This is Part 2 of 3 of my chess tournament that I won in Toronto in April 2024. PART 3 OUT ON JUNE 5! BONUS videos and FULL GAME REVIEW on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/gothamchessofficial
This live recording of the game and the voice over captured my attention much more than when you're just sitting in front of a microphone and a camera at home talking about your games. I definitely like this format.
It’s kind of wholesome to see Gotham just chatting and vibing with his opponents. They may be his opponents on the board, but off the board chess players are all good friends!❤
I like this format. The commentary is great for learning, and seeing the "friendliness" over the board makes it much less intimidating. I'm still at the "try not to blunder pieces" level and thoroughly enjoying this.
jacking the man* looking at how much he was talking about how jacked, and how he could squish lilttle gotham like watermelon... If he didn't have a wife/fiancee that would be little weird...
I love this video format. Maybe in the lulls between moves where you're explaining your ideas you could draw the arrows of the lines you're considering
Hi Levy, in my opinion, this was one of your most creative videos ever, the voice over idea was very good and gave the video a documentary style that personally really liked it, Nice job 👍🏻
I like both the chill hangout and the commentary. I think you're on the right path, less talking just a slow paced commentary where you pop in to point out certain things no need to feel like you need to fill time
The winking at the camera and ‘I’ll bring in the ambient background noise’ These are the silly little things that add just the right amount of perfection to both you as a person and your content ❤
I’m not going to lie this video was really enjoyable to watch. The live game with the ambient background combined with a light voiceover makes everything so refreshing. Almost relaxing. Really nice stuff
Levi has finally unlocked that GM in him and now he’s just wiping people off the board. As a long time follower of his channel, I really love to see it❤
This is a really chill chess commentary content; which feels like a story, proper ambience, great mic quality, and thoughts on the moves. MORE OF THIS PLEASE.
really enjoyed the voiceover! feels natural and as always hearing your thought processes is awesome. would love to see it for all these otb tournaments you compete in.
My favorite chess content is OTB footage with postgame analysis in voice-over. I get to understand the key moments and takeaways of the game, know your mindset during those moments, and hear about how you interpreted your opponent's reactions, all while watching two people sit face-to-face playing over a board instead of looking at floating heads staring at computer screens. The latter isn't bad, but I like the added layers of the former. Would love to see more, thanks!
It’ll never happen unfortunately. He’s still pumping out content like usual. Should be focusing on studying and prep exclusively. But, more content I guess.
Yes, the voice over is really helpful and really gives an insight about your way of thinking, analysing, solving etc. i would say it's great and ask you to continue it! It just feels like another "HOW TO WIN AT CHESS" episode. Also please don't let that series die again.
The voiceover is a great idea and I hope you keep at it for future videos. I'm an old dude in the low 3-digit online ELO category but it's good fun watching and learning
I have to say I love the commentary. Combined with the background noises and conversation between you and your opponent, creates almost an ASMR effect. Great games! Good job!
Watching you narrate your own wins is the best of all possible Levy content. Seriously bro, rooting for you so hard to get that title. Keep competing, and keep airing it. You rock.
This is really random, but I appreciate that you shake your opponents' hands with a firm handshake. It seems in a lot of videos of OTB games that many chess players shake halfheartedly with a limp handshake. It's nice to see you respecting the gesture (and your opponent).
I have mixed feelings about the voice-over, but overall positive feelings. Something you could try: CoffeeChess does it so that the game occurs, and then afterwards they analyze any important moments that may have occurred during the game. Personally, I really like that approach. I should also say, I really enjoy these in person chess videos and you should definitely do more of them.
Definitely prefer the games with commentary like you did here. We all watch your channel for your charisma and storytelling. This format with the games being recorded over the board is interesting because we get a different perspective of the tension as each player calculates, and their body language and personalities as the games unfold.
i love the voice over, although i looked away and forgot you were doing a voiceover and totally thought you were talking during the game and i was like wtf
These kind of videos are so enjoyable to watch i hope we can get more of these kind of content and the voice over its a really really good idea good luck Levy all the best 🫶

Loved the voiceover, was really informative to hear your thought process from after the event.

