I've had two C96, the first in .30 Mauser and the second in 9mm Luger. Due to the dificulties of getting ammo I used the first very little, but the 9mm I used a lot. Wonderful gun! Regards
@@escott3829 I had a similar issue in my red 9 where sometimes the gun would eject an unfired round as well as the case of the just fired round. The reason for any feed problems in 9mm is that the c96 doesn't really have a feed ramp, the bullets are right in line with the barrel, and the 9mm guns used the same frame as the 30 cal guns, which means the 9mm rounds which are about 1/3rd shorter overall length than the 30 Mauser rounds are sitting in a magazine made for 30 Mauser. I would assume your problem is caused by your mag spring getting worn down, it's not holding the rounds under enough pressure and they are sliding foward due to the extra space.

There are some sold in Gun Broker in the US with very high price. I encountered one in the same condition in 1993 that belonged to the ex chief of police that has been taken from the hand of death old man who committed divide due to his illness in the late 1950. The asking price was $650.00.There was no stock. The second one under the same condition that I found in 2015 at the gun club in Milford, Connecticut for $2,500.00. Again without shoulder stock.
Awesome video! Really excellent production. This gun is also the foundation of Han Solo's blaster in Star Wars. When I was a kid I used to read the Spirit comics and he had this gun also. Its amazing seeing the milling work from over a hundred years ago and how its just as fine as anything we make today with CNC machines.
As the owner of a C96 made in 1905 (and in the original 7.63 mm Mauser), a couple of comments: (1) the manufacturing quality is very, very good. (2) the ergonometrics when shooting with the shoulder stock attached are extremely poor, in terms of the hammer repeatedly "whacking" the web of your hand/thumb if you use a "normal" grip as shown here (i.e., wrapped around the stock). From the video, the problem may be more manageable with the "Red 9s," as the 9mm Parabellum is a bit less powerful than the original 7.63 mm Mauser (which reportedly was the most powerful "standard" pistol cartridge until the .357 Magnum was introduced). But with the 7.63 mm, it's a handful! (3) Any version of the C96 has a LOT of "little parts." I did not have any problem disassembling/reassembling . . . on my nice, dry, clean WORKBENCH. But doing the same in a muddy, wet World War I trench would be a NIGHTMARE. ON a related point: I love your videos - particularly those which show you hunting with "antique" firearms -- and shooting better than I ever could with something more "modern"!
Robert R Its not a nazi gun. It was designed in 1895 and the nazi party was founded in the 1920's. Plus the nazis mainly used the Luger and p38 because the c96 was outdated and expensive. You really need to learn your history.

Wow! That Red 9 is in excellent shape and the finish on the gun and the stock is very, very nice. Most of the ones that were exported from China are in not very good shape - they have to be refinished and need new parts and springs and sometimes the barrel needs to be relined.

