I found the same with mine. After removing the shaft from the long end of the roller. Circlip was found rattling around inside the roller.
Replaced with new Circlip..... Jobs a goodun!

Hi guys - have repaired roller but there is lateral movement in roller( side to side ) - bearings are ok so could it be circlip in long end of roller that is worn ?

Hi Tom. It's difficult for me say without taking it apart myself. If you can take it apart It's a good exercise and remove any dirt inside.

If you have a gap in the roller, sometimes stones can get in and stop the roller. Or the gearbox is broken. Have you dragged it over any gravel recently?