Great content with the voice over! Congratulations on the wins and getting further in your GM quest! 🎉
The overdub commentary is really good--I'm enjoying this series!
10:15 thisis the first time I've seen a pawn play chess
underrated 😂
lmao, he gonna play chessboxing with you next
the voice over is insanely well done dude, if you get the chance dont hesitate to format videos covering otb games like this!
Homie got the keffiyeh on, what a g
Voice over is professional and well done. Great change of pace content. Love it.
Levy never fails to chat up big men
Levy, watching the actual game with voice-over commentary from a player is peak chess content. I will watch these every time.
More exclamation marks then the amount of elo points i have 💀
That doesnt say much
ㅤ
this doesn't say much
respect for passing double digits elo. Please teach us your ways
Most chess players doesn’t have an ELO rating
Since you asked for it: I actually really like this style of video. feels like a documentary. Honestly, you should do this again for the next part
Can't wait for levy to be GM
Coulndnt agree more
ye he deserves it tbh
It’ll never happen unfortunately. He’s still pumping out content like usual. Should be focusing on studying and prep exclusively. But, more content I guess.
@@starmorpheus he's literally making videos of himself playing in tournaments
@@starmorpheus I don’t think he’ll ever make GM, but I’d be happy to be proven wrong.
Voiceover helps so much with developing ideas on the board. Thank you for this
I love the voiceover! I like hearing your explanations rather than the chit-chat :)

For future reference, the title was “I put a kid at gunpoint and made them become a GM!”
I do that all the time! Except I don't become a GM....
Good on Levy for adding the voice over. It made it much more entertaining and accessible for me to watch the entire way through.
GothamChess never fails to milk Levy...
The voiceover commentary is honestly amazing. Feels much rawer than the usual videos.
“I respectively disagree because I’m better than Stockfisch.” -Gothemchess
The voiceover is a great idea and I hope you keep at it for future videos. I'm an old dude in the low 3-digit online ELO category but it's good fun watching and learning
I was under the impression that conversations weren't allowed during over the board tournaments. Evidently, I was wrong.
this seems to have a much more laid-back atmosphere which makes sense given the venue
Depends on the tournament. Typically yes, but as Alphabeta said, much more laid back atmosphere
Generally TRUE but as sovietslav says this one was laidback
You're mostly right, but this one seems to have a more laid back atmosphere, as I stated.
In most cases that happens, but as iskywalking states, this tournament seems to have a more laid back atmosphere.
As a consistent lurker, this in person voice over content is 10/10 for me, thanks Levy
Mr Batman city, congrats.
The voiceover is good, fun to hear playing around with the time constraints. Gives the moves more conversational context. 👍
Levy is the type of guy to somehow break his arm while running
Shoutout to the guy in the back wearing the keffiyeh real one
Babe wake up Levy dropped
I love the voiceover, it's great to see your live reactions but still get the commentary, great video
Voice over with the elevated background chatter during non voice over moment was nice!
I have to say I love the commentary. Combined with the background noises and conversation between you and your opponent, creates almost an ASMR effect. Great games! Good job!
Voiceover was GREAT!
Loved hearing it over the board instead of walkthrough on screen.
Seeing Levy succeed genuinely made me smile. Keep it up brotha
Love the camera set up and voice over! Deff want to see more of these
Commentating over your own game with ambient noise was so chill, very cool video levy!

NGL i liked the voiceovers more than just the no commentary games.
CONGRATULATIONS! ON 5 MILLION SUBS LEVY!!!! We love you!
I love the commentary over the live footage! I'll check out the analysis later. Nice video!
I actually like the voice over. Keep up the good work Levy you really are an amazing chess player and content creator! No im not a bot lol
Great to see you taking feedback from comments and trying to find a balance between commentary and live conversation. Keep it up
I really enjoyed the first video of this series, but the added commentary over this game really elevated this video for me. Really loved this one!
The voiceover was a nice touch that elevates the video.
Love that guy with keffiyeh sitting just next to you during the first game. It's wonderful and powerfully political clothing nowadays.
This is really random, but I appreciate that you shake your opponents' hands with a firm handshake. It seems in a lot of videos of OTB games that many chess players shake halfheartedly with a limp handshake. It's nice to see you respecting the gesture (and your opponent).
Thanks for adding your voice over commentary! I could do with a lower volume for the background murmur, but this is much better than part 1!
The ambient noise from the bar really added a nice bit of character to the video, cool change of format!
I really like the voice-over, it makes it so much more dynamic and overall better!
this is like a full fledged cinematic experience

Love the commentary style video. On a side note, Levy is on the verge of hitting 5M subscribers!
Loving the voice over. Great work on the video, and great work on the board!

These kind of videos are so enjoyable to watch i hope we can get more of these kind of content and the voice over its a really really good idea good luck Levy all the best 🫶
Ok the voice over made me finish the video which I left midway the last one
The voice over was really helpfull

The voiceover with the ambient background is nice. It reminds me of watching poker tournaments.