Vet told me as they were going into Berlin an old man was in a bombed out building and shot 4 soldiers with it killing 3 of them before he killed him with his thompson. I always figured it was an old WWI vet with his pistol
Excellently presented video but I am very mystified why you did the disassembly over those logs and grass. I realize it's aesthetically very pleasing but we all know what happens if some small piece falls between the firewood. But thanks for a very well presented, informative piece.
LOL, me too. Clumsy me, when I take things with itty bitty parts apart, I do it over a table with a towel or sheet so when I inevitably drop something I can hopefully find it again. I also get some small glass bowls out to separate and put the little parts in. The worst are eye glasses parts. The worlds tiniest screws. You have to use tweezers to put them back into the threads and use jewelers screw drivers. And why do the still make slot head screws for anything?
Nice concise presentation, very interesting and professional. The stock and stripping tool/ammo pouch accessory is really something else, what a package. Gotta love a piece of history like that! Cheers mate.
+Alejandro Medina Nope, actually it´s about 8 grands just for the "naked" pistol. A complete C96 in a good condition (equal numbers, good barrel, spotless blueing, etc.) withg the complete utility set and the stock can cost even more than 14.000€ because they´re almost unobtainable. I presume that a "Red Nine" in the same condition could cost even more because they´re much rarer. You can get a crappy C96 for about 500 or 1000 bucks but the good shit makes one poor.
+Alejandro Medina The stock and tool kit he is using is a reproduction kit made in China. Not bad, about 95% accurate repro. They can be had for about $150 (USD) on ebay.
Very nice video! Please don't use a screwdriver to push the magazine plate button! You will scratch it needlessly. Use the tip of cartridge, as instructed by the manufacturer
The Chinese are fixated on forever fighting with the Japanese and their primary weapon of choice is this gun. Of course none of them are real, they are sometimes made of cast aluminum and painted, but usually they are carved from some type of wood. In their movies, they are unbelievably accurate, capable of shooting all Japanese soldiers between the eyes at 100 yards. All their rifles are some type of Mauser trainers with a solid barrel, again carved from wood and painted, but extremely accurate. It`s really quite comical! I always thought that these were the most beautiful of all handguns. You are very fortunate to have been able to use one.
+Legan Arabach There were lots produced, it will be some time before they end up like that. You can usually find stuff of this age that was produced in far smaller quantities pretty easily, finding one of these shouldn't be difficult.
Awesome video, I truly am in love with this gun! Here's an odd question: you can shoot the Tokarev cartridge in the 7.63 Mauser, but since it is a stronger cartridge, it will put more stress on the bolt, which is a logical conclusion. But wouldn't a stronger recoil spring adress this problem? Or is it the pressure on the chamber that you should be worried about?
Beautiful job with the milling on the side of the frame there, you don't see that very often. Oh, and only about 34 parts, that's a good improvement in complexity over the predecessor and even most modern pistols.
Outstanding video! Is it legal in the EU to own pistols more than 100 years old without special licenses permits? (It is in the USA - historical firearms or cap-n-ball replicas are sold without background checks).
ZanderDogz Any gun which was patented before 1900, but there are exceptions to this ruling, the Mauser is one of them, this requires a permit , as do all of them if you intend to shoot them, the permit exemption is to posses, not shoot.
snappydoodad In HUngary all muzzleloaders a free, but thecaps and powder are licensed. All rimfire and centr fire guns are licensed no matter how old they are.
Excelent video! Back when I didn't have a stripper clip, I had a lot of trouble charging the gun, holding back the Bolt while trying tô shove the cartridges in. But I recently found out that you can Lock the Bolt in place and charge the gun more easily. All you have to do is pull back the bolt a little further and rotate the safety Lever to about 30°. The bolt Will then lock in place.
+Stephen Keeler Yes, the old round was near as dammit identical to the 7.62x25 that the Tokarev TT-33 uses. It was only surpassed in muzzle velocity by the .357 Magnum in 1937
A well made, very well-crafted complete and most enjoyable video. I had the priviledge to have owned one of these many years ago. The machining, and designed with NO internal pins or screws- was clever; the top quality worksmanship mmade it functional. (but don't take anything into small parts- over loose logs on grass; taking the carb apart over grass, on my first G80CS Matchless taught me that lesson- never again!)
I'm going to be honest. I don't know much about firearms whatsoever. (GASP, an American who doesn't know every gun ever??) haha, but there's always been something about this gun design and how it looks like it would fit in the hand that I've always sort of 'liked'. It's difficult to describe. The shape of the gripe, maybe. The narrow barrel. I just like it. I don't think I'd mind buying one in the future. I mean, I guess a gun that looks that nice probably costs a lot of money and yes a gun license is a no brainer but still, it's a very aesthetically pleasing gun. :)
Patrick Briotte I swear, one day, I will dress up as Han Solo if I ever mock up one of these pistols to look like his blaster when I go to the range. I've already done it as a stormtrooper with a Sterling SMG. XD
You sir, get a thumbs up from me, purely because of that Dark Tower profile pic. Roland Deschain, The Last Gunslinger. Stephen King. Kudos. You're alright in my book :) /)*(\
Man, the Germans really know how to make a handgun fancy and durable at the same time, also I like how they burned in the red 9 on to the handle like a wax stamp onto parchment
Excellent video. My question is, where did you find a museum quality piece like that? I do have another question. I have friends that live in Eastern Europe and they tell me that the gun laws are horrid in Yugoslavia. How do you get around them? I have heard that black powder is ok but semi auto anything is practically banned in your country. Was I miss informed? Please keep these nice quality videos coming. I have learned a lot from them.
Amazing feat of machining. Amazing how they were able to start with nothing and design a pistol, where as today everything is based off of the same couple designs.
Bertisevil666 I Honestly like the Colt 1911 handgun. I own a commander and is the best semi auto pistol I have ever owned. Showing of their 1911 clones made by other companies is annoying. Why show off a clone when a original is a lot better?
Heavy, clumsy, over engineered, bulky, awckward reloading, salf finish prone to rust and woods prone to warping, a nightmare to disassemble and reassemble with an embarassing safety lever and...? Oh, yes... Romantic, classy, elegant and extremely beautiful. I LOVE IT!!!
Great video, I only knew it was the gun that Han Solo's DL-44 was based off of. And I've see the actual one in a few films, but never knew anything about it. I had no idea that it had a holster which doubled as a stock, it's all so well crafted, it's art.
Excellent production and presentation!! What a beautiful example of a classic pistol. Thanks. p.s. Winston Churchill carried a Mauser machine pistol as a cavalry officer during the Boer War. He purchased the pistol with his own money because his shoulder was weak and he was not confident in relying on his sabre during combat.
It wasn't a machine pistol it was an 1896 Mauser. He did carry it in the Boer war but actually used it in the battle of Omdurman whilst charging the Dervish army lines. He says that he's sure of at least one kill and another probable.
Churchill was involved in the boer war, where the UK empire was killing white South Africans (basically Dutch, some French and Germans), then he proceeded to order the bombing of German civilians in WW2. The infamous night time raids Churchill was a piece of garbage responsible for millions of white people dead. If you admire him that shows a thing or two about who you are as a person, and how you feel about white people being killed

