Protecting your Tesla Model Y is a critical step in making the car look as good as possible for as long as possible. Tesla is not known for delivering cars with excellent paint finish, so it increases the need for adding as much protection as you can.
Ceramic coats are expensive to have professionally done. There is a lot of labor involved, and many shops charge you that "Tesla Tax" for getting your Tesla ceramic coated. That said, there are DIY options available at a significantly better price.
Installation is straight forward and easy enough to do. The most critical step is the initial clean. Getting all the contaminants out of the paint is vital to the successful installation of a sealant like a ceramic coat.
Be sure to make sure your car does not need to be clay barred before installing the ceramic coat. If you do need to clay bar the car, I used the Mothers California Gold Clay Bar Kit. This kit comes with everything you need. Alternatively, you can go with the Mothers Speed Clay kit for a simpler process.
This DIY kit makes installing a ceramic coat on your Tesla simple and comes with everything you need. Most DIY kits just come with the chemicals, and most only come with a base coat. This kit comes with it all, the base coat, top coat, and the quick spray sealant for maintenance over time.

I did this today! My 2 week old MYLR looks amazing! Thanks you saved me $1,800. This is so easy to do especially with the newer 1 stage kit. The video shows the older 2 stage kit (base+top coat). Now is just 1 application.
    My steps:
Got XPEL full front PPF and tinting installed professionally 3 days ago ($2,500)
    Analyzed the instructions several times.
    Decontamination wash
    Sprayed Iron Remover
Clay bar using iron remover as lubricant
    Decontamination wash
    Moved the car into garage:
Used the Squeaky Clean product that comes in the box
Used Ceramic (1 towel for removal and 1 towel for finishing)
Moved the car outside to see any missed spots found a few sun light helps to spot them. After a few hours I was done put the car back in the garage to cure.

It was totally worth it for me to take it in and have the paint handled, buffed, corrected etc. I mean the car needs to be pristine before applying the coat. And the Tesla paint job was a mess. For me, it was worth it to have professionals handle it. All that said, if you have the time and a garage, you can no doubt do it yourself.

always recommend the paint is POLISHED before ceramic coating! I dont care if the car is brand new from the factory since the car has to be transported and moved across the country or county. Polishing removes the top layer of clear and coat and removes paint imperfections such as swirls, marring, oxidations, etc.
I have applied ceramic coatings and when customers ask to get ceramic coating applied with polishing, the coating usually fails after 6 months and is a waste of 100s of dollars and then they come back to me to have it reapplied by polishing and then ceramic coating
Also the 3-5 year claim is with proper maintence. pH neutral soap, constant toppers, no automatic car washes, hand wash only, no neglected cars. Ceramic coatings are for those who want to properly maintain their car themselves and make their live easier.

Excellent info and encouragement! 2 questions:
    1. Did your new M-Y arrive with perfect paint, or did you have to get paint work done after receipt, and so you could then do the ppf?
    2. Do the TESLA logos on front and back use only an adhesive double sticky tape... i.e. so I could remove them and have no holes beneath them??? This way i could install new matt black ones on top of the ppf... if at all. :-)
    Cheers,

Hey can I ask: looks like you did not use the ceramic coating on the windows. Can you do that? Do you need a different product? which one do you recommend? I had a nanocoating on my new windscreen on my Mercedes by CarGlass (stone chip replacement) but that lasted maybe a few weeks not more. so was really not worth the money. So I guess windows are difficult esp the windscreen because you swipe all the time.
I plan to get a PPF done professionally when I buy the M3LR right away next year at a specialist here (expensive BUT worth it I think) so there should not be an issue with scratches etc. And then do the CC myself because my father (RIP) as a car mechanic would turn in his grave if I could not do the equivalent of the old-fashioned car waxxing we always did together (and THAT was hard work, and often on a hot summer, took hours) :-)

Thanks much, @@BeardedTeslaGuy. I applied the base coat this morning. It is already looking great and is so smooth when you feel it after.
A couple of observations/lessons learned. I hope this helps others planning to put on a ceramic coat.
After washing the car and wiping it off, a small lint stuck and I applied the ceramic coat on top of it. It got stuck in there. Just keeping a close eye while applying the ceramic coat helps avoid these situations. Not a biggie but thought of sharing so it might help others.
After applying all the areas around, when I opened the door, I realized I had totally forgotten about the inside areas. Those areas can get dirty too with rain water or after washing the car. Make sure those areas are covered as well.
While applying the coat, I couldn't avoid touching some areas of the plastic by mistake. Those were showing up afterwards very clearly. So, I applied the coat to the plastic too.
Thanks for sharing the tips and walking us through in a very detailed fashion, @Bearded Tesla Guy. This video made my life easier and was able to finish in no time. Thanks again!
