- Best viewed in 60 fps (only available on HTML5 player). Mark is player 1 and I'm player 2. Reloading here wasn't quite as easy as it is on the PC version, so that did make this a little harder to play. The flashes from shooting can be annoying, but there wasn't anything I could do about that. I mean, there's really no flaw; these aren't zombies, but cloned artificial lifeforms. It's confirmed in the lore -- that's why you don't ever see people "turn" after being exposed to them. Not to mention the AMS Agents are really trashing a lot of equipment, and saving the scientists means there's no one to operate the labs, so...
When the AMS Agents roll through; there's nothing left behind them. It shows that truly, in the Staff Roll/End Credits, as well. With the Mansion cleared, there's not a sound or soul in sight... *somber piano begins to play*

Today on 9/13/2016 marks the day that this game first arrived in Japan before coming to the US a year later. Happy 20th Anniversary to House of The Dead, the bastard child to Resident Evil that became something more than its predecessor ever was:)

Actually, this game was released in March 1997 in Japan as a 50-inch deluxe cabinet, and May 1997 everywhere else. These are all according to the official SEGA websites, flyers and manuals.
Now it's old enough to get drunk since there won't be a proper conclusion to the series. Happy 21st anniversary HoTD!

Well once at the end of the game, Curien introduces the final boss, but then, the final boss turns against Curien and Curien is shot with a fire ball or something and then dies. So really, idk, but it’s a great game!

If I'm not mistaken, depending upon how many scientists you save and your final score, you get two alternate endings. One where Sophie survives and is waiting for you when you complete the game and another where it shows a shot of her in the mansion as a zombie.

The flash is because it is a light gun game, and old light gun games had to flash the screen in order for the gun to aim correctly.
If you think the flashing in two-player mode is bad in the arcade, try the Saturn version out. Epilepsy fest for reals.
It's funny when the scientists give you a life up or run up and talk to you they then walk away staring at you as if they're repulsed by you haha
Or rather, one moment they're in danger, the next moment as soon as you save them, they simply give you a first-aid kid and casually walk away, as if they've suddenly forgotten the danger a few seconds ago.

At least all of the bosses were nice enough to wait a few seconds while the protagonists are looking through their boss books to figure out their weak points.
It's like they're all saying, "Go ahead, take your time to figure out my weak spots and then we'll start the fight."

This is truly one of the most memorable games ever!
Not a bad gameplay,but what bothers me is the flashing
The flashing is from the real Model 2 hardware. The original House of the Dead machine had optical light guns where the screen flashes each time a shot is registered on-screen. It's just a technology thing of the light guns of old. I've completed this game many times though and never had any seizures from the flash. :P
The screen flashes as part of the procedure to determine where the shot was aimed. Not each time a shot is registered on-screen. If one would aim off-screen and fire, the screen would still flash even though no shot on-screen was registered. The fact that you yourself did not get a seizure does not say much. Some people are sensitive to flashes and can get an epileptic seizure, most are not.
The flash is the only way the machine can know where the aim is.

Kobe Lamouche Productions Lol, well, I never forget the moment how this game became a great impact on my childhood. I got no frights or terror like others growing up, just me picking up the light gun and firing away at a mob of zombies and monsters. Also, this game was my first video game and arcade console I played. (: Hell, to this day, I’m real desperate to find work and raise about 15 hundred dollars to get this one cabinet from eBay. Of course, it’s easy to get the one on Saturn, but I’m after the cabinet I grew up to enjoy. BTW, love the series as well since you mentioned them in your comment, however, haven’t watched 28 Days Later, but I’m interested since I keep hearing a lot about it. Also, my top list of zombie favorites are:
1. House of the Dead
2. The Walking Dead
3. The Last of Us
4. Resident Evil
5. Zombieland
Also, I’ll just put Silent Hill as my most favorite horror series of all since, no offense I say it, I don’t see it as a zombie movie, but more like monsters and demons since almost every single one looks demonically crafted, along with the setting of being in a cursed town.
It seems people don't pay much attention to this game because it's a reader game, kinda sucks because this series is so memorable.

Why did they have to give Curien the most inappropriate voice to ever come out of a human being?
Because that's the point of the entire HOTD series... the voice acting is supposed to be terrible because to fans, it's pretty hilarious.
If it were improved and had actual feeling/character development, then it would likely be boring. I mean, people have gotten so used to the awful voice acting over the years when it comes to this game series.
If you're looking at House of the Dead Overkill, that's a different story. At least they improved the voice acting but made the dialogue intentionally funny (or at least tried to).

2 mice were used, not regular controllers. You can use a second mouse on this game by enabling raw input in the configuration file.
