As a bass player, I'll tell you all the groove is in the right hand !! Ghost notes and finding the pocket is important. The most important part of finding groove is not when notes start, but when they end. You are doing pretty well. On higher notes, I really hear the pick. Try knocking just a bit off the high end.... just a thought.
Thanks so much, excellent tips!! For sure, I should definitely try a felt pick. Of course it’ll never compete with a real bass guitar in the mix but it’s nice to have access to some low end if I’m live looping :)
@@tjguardino I think it works well with the tunes that I've heard. And having heard guitarists play actual basses, I think you are way ahead of the game.
I've been using your custom tone for this video and really appreciate you sharing it. It sounds excellent not only with single-coil pickups (as demonstrated) but also with P90s and humbuckers. I have also tried it with a guitar with flat wound strings and humbuckers. Using flat-wound strings gives the bass preset a slightly darker sound without the sharpness in the top end. I understand it may be impractical if you want to maintain brightness for rhythm and lead guitar, but I thought I’d mention it since I’ve noticed a significant difference when trying it. It’s definitely worth experimenting with if you have some flat wound strings on hand. I used the Poly Capo for simplified bass simulation but I now prefer your preset with Simple Pitch. I would play the bass parts with my thumb or a thick pick, using smooth, rounded edges to achieve a fuller tone. Thank you again for the video and tone-sharing!
Woooah that’s really good insight thank you!! And I’m glad you’re enjoying the patch, I’m gonna have to try some of those pickup/string configurations myself!
When I found your channel a couple months ago I was surprised to see you had less then a thousand subscribers. Your stuff is easily some of the best content on RUclips for guitarists I especially like this stuff as I love this niche of guitar/groove box player Another great video mate. Thank you
Wow thanks so much for the kind words!! That’s awesome you’re enjoying it.. I was hoping I’d find other guitarists out there who love grooveboxes and it’s so cool to connect with some ⚡️🙏🙌
I just bought an HX stomp over the weekend in a large part due to your demos. I found your videos because I was looking to build a small hardware sequencing situation. There's a good chance I'll end up with your exact setup in the next few months.
Nice ! I'm a bass player with cubital syndrome and and like 3 epicondylitis at most time , I often use my guitar as a bass with the EHX Bass 9 when I'm working out loops so I keep it strong for when I really need to track the old 4 string. The idea of a gate to tight and clean it up is, simply, brilliant and I am going to try it out tonight. Cheers !
Great video, love the versatility of the HX stomp. Unrelated question, but what kind of computer keyboard is it you have? I've tried searching for it and had no luck. Thanks!
Thanks!! Yeah, the HX stomp is crazy good. Is this what you’re thinking of? KB Covers Avid Pro Tools Keyboard Cover Compatible with Wireless Magic Keyboard (2016+) | Ultra Thin Dust Water & Dirt Resistant Silicone Skins a.co/d/3aeBtm5

You also may try a felt pick.

Wow that’s awesome!!! You’ll love the HX Stomp, I truly think it’s my favorite guitar pedal of all time

Wow I’m so glad this is helpful then!! The Gate is subtle but I really do think it makes a difference :) Been wanting to try the Bass 9 soon!
Just got an hex stomp and happened upon this video, thanks for the tips and patch!
Glad it’s helpful! Enjoy the stomp!
Love the simplicity. Lowering the guitar volume knob helps as well, instead of palm muting.
Ahh good call I’ll have to try that!
Cool. I donhave the HX stomp but will try to replicate it on my Dna
Nice!! Let me know how it works out!
