He tried to stand up, then he was pushed down, then he was too much in panic and shock than he did not react properly, his brain stuck with the "STAND UP" command. He was completely relaxed before and had no counter attacks in mind. It just happened to quickly and surprising for him. Like people in the middle of a street who see a car coming but the brain just fails to give the right command and they get hit. It happens.

Your comment is so wholesome 😂
But in all seriousness, alot of David Cronenberg films feature unpleasant, and realistic violence.
If you're not familiar with his work , you should watch "A History of Violence" and "Eastern Promises"
The violence is very uncomfortable, but they're both great films. If you can get past that , you'll see why David Cronenberg is one the best and most underrated directors. I'm not a huge fan of grotesque images and violence in films 😂
He's definitely not a "surface level" filmmaker.

Did the guy forget he has hands? Just wanted to white-knuckle his armrests and go along for the ride like he's on Star Tours? Such an incredibly stupid scene...

Watched this movie last night - found it disappointing. History of Violence worked because it had a "cartoon" hyper-realistic feel to it. This was grounded in "reality" - yet the contrived nature seemed at odds with the characters. I don't know - maybe it's me missing something. I also saw the "twist" coming a mile off - and hoped that I was wrong - but I wasn't. I'd give it a 5/10. Lead female's acting was also not great - and I thought she was brilliant in Lynch's Mullholland Drive. It's watchable - entertaining even - in an empty hollow way. For a Cronenberg movie (which can be hit or miss) this was a miss for me. Maybe my expectations were too high.

I know what you mean. I like Cronenberg's films, but IMO he used gore to mask his less-than-exemplary directing style, no matter how much some people try to dress it up as "stylised violence."
