I have owned a large munster now for 3 years. Previously I owned 2 working spaniels and before that a black lab/German Shepard cross. I have nothing but praise for this breed of dog. They are loyal and extremely well tempered, (i.e. great with kids, adults, dogs alike and even the dreaded vets) and are absolutely family orientated and love attention and petting. As an outdoors person. This is possibly the most suited dog I have owned to hill walking and exploration and extended periods of wild camping. He is adventurous, capable and well adapted to cold and wet environments. Indoors, his nature, is placid and almost comes across as boring at times but outdoors is where this breed truely comes into its own. He does tend to range MUCH further than any other breed I have owned, which is expected of the large munster and can be disconcerting to new Munster owners and his recall is not the best, however, he was an older rescue when we got him. Which could attribute to his lack of recall. He is extremely loyal by nature (not necessarily training) and fortunately he always returns. Unfortunately it is when he sees fit. In my experience this breed can be somewhat vocal, highly independent/stubborn and very instinctual ( although, this could be attributed to him being an older rescue from a working farm) This is most definatley a breed that needs plenty of both physical/mental stimulation (at least 1.5hours or 2 large walks a day) and a moderate level of weekly grooming. Small apartment/working family owners may not be suitable for this breed (very similar to German pointers i.e. very active) but people who can give the large Munster the time, perseverance and are understanding to the breeds inbuilt instincts will be blessed with one of the most family friendly, loyal, adventurous and well tempered dogs I have ever had the pleasure of living with. Again I am not in any way a dog trainer or specialist. These are just my experiences with this breeds of dog and any future, "RESPONSIBLE", dog owners should do their own research into different breeds and which is most suited to them and their situation P.s. this breed does love to chase!
i had done so much research on dogs good for me, and i mean 10-20hours it took way too long to find this dog. This dog is so good looking, patient and active, i love it!
I’ve got a small Münsterländer and she is the best dog I’ve ever owned. She’s my working gun dog and I couldn’t ask for a better, more affectionate dog. Great with kids, other animals, super smart and very gentle.
As young company of boys back in 90s we had a dog like this that we took care and raised. It was in an abandon park and her brother puppies died it was the last so we rescue her. It was one of the most intelligent clever and survival instinct dogs i have seen ever. It was also leaving on the streets after she grow up eventually but every time following our company. Extreme focus and speed and early identification of threat and a self confidence. So when i am ready i want to raise one again.
Beautiful description of two different but related breeds of dogs. You have a wealth of knowledge about dogs I have never heard of before. Great video.
i had a small one for 16 years...( he became 16 years and ten days old) amazing dog! so cute, so patient, but always ready for action. brilliant with children, never been aggressive against any men. i still miss him...😢
My parents just got a new dog. He's tiny and a mutt. They just found out his main breed is munster and chihuahua. He's still a puppy so high energy. Very interesting mix. He runs through their yard as if it's an obstacle course. So much fun to play with.
In the UK I feel like our various Spaniel breeds are the ones most people choose, and that's fine because they're wonderful too, but that meant I hadn't even heard of these breeds. What beauties!
Thanks once more for the info about diferent dog breeds!! Can you do same videos comparison between diferent but similar dog breeds? Im a mastiff lover so if you could pick same mastiff comparatives it would be super...:)
Sure, i have some comparsion videos on this channel already, but i am planning to make more of them in future. I have one older comparsion between the Cane Corso and Presa Canario you might like: ruclips.net/video/2Hz3lq8MXRk/видео.html
Awesome video they are so cute! You should do a video about all dog breeds you agree that are for novice owners and your top apartment dog! I really like how to explain all these dog breeds. What do you think about Keeshond or American Eskimo? Do you think they are good for novice owners?
I would say that both, Keeshond and American Eskimo are a good choice for novices and they are also adaptable and can live in apartments. They both do have higher energy level, so they will need daily proper exercise. And yes, i can make a video about apartment dogs and dogs for novices :)
For years, my husband has been saying that he wants a Kleine Münsterländer, because his boss has two of them. I keep telling him to fence in our property; then we'll talk!
So I thought my dog was a brittany for 2 years and now I found out he is a mix of Munster with Britanny. He looks and acts just like a Munster but his tail is docked. Took me soooo long to get it but I finally know more about my buddy! Edit: and the hair is shorter :) Love him to death!
Thanks for your film , we think we have a small Munster Lander but not totally certain , we have had him since a puppy and was sold to us as a spaniel, his character is a lot like you say in film Thankyou

The big Münsterländer is a VERY popular hunting dog in Germany :) (and Weimaraner as well)
Thats great, they are not very well known in Czech republic.

I remember that you already mentioned the Munserlander in some of your comments earlier :) They are great dogs

What beautiful dogs! How do they compare to the Brittany Spaniel? It seems there are many similarities,
There seems some patrijshond and stabij in them

@@Rocadog do you have one ?
@@gavinstreetie1473 No, i have some mixed breed from shelter. Probably some spitz breed mix. I create videos about different breeds on this channel.
@@Rocadog it was a great film thanks and very helpful
I love you münszterlander

I WISHD ID HAD DOG LIKE THAT
I've worked with at least 12 different pointing dog breeds and the Small Munsterlander has to be the lowest on my scale of pointing dogs.
why? My father's one is best in the group which they hunt. They have a weimaner in a group and shorthaired pointer. Father's finds most of the prey.
I have a Munsterlander in the Western United States, is that a rarity? (probably is)
I've had Small Munsterlanders in Idaho since 2000, great dogs!
I WISHD ID HAD BOTH
💞💞💞
A Small Munsterlander is braun (and white) and a Large Munsterlander is black (and white).
Do they like cats?
Mine doesnt at all
Depends... The one of my uncle sleeps together with their cat and ours absolutely hates cats.
