- York Regional Police say a six-year-old boy was struck and killed by a school bus picking up children for school in Kleinburg, Ont., on Wednesday morning. Const. James Dickson told reporters the child died at the scene and that the incident happened at around 8 a.m. in a residential area.
Dickson said the school bus was in the area picking kids up for school, but it is unknown how many children were on the bus at the time. The school bus driver remained at the scene and is co-operating with investigators, Dickson said.
"This is very, very sad," one neighbour who lives in the area but did not witness the incident told Global News. "As a mother, I’ve been living here for the past five years and this has never happened before. This is heartbreaking for me."
It is unclear how the child was struck by the bus. Images from the scene show forensics investigators examining the school bus.
Global's Jaden Lee-Lincoln reports on the scene.

This is something the bus driver will never get over. Same with the parents. It happened to someone I met in N.C. Her daughter was killed the same way. So tragic. May God help them.
Rest in peace, young man.
Increase pedestrian lanes or add specific drop off locations for children.
Pedestrian lanes? Like sidewalks seen in this video?
And drop off locations could change yearly based on where children live, what school they go too, school population etc etc etc.
Ppl need to stop being dangerous drivers, nothing wrong with the roads!
@@XetaXonesWonder if they were under the influence... Especially with the legalization of pot
So we have rear view cameras and sensors for when the car notices its too close to something. But our School buses do not have this? When will school buses be updated with the proper sensors and cameras to check for children that are constantly picked up and dropped off. This is heartbreaking.
No kidding, our school busses are still stuck in the 1990s technology wise
do you think sensors will help when someone dash in front of a moving bus?
The child chased the bus, according to the eyewitness, interviewed here in video.
@@marciloni12 he did not chase after the bus!
That’s reasonable, but cameras and sensors don’t compensate for absent minded drivers whether it’s bus drivers or folks in their personal vehicles. Concentration and diligence is needed just as much as tech
So sad to hear, hope more precautions to be taken. So sad
Going to be a tough summer for the family. RIP, lad.
Typical liberal way of thinking. Feeling bad for random immigrants ..
RIP to the young man and his family. Please don’t rush to judgement on this bus driver. Her live is ruined and we need all the facts before we can comment.
Right on ! It could be the childs fault. I know it happened to someone I met in NC. The little girl walked in front of the bus and the driver could not see her.
@@MrsLovely-gp7im No its was not a horrible comment considering none of the FACTS were in yet. Nor have you stated any facts here.
@@MrsLovely-gp7im No it wasot a horrible comment and I did not pretend to have rhe facts.
@@MrsLovely-gp7im You still have presented NO facts, Mrs. Lovely.
Not saying that this incident was caused by the driver, but there are bad/careless School bus drivers out there. My kids school has a driver who bolts out after dropping off kids, not fully stopping at the Stop sign line....rolling forward, to make his turn (it's a busy street with many cars). If a kid happens to be walking across, it's possible that the driver could not see them. I always give the bus the right of way and wait for them to turn, unless I know for sure that they see me, before I will cross with my kids.
There's plenty of bad drivers all over ! Including speeders & drunks !
True, a School van dropping children off at our townhouses, ran a stop sign and aggressively drove around me and my little senior dog. I was already crossing, thinking she would stop.😮
my roomate is a foreign international student and i dont know how he got a job being a bus driver for a local school…. he doesnt even have a canadian drivers license. just an indian one…….
A school bus hits a little boy…..there’s a need for a serious investigation into driver safety and look at implementing better quality control of who they hire and proper training of drivers.
Or maybe we could wait a few hours and have the actual FACTS.
There are 3-4 cameras + GPS (speed) tracking on that bus.
Buses speed ,coast thru stop signs and make poor judgement like a lot of people
@@donlebeznick2174 where's your evidence.
I agree, and tougher laws against vehicular homicide. Like jail ffs 🤦🏾♀️
@@XetaXones "vehicular homicide"
implies intent.
Negligent manslaughter ranges from "near accident" to "near murder" and carries 4-15yrs of incarceration in Ontario.
Let's not convict the driver based on a 1 minute news clip, assumptions and emotions. Let's let police do their job.

RIP this is VERY SAD for the family. I visit Kleinberg often. It is very peaceful city.
There should be zones assigned exclusively to pick up/drop off along with very stringent training for drivers, good checks of their background and empathy towards others.

1:39-- how is speed an issue in this incident? Based on the fact that the bus driver remained on scene and the bus is roped off by police tape and no other car is there it looks like the bus didn't see the kid and ran him over.
also its a school bus driver that killed the kid, its not even a random car.
they are trying to portrait the driver was speeding so the family can sue them. the fact is the kid ran across the street so fast that the driver didnt see him.

funny how everyone just blames the driver and make up false claims when there is not enough information in the video to say who's at fault. there is a new video that just came out and it says the kid ran across the street so fast that the driver didnt see him coming.

Put speed bumps geez
The MTO continues with reduced/modified road test standards well past the COVID backlog. The priority clearly being tax revenue over road safety. It is hard to get a job in Canada unless you have a driver's license. Newcomers will often deceive Drivetest staff regarding driving experience for reciprocity allowing them to quickly obtain an Ontario License. Too many road users at present are simply not safe because of these new lower standards.

Actually these bus companies are too cheap. They hire retired elderly persons who sometimes are at the end phase of their life and I doubt about the safe driving ability of those drivers.

stupid take. Ban busses? lmfao
Yes, let’s ban the safest way for kids to get the school, the school bus. Statistically kids are 70 times more likely to get to school safely riding the school bus than walking, biking or being driven by their own parents or others.
what they should ban is kids running across the street. specifically kids running in front of a moving bus

The bus driver or bus company should be sued for such a traumatic experience. How is anyone supposed to trust the school bus now.
Yes, let’s sue without knowing the whole verdict of how it happened, great idea. How can you trust school buses now, well because regardless of this tragedy or other tragedies in the past, the school bus is still the safest way for kids at the school with them being 70 times more likely to get to school safely riding the bus. then any other way of getting to school.
