What I get from this song is: when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade…but what about when you just seem to be unable to anymore? Ergo, translation: when it gets hard, try to make the best of it. But what if you can’t anymore? When the lemonade spilt into your pillowcase are your tears? When you’ve been told you had a talent for making the best out of a rough situation and then you can’t anymore? When your efforts to trying to do what you used to be capable of falls into the floor? That is my take of it. You used to be able to do something, but something happened and you can’t do it anymore no matter how hard you try. One thing I found fascinating is the detail of the first chorus of “over (over and over). The first over is just the singer’s voice. The (over and over) is robotic-echo-like. It’s as if they are at the forefront of their control or more present. But the second chorus, it switches. The first over is robotic-echo-like and the (over and over) is the regular voice. As if they’re losing it or less present. Eventually their voices smoosh together.
Another part is that some of the song is sung to someone else. Who was there but is now gone, and now there is so much lemonade left to be drank. My interpretation is much like yours, where the sorrow of life keeps piling up to an unbearable degree, but it differs because I think it can be lessened by someone who cares for you, who helps drink the lemonade. (If lemonade is a way of making something good out of something bad, someone to enjoy it with you helps you forget the sour part and focus only on the sweet part). For me, this song has been my rock for the past couple of months and I go back and listen to when I feel sorrowful and full of anxiety. The repetition of 'over' eased my anxiety and when I engage in the lyrics it reminds me of investments I've made in family and lovers that I ultimately get hurt and no matter how I heal there is still all this worth and energy that I've put into manipulative relationships that have finally used me. The 'you' is social construct of expectations and idealization I have projected into a person to be the person who will respect and love me when in reality I was played the fool out of.

I was thinking about the saying, "when life gives you lemons make lemonade." So, what if this is about happiness? This happiness or lemonade is something whoever they are talking to will never achieve.....but with him/her returning to their life, their lemonade (happiness), spills all over....

To make a good lemonade, you need some Melodical oranges (preferred Canadian or Asian) blend them into a mush of symphony. add some Milinicium ( Milinnium Lithium) to get the echoes of hope added to your beverage! add some sparkles of fate and beauty. But what I haven't seen discussed is : what if the lemonade is tears? What if it is tears that "stain her pillowcase" bc she cried herself to sleep. What if it's tears she "wipes off" and "licks up" . And she just thinks about that person that liked her lemonade and her mind just replaces the idea of her tearing up with spilling her loved one's favorite drink?
I interpret this song as an AI that was programmed to make lemonade for someone every day. One day this person isn't coming anymore due to death, for example. And the AI slowly is realizing that no one will come to drink it anymore. I love its simple way of making me think about the future.
Okay, she lost a lover and the lyrics express her sadness and tears after what happened but I feel like I'm missing something.
I think the lemonade is a metaphor for her love.
Her love is a little bitter, a little sweet, a little sour.
The lemonade she makes is her love, but there is no longer anyone to drink it.
The pain of the love she can no longer give (left over lemonade), overflows into tears, and she cries her lemonade(love) into the pillow. (Staining her pillowcase)
Everytime I feel horrible I always listen to this song cry about like 10 minutes and continue with my life... The sad part is that have been doing this for over a month. And for one god damn reason the song still sound as beautiful as the first time I listened
