either a box, or jar to open while seeking a bump up in levels, or a temporary boost in experience points gained by doing a task, or two. Some boxes and jars you open by standing on them do nothing, but that is assuming the ruin you find has a box, or jar to open. No doubt this is causing a lot of complaints by experienced players that know how to make complaints. It may be after earning enough levels the bump up in levels is disabled, as well as getting a temporary boost in experience points gained by doing tasks. It is also possible the notes are turned off due to a bug, or two they are trying to fix. In short, the game is in Early Access, so expect it to have issues and need a lot more programming just like the original game still does. Keep in mind the original game never did come off of Early Access, so the same is likely true of this version.
Just getting back into ARK now that ASA is out. I was still more or less a beginner though so most of these I found very helpful. I hope they fix that invisible poop bug though. I see it is the same for you as it is me. It's there, you can still pick it up if you aim correctly, but it's not visible.
If your mounted when your trigger Explorer Notes, the mount also get massive XP bump same as the player, I find it useful to not get the notes untill I have a good flyer then, hunt them down to power level my flyer

Weirdly, sometimes the baby tames give me bonus tame levels. Sometimes, they don't. It's unrelated to imprints, but I haven't found a pattern yet--taming the parent first doesn't seem to make it consistent.
I saw a video that said extra levels are tied to logging off and logging back in. If the dino spawned after in game then no extra lvls. Probably not intended.
Yeah I had a trike. On default settings took 3 days and 6k berries to tame. Was a 120. Taming only did 60% imprint. It tamed out at 120. If babies don’t get taking bonus they are worthless. I may be unique because I am playing 1x settings. I hope it is a bug.
i think claiming a wild baby is just worth it as long as you cant tame the parents. like a rex when your level is so low you dont have tranqs. the bonus level you get from taming will top the imprint bonus in most cases. also you dont know if you can imprint it in the end so taming the parents and then maybe breed and imprint a baby later is the better option imho.
First 10 lvl is not weight when doing a note run. Used to be speed but now should be stamina. Then you can do weight!

As a long time Ark player first step install backpack and reusable MODS lol but seriously a torch is your early game best friend, trodon and Hyena run away when on fire ie it is a great early game defense weapon.
Moshop and Otter are great early tames that will carry you through most of the rest of the game, with cryo pods a Moshop in your pocket = never running out of taming drugs/berries/fiber.
Question for everyone why do I need hide for a bed, throw some leaves on the ground and I am good, and a foundation to place a mortar and pestle come on its just a stone bowl.
New players playing on an Official server are going to find the raising of the baby, or slightly older dinosaurs they claim a very time consuming and food feeding time sink. Not only does the feeding task take literally days of gameplay to complete, but you also need a ton of the required food on hand. Many new players will find these chores too much of a drain on their patience and never finish the process successfully, or the young dinosaur will suddenly starve to death while you are out and about collecting food, or doing some other tasks. Starting this process by first hatching eggs is even more of a test of your tolerance for the tasks and patience. I am assuming you have learned how to hatch eggs in the newer game version and a number of other processes. In short, new players are less likely to want to do more than tame the adult dinosaurs until they are convinced doing more is needed to achieve other game goal. Like fighting the Alpha dinosaurs, hunting meat, or taming higher level dinosaurs, and end game boss dinosaurs.

5:38 When I used that hotbar I noticed that switching back and forth clears the static bar of all 0 or missing items. The dynamic bar has every item that is hotbar compatible. I also think it uses the inventory with unsorted item order starting from top to bottom.
7:50 Parent dino's seem to have an indicator on them as well. It's not the couple bonus heart it a white heart looking symbol.
8:21 There is a setting too. In the options you can set to show last death X times. By default its my last 3 deaths, but IDK if there is an official cap.
11:25 Speaking of O2 did you notice the new base of 02 is now 150 not 100. It freaked me out when I saw it I thought I missed the weight lv up 5 and accidently upped O2.
Ah thank you for these cool Beginner Tips! This will greatly benefit me because I had Ark: Survival Evolved but I hardly played it. Just heard about Ark: Survival Ascended from a good friend not too long ago. I'm just waiting on the price to go down in the Steam Store to purchase it.

I’m currently playing on scorched earth and every time I manage to get metal, I lose it. The metal nodes are miles away from my base (over 2,000m) and I’ve put a hut and bed nearby the metal but they keep getting destroyed

Hi not sure if it`s out there im just a newbie. Been looking for a complete dino guide what they all do, like a quick overview of the dino abilitys to help gather wood / stone, poo-fertilizer ect...

That'd be a cool vid, if a long one! Some small tips in the meantime: omnivores can usually gather both berries and meat; ankys are good for berries via alt-attack + metal/obsidian/crystal with regular attacks but ALSO can hit trees for a lot of thatch (a lot of ppl don't know); Baryonyx harvests with the same attack that kills your prey so it's great for fish + chitin caves; you can use a scythe on sabertooth salmon for Prime Fish :)
don`t need like a complete guide on all dino`s doing same stuff. Just for dinos with unique and diff ability`s would do so for new players would know more about the worth of taming the different kinds.

Hi @Teach I got a question about imprint baby's because on ASE the imprint was not passed to babies when you get them to the parents they fix that on ASA??? Because if they don't fix it doesn't make sense to imprint babies if you gone use them for mutations later. You are going to loese track of the real stats
You should keep note of stats while mutating and imprint is meant to be specific to the baby u imprint would be too easy otherwise plus that would mean every baby from that line wpuld then be imprinted to one person making that line only useful fpr one person and there is a point in imprinting just do it on the dino ur going to be using until u get something better

The water demonstration is very misleading for a new player and if you try to harvest as much as shown for a period anywhere near the same, your avatar will drown and your dinosaur pet will die. The issues are: not enough weight limit, not enough stamina, not enough oxygen, and lack of higher rated metal tools, like the pickaxe, or high level dinosaur. Having few, if any investments in stamina means your avatar, or pet will quickly become exhausted and cannot even swim to shore, or to the water's surface. Same is true of weight overloading. Your avatar will be like a huge anchor, but you might be able to drop some weight fast enough, if you know how. To say this game has a huge learning curve would be a massive understatement. Only the determined and tolerant of game problems and limitations that need fixing will stubbornly stay with the game. For the game problems that need fixing, some have workarounds to learn and often there is more than one workaround that will work for the same problem.

Do you know why it’s not letting me maneuver my raft? I’ve had to build 2 rafts after the first one mysteriously disappeared, I get on my raft and it doesn’t give me an option to drive it. It’s frustrating at this point

Big mistake here, better to get the parent for taming efficiency +50% levels rather than the lower level baby if you want to keep the dino long term.
The imp bonus is nice but the levels suck for it to be a parent dino.

Every time you streamers call something broken or overpowered the devs take it out or change it. It's every game you guys are ruining. Please stop.
Algorithm
No tips can help a broken game. Why? Because getting stuck inside your creatures when dismounting in a rush, ends your creatures life and yours at that moment most of the time. Also, while in a fight, a smaller or same size dino locks you into place due to bad collision programming, which again causes you to lose the fight because you have basically no way out. Lastly, while taming, or doing something important, the game crashes. That, in the wrong spot, is terrible. But, I still love Ark. Played for 8 years now, just which they will spend time on the above issues. O, and the Ai of the creatures. My God, if your dino is on passive, give us options to choose for example when 10% or a certain percentage of health is drained that it starts attacking. Gamers keeps on killing our tames, especially on passive. So, Ai needs to be worked on. There must be a way how we can have dinos with more intelligence than standing around while getting killed. Give us options, much more options, that we can work on the Ai ourselves
