"A crumbling comic book store that's one late payment away from becoming a vape shop..." Dude my favorite comic store literally went out of business and a vape shop opened up in their building. Right in the feels. Great video btw. I need a better storage solution for my comics.
Comic book shops are the perfect size for a vape shop and since the last place like blockbuster closed there is no big stores left. It had dvd/blue ray renting and sold stuff like skateboards, vinyl records and CDs, videogames, comics, regular books, board games and cardgames, and anything else you would see in gamestop like pops and t shirts with video game or comic book characters on it also ear rings of Harley Quinn for example
That's rough dude. Last shop I worked in, one location is a casino, the other is part of a hotel/condo and whatever. Vape shop or something "artisanal" would be so much worse.
That would be great if you had the art work for the comic series that it being used for that would make it alot easier to find the specific issues your looking for
Wait quick maths, you said the drawer one is $130 and you’d need 10 so ~$1300, and the stor-folios are $9 pre 15 comics so that would be ~$900 for your whole collection + some shelves to put everything on it’s basically the same price, right? Low balling maths with only 150 comic per shortbox.
Milancius I think it’s probably sponsored and they’re hoping you won’t look into the math. Stor folios are meant for temporary storage for conventions and stuff. Permanently storing in there is more expensive and more work. Opening a drawer to scan through 50+ comics is easier then taking out multiple storfolios to dump out and rummage through 15 comics at a time.
I own several hundred comics and I got the cheap cardboard magazine files, covered them in scrapbook paper and made labels for them so that they clearly display what was in the box. They sit so nicely on my shelves now! I keep them with the short side facing the front of the shelf so that I can easily sift through them to find the comic that I want, pull it out, read it and then put it back without having to pull the entire box off the shelf each time.
I don't read comics. But I do read manga. And I found this video rather pleasing. I love most of your videos. And also, I like to collect like.... EVERYTHING that I think is worth keeping. So seeing you recommend a way to store comics or magazines is always helpful in case I decide to. Right now, I only have my little collection on my bookshelf with a bookstop on a side. But i think eventually I'll buy or woodbuild something to store it in a more convenient way.
When I was a kid, I just used binders. While the bigger ones don't fit perfectly on a bookshelf (I'm sure this could be worked around), this method allows for the easiest way to flip throw and pick out comics. Just label the binders and put in two comics per sleeve with a board in between them. Done.
The last method is a sweet solution , currently I have some of my comics in a suitcase to keep them cool and dust free , the next few are in my waredrobe inside thier plastic covers again to keep them cool and my last 5 are in plastic covers with backing boards in a comic book company giveway box that says Anti Vennom Venom Club , I may have to re consider how they are stored in that box as I didnt know having lots of books in there can risk the condition of all the books , Awesome Video hugs :) 💜
Great video Will. That is a really cool box for single issues, I had never heard of em. I mostly trade wait so some sturdy bookcases usually got me covered. These might actually sway me to pick up more singles since I don't have room for long boxes. You should do more vids talking about your collection. I'd dig it.
This was super helpful! I started collecting single issues about a year and a half ago and just got a my first short box a couple of weeks ago. I was considering getting another as I couldn't fit all of my comics in the box but this looks like a great option to store the comics I'm currently following. Plus they would fit better on my small shelf than another short box would.
I have 3 short boxes, looked in amazon and for anyone like me who are getting these stor-folios buy them from BCW website they are cheapest! Great video Will!
I have 3 of this storfolio. They are nice but you can put 10/15 comics (bag and board) in one of them. They are nice if you want to protect better some comics but not so nice if you want save some space.
ROFL at your Vampie folio!! I just started collecting the Vengeance Of Vampirella monthly and my girlfriend is less than thrilled. I explained to her that I love the horror theme and the pin up artwork. She's still not convinced. Especially issue 2 with her ass straight up in the air.
