    One of the great bluesmen from too long ago. Telling my sons about music like it used to be. Glad Mike's stuff lives on. Thanks for this.

    The greatest!! Had he lived, he would be as popular as Eric Clapton, B B King, .... Never heard anyone like him!!!

      Bob Hoffman As someone who loves Bloomfield, I have to respectfully disagree. Mike never wanted to be famous, so I doubt he would have ever been "popular" to the general public. I mean, he was 37 when he died, not like he was 22 or something. He was playing local clubs and pubs. Like Peter Green, his fame and popularity will be with amongst blues aficionados and guitar players.

      Nick B in his time Mike Bloomfield was much more popular than Eric Clapton. Mike Bloomfield had a huge effect on the entire San Francisco sound and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band ripped everyone's heads apart out here in 1966 and 67.

    ZINEDINE, THANK YOU! Michael was so incredible. I spoke to him at the Music Hall in Atlanta when he was there with Nick G and Mark Naftalin, Roger Morton on bass. Absolutely unpretentious and so friendly - my only regret was not telling him how much his playing had inspired me and still does. But how do you? Timeless music, man!

    I fell in love with this guys blues licks, I thought they were killer. Super session album (live) blew me away. Especially 59'th St. Bridge song. I don't know why, maybe it was the bending techniques... yeh that was it. he had killer dynamics...

    @ZINEDINE05 You are exactly right, it was abandoned at the Cave nightclub in Vancouver around 1974.....read the June, 2011 issue of Vintage Guitar to get the whole story. According to them, the guitar changed hands several times and is now owned by an anonymous private collector in the Toronto area.

  • @G7flat5

    I beleive Claptons was a 1960.Beck had two sunbursts,one was stripped down had a broken headstock repair and replaced neck.The other beautiful burst was stolen in the early 70's and the Chicago guitar player who bought it allegedly claims he called Beck & Beck said he did not want it back. Ironically the guy who bought it was a Beck fanatic. I have pictures of the guitar. I am not sure why Beck would not want it back.The guy may have made the story up so people wold not think he was an asshole

  • @ZINEDINE05
    @ZINEDINE05  15 лет назад

    its his 1959 sunburst! the only other les paul he was known to use was a 1957 goldtop and that was before he acquired his 59.

    There's a live recording of Mike jamming with Johnny Winter. Any guitarist who's got the balls to share the sane stage with Johnny had better be good! Michael is every bit in Johnny's league, they are a match par excellance..!!!

    • @timo.6634
      @timo.6634 6 лет назад +4

      Actually Mike helped introduce the world to Johnny: Bloomfield stepped up to the microphone and, as I remember it, told a story about encountering this musician from Texas - “the baddest motherfucker” - the night before at a Manhattan rock club, Steve Paul’s The Scene. And then Bloomfield introduced “Johnny Winters,” adding an S to his name. The following week, Johnny Winter was signed to a recording contract by some Columbia Records execs who had come to the Fillmore to see Super Session, a Columbia act. The buzz built rapidly from there.

    this picture is from the early 70's. mike got rid of his goldtop around 66.if you look closely you can see the scratch on the body of the guitar that he had on his 59 les paul.yes it looks like a smaller les paul,but i think its because of the angle the photo was taken at.

    • @aliensporebomb

      Dan Erlewine has Mike's old goldtop. They swapped guitars, Mike got Dan's 59 Burst and Dan got the Goldtop.

    @ZINEDINE05 Hi - don't take this bad, but Mike actually did play another Les paul, it was one his guitar teacher gave him - from his own words = see you tube video "Mike Bloomfield Interview" this video is one showing Mike holding his 1959 sunburst and taking about bursts and his first les paul (a black one)

  • @Zombocoltrane

    There is actually a little more to it than that. Mike was a no-show for the actual show. When he came to the club the owner had confiscated it as compensation despite protests from Mike. I assume some coked-out arse-hole played awful blues on it in Vancouver, the lower mainland and other parts of Western Canada ad infinitum.
