You actually can survive the ambush without attacking anything, provided you have 50 Speech. Basically, all you have to do is go up to the suite without Benny, wait a few seconds, then interact with the intercom next to the elevator. Benny will tell you about the ambush, and you can pass a Speech check to have him call it off, allowing you to take the elevator back down.
Its okay you don't need to be ashamed for knowing sign language, unless of course you were just happen no one was home for another reason because the only way they would know you did that without saying it audibly would be if you physically pounded it out in morse code.

When I heard of his passing, it really got me upset and watching his videos didn't feel the same knowing he's gone but now I'm beginning to binge he's fallout challenges and even marathons FO3, NV and 4 in his honour 🎖 may he rest in peace 🙏