Mauser Best Gun Resident evil 4 Remake 👍
Resident Evil 4 anyone?
That and mgs 3
Far cry 4
+EpicShortBus And Red Dead Redemption
+EpicShortBus Star wars actually. This handgun was the base for Han Solo's DD Blaster
+Colin Malloy actually the blaster Is called dl 44
Excelent video! Back when I didn't have a stripper clip, I had a lot of trouble charging the gun, holding back the Bolt while trying tô shove the cartridges in. But I recently found out that you can Lock the Bolt in place and charge the gun more easily. All you have to do is pull back the bolt a little further and rotate the safety Lever to about 30°. The bolt Will then lock in place.
So the older round was more powerful than the 9mm round?
+Stephen Keeler Yes, the old round was near as dammit identical to the 7.62x25 that the Tokarev TT-33 uses. It was only surpassed in muzzle velocity by the .357 Magnum in 1937
A well made, very well-crafted complete and most enjoyable video. I had the priviledge to have owned one of these many years ago. The machining, and designed with NO internal pins or screws- was clever; the top quality worksmanship mmade it functional. (but don't take anything into small parts- over loose logs on grass; taking the carb apart over grass, on my first G80CS Matchless taught me that lesson- never again!)
resident evil 4
Capandball....excellent video!! You and Forgotten Weapons are my two favorite youtube channels.
Could Han Solo have helped?
Not gonna lie, he probably factors in somewhere.
Patrick Briotte I swear, one day, I will dress up as Han Solo if I ever mock up one of these pistols to look like his blaster when I go to the range. I've already done it as a stormtrooper with a Sterling SMG. XD
You don't need a firearms license for class 1 weapons in the us...
Black Powder Chanel is not made in Yugoslavia, but in Hungary, a much more civilised country.
I stand corrected.
horrid lol
Your worse my friend.
Too bad about the Yugoslavians. Forgive me. I am not an English Socialist snob.
Your English is as flawless as your pistol. Good job! Btw, what year of production is your Mauser?
Ahh... A choice of an avid gun collector. It's a nice gun stranger.
-Merchant, Resident Evil 4, talk about Red9.
This is one of the best looks at this gun I've seen. Nice work!
Idk why i came here, maybe couse RE4 Remake lmao
I enjoyed seeing this iconic weapon/design come to life with your explanation and range time.
Amazing feat of machining. Amazing how they were able to start with nothing and design a pistol, where as today everything is based off of the same couple designs.
Bertisevil666
Apparently a lot of people. There's a reason it's so popular.
Derek Moore yay someone noyiced that :D
Back in the day i had a Red 9 with its shoulder stock, i was a really good gun to shoot and everyone liked to have a go.

Some of the Mauser C96s have full auto
Churchill was involved in the boer war, where the UK empire was killing white South Africans (basically Dutch, some French and Germans), then he proceeded to order the bombing of German civilians in WW2. The infamous night time raids
Churchill was a piece of garbage responsible for millions of white people dead. If you admire him that shows a thing or two about who you are as a person, and how you feel about white people being killed
Thanks for the easy to follow disassembly. Wish my C96 looked half that nice.
il est magnifique
This a very good gun. It is based on simple and easy application of principals. This pistol has a nice balance.
Han Solos blaster or as close as your going to get
truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue
To remove the floor plate do not use screw driver, use the 9mm bullet tip to push down the lock pin
This was my favourite 9 mm weapon to use in Resident Evil 4!
Love this piece. Always have. The guy knows his stuff. His accent is a little off putting but still, in all, great stuff. Kudos!