I use mostly the short boxes but also own some of the BCW storfolio's you showed for specific comics like signed etc. also, of course getting the graded slabs is another way to display
I prefer the drawer boxes--at least in the lower layers. That way if I want to read a book on a lower layer, can open it pull out a single drawer instead of moving several heavy boxes beneath it.
Hey Will Thanks for showing off your way of storing your comic books. I was hoping to hear what the display you have in background holding comics is? I love the idea of having comic books easily accessible at a glance. do the comics get easily damaged on it?
Most of my tpb's are in small boxes. I only display the classic\legendary stories on shelves like Fables, 100 Bullets, Y the Last Man, Usagi Yojimbo and SAGA
If anyone cares and wants to read another great idea.... I have kallax shelves from ikea. I have my omni collection in those shelves. I bought the little drona boxes for like 4 bucks per and then cut up some cardboard and made a shortbox within the drona. So when its all put away you only see my omni collection and no comic short boxes. Made my office look way more organized.
Don't forget that you can purchase stuff in a thrift story especially things like filing cabinets they may not look the best but just decorate it with your favorite comic book cheracters
Used filing cabinets is a possible solution. You can get them fairly cheap. I have had a storfolio for a while, it's great when going to the LCS or comic convention. I always thought they would be cool for putting on the shelf, but they need to be about half the price. At about $5 it's doable, otherwise it's going to get pretty expensive, pretty fast, and book for book your about halfway to the comic cube.
I use a combination of classic short boxes, long Drawer Boxes and Stor folios. My collection is pushing 7,000 or so issues so it's definitely no small task.
I'm sticking mostly to bag, board, and box for now mainly because my collection isn't growing that fast as I mostly collect trades, and there are enough book shelves around the house for this to not really be a problem. My floppy collection has been so small that I'm only about half way through a short box over nearly six years.
I was using black magazine holders which were made out of cardboard for my books which I bought at Target for $5, but for some reason they stopped selling them, now they only sell ones made out of metal for $12. Will be looking into the store-folios though
I still enjoy the short box - it is iconic at this point. However, save for the Bat, I've gone to complete Trade/HC collecting. Waiting for trade does have its cons (having to wait for months to read what everyone is reading NOW kinda sucks), but looks fantastic on the shelf. Thanks for the BCW advice, as I have been looking for something to store my motorcycle magazines in something better than laying down on the shelf. Great video
I use toe stor-folios for transport, never thought of them for storage, but you do need a few after 2-3 runs of a book you need a new one. Im not a hardcore collector but id need 30 just to cover what I need now
I use the standard box method.. nothing too special. However, those stor-folios look rad as hell so I might have to invest in some of those! Awesome video!!
2 Years late but yeah same here, I have all digital comics, and I just watched the video to see how will figured it out. Just wanted to see it. Also I wish he would do more straight up comics stuff, because it seems like now he has to tie it into a new comic movie to make a video about them.
I had this problem until I decided to build my own drawers...3/4 inch plywood on full 22 inch draw slides...has 1/4 plexiglas in front to display. A custom made file cabinet exclusive to comics...working on getting ready to sell.
You had me at X-O Manowar. They even had the Valiant shortboxes I haven't been able to find anywhere online since they've been sold out on the official Valiant merch website.
I definitely wouldn't invest in store folios for a large collection. For one thing, you need a lot of shelf space to store all your books, and for another, the flaps break easily. Anyone who had one of the old school action figure holder knows that if you open it repeatedly the binding wears down and the cover eventually comes off. I might invest in one or two for travelling, but they take up way too much space and are far too delicate--especially since they cost as much as most boxes.
Those r good opitions for comic storages. Only problem when a collection is in the thousands lol. I store my comics in a similar storage as a comic store. I'd post it here for all to see if I could.
So I upgraded my gaming setup by Bob, now comicbooks by Will. Thank you Wulff Den! Btw, does Will even read our comments like Bob? If he does, PIN MY COMMENT PLEASE -DADDY-
I have shortboxes that fit pretty well in an IKEA kallax. It's not ideal though, they're still ugly boxes. But it looks somewhat neat and organised. I like the idea of a file cabinet. If it's too expensive, maybe you could check out second hand stores or execution sales? You might be able to get one for cheap.
I had my long boxes downstairs. I had a flood not long ago...well a leak or two and came home and thought i had a ruined collection. I now have them on the second floor in a spare room. Away from any water. Whew.

Have you ever heard of the following: something like a folio, but you put in comics and then you're able to read them as well. It's an alternative to getting them bound. Someone told me guys are making them with printers.
I really wish they had some with DC or Marvel artwork. Especially considering that’s what most people will buy them for. Oh well. Black it is then I guess. Lol. I’m sure DC and Marvel would charge them a buttload to use their images. Still. I’d probably be willing to pay an extra $10 to get one with art featuring the comic characters contained within.
I always wondered do collectors of anything want the separate or combined versions of something like new super mario u and luigi u. Would you want the combined one disc with both or the separate games or both? Same with comics would you want a hardback that's the compleate story arc or each individual comic? Get each season of a TV show on DVD or the entire series?

Mustafa Elassal I just buy them online and I don’t buy single issues, just trade paperback. Don’t really care about collecting, I just want to read the book
last night bob had to leave his stream saying he needed to take pictures of your house. So are the pictures of the cardboard boxes in your house? and does bob shoot your videos while you shoot bobs?
At the minute I put my collection in to folders like you would with forms and other paper stuff but I make sure that I put them in a plastic wallet first though. Once my folder gets full I put it in to a cupboard. I've got no space left though now, so I would something different but I'm not too sure what to do. Anyone got any suggestions?
All my comics are in an old filing box... It's like 50 of them, mostly Trek, Batman, and X-Men. I don't even know why I'm here, I don't even collect comics, because my other hobbies take all my money.
I got mine from someone who was cleaning their attic, and figured I was the biggest nerd they knew. I'm a Trek fan, but the Trek comics I have are all original series based, and I was never as into ToS as I was into TNG and DS9.
The portfolio's look great, but only realistic for specific issues if you have thousands of books. This is an non stop issue for me and I HATE having to constantly move my boxes to put books away. It is literally never organized and I end up with long boxes & short boxes of just books that need to be read and/or filed. I'm gonna have to kick my kids out of the house so I can take their rooms for my books. Sorry guys :(
"A crumbling comic book store that's one late payment away from becoming a vape shop..." Dude my favorite comic store literally went out of business and a vape shop opened up in their building. Right in the feels.

That's rough dude. Last shop I worked in, one location is a casino, the other is part of a hotel/condo and whatever. Vape shop or something "artisanal" would be so much worse.
I got my filing cabinets from work when they were clearing them out. They've housed my comics for years. Works great
These are definately a great suggestion for beginning collectors.
The magazine holder is an easy and cheap solution that I'll use.
That would be great if you had the art work for the comic series that it being used for that would make it alot easier to find the specific issues your looking for
Yeah, would be great to see them get more mainstream series/publishers on board.

All my comics are in an old filing box... It's like 50 of them, mostly Trek, Batman, and X-Men. I don't even know why I'm here, I don't even collect comics, because my other hobbies take all my money.
MarklenIngyer you have more than me at least
I got mine from someone who was cleaning their attic, and figured I was the biggest nerd they knew.
I'm a Trek fan, but the Trek comics I have are all original series based, and I was never as into ToS as I was into TNG and DS9.
😮😮😮. Sweet.
She'd better like Vampirella
Price is just ridiculous though. Would cost about $100 to store one short box worth of comics.
I don't have many comics, maybe about 150? And I just but them in a box
Sorry guys :(
Thoughts on the InkyPen app coming to Nintendo Switch this November?
