I personally wouldn't mind if you guys did a replay week once a month, or every now and then; there are so many games in the back catologue that are fantastic! It'll always be a fresh experience with a different cast playing, and you could do something like picking the replayed game with a patreon poll. Quick, easy way to create extra value for patrons, as well as see what games are most likely to be responded to well by the community.
BEST HOUSERULE for this game: Toss all zombie standees in a bag, and draw as needed. When a survivor dies, they go into the bag. It is a wild thing to draw zombies and sometimes end up placing old friends in the zombie slots.
If it helps you can view morale as faith in the colony, morale hits zero and people abandon the colony en masse, to either try to survive on their own or seek out another colony.
Always appreciate a Frostbit Boy reference - loved Sully's at 20:39 and 1:36:05. Feels bad that no-one else has seen it. 'Ooh Aye, ya wouldn't beh long gettin' frostbet'
My group ALWAYS forgets to pick up the Crossroads cards. So we made our own rule that whoever's turn it is has to first pick up the card and hand it to the person next to them (without looking of course). Think of it like a new Step one or a Step Zero.
I coincidentally just watched your first Dead of Winter video a few hours ago. Sully remarkably had the same thing happen in the first turn of both games.
@jgriff3004 The game they just played out in the video shows the game's big flaw: the game is already difficult without a traitor, but a player with a traitor, the traitor can actively be working with the group and not act against the group and the game still doesn't have a winner. It is a long game 1 1/2 to 2 hours, and no one wins. At least with other co-op games (like Pandemic), the group can lose or win, or in other semi-co-op games (like Betrayal at House on the Hill), the group or the traitor wins. With DoW the traitor can win by just existing in the group or the game wins, but it is harder for the group to win even when the traitor isn't actively working against the group, but even the traitor won't win. It just feels like a bigger fail sometimes. Is it still good? To me, YES, but not to everyone. Lots of people won't play DoW because it just doesn't have a good pay-off after a 90 - 120 min game. For me, I love the experience, thematics, and story of it.
I dont care about zombies and it is often a turn-off theme for me when looking into new games. DoW and Carnival Zombie are the only two I like and I love them both!
Oh! I love watching you play this game! Honestly one you guys could play more often… this and the Thing games, and Nemesis I think? I know they are really long games but they are so gosh darn fun to watch! 😂
This is one of my FAVORITE board games. I played it a lot with my board game club at the C.I.A. (Culinary Institute of America). I was the traitor once and didn't do anything until the last few rounds and won. It was such a betrayal that the whole group from then on always assumed I was the traitor. Only one other time I was the traitor and I was unable to win due to if I gave even an inch of anything I knew I was out. In the game I did everything like normal, but at the end I withheld resources and....saved my people only to spread the virus. I had REALLYYYY valuable characters and they agreed they were needed and was worth the risk. However, the final turn I knew I could win by taking all my people back to base and....letting the virus spread. I killed the entire base camp in one turn. It was great. They were so frustrated they didn't catch on. I explained to them I was above board the entire time until the last few rounds. Hence why they always suspected me, despite only one other time I was actually on their side. I also played with the expansion version which added mutated zombies and made the game...actually very hard. I figured he was the betrayer...He was doing exactly what I did when I was it.
Love the idea of revisiting some of these more involved games, this was a fun watch. Bonus Dangerous Drinking Game: Every time they forget to draw the crossroads, take a drink.
I have EVERY single expansion and Promo cards and characters (except for the 2 crossroads cards that r Rody Smith's 2 kids), I even have Raxxon which is a completely different game but a prequel to Dead of Winter. I LOVE this game.
I love the concept of this game, but this playthrough shows what I've found to be its biggest issue: the game itself can be way too hard for the traitor to even matter. The betrayer often doesn't have to do anything but fulfill their secondary objective and wait for the crises, crossroads events, helpless survivors, and unlucky rolls to do the job for them (especially if you're playing with inexperienced players). Of course, the alternative is to make the game way too easy if there's no betrayer, so it's an impossible tightrope for the designers.
I love that you do replays. Can you replay Betrayal at House on the Hill? Can you play Betrayal Legacy? Honestly you should do it every year for Halloween. I love when you all dressed up!
Love the videos. I notice you did a couple of cosmic encounter runs. I was wondering if you all will ever play it again? With so many character cards that game has a lot of playability without getting old. My favorite is the gambler, When Sullivan was the bride. That was hilarious xD
Buckaroo?! I just had a trivia night where Buckaroo was one of the questions, and as someone who played that a lot with my cousin as a kid, I truly enjoyed the throwback. I hope we do see Buckaroo but on a mechanical bull someday for house rules!
I'm embarrassed to say that I only recently noticed that the BOTC evil team reveal was always in the video preview... and I've been watching for a whileeee....
"How do we get morale?!?" You don't; you just don't loose it in the first place: such as getting weapons to not die fighting zombies and getting gas so you can move without dying. Starting with a gas shortage so you didn't use your starting gas for initial deployment was rough. Not having weapons for the first hour and a half was rough. I've won a few games(somewhere around half) and haven't played all that many. The game is not impossible, just hard. You NEED to strategically ignore crises, you can't afford the card drain of doing them all.
It's fun to watch Dead of Winter, but I will absolutely never play it. The combo of high difficulty, traitor mechanics, randomness and long playtime... I would finish every single game annoyed.
This is a fun game and so far my favorite characters are if not counting the expansions and only this game they are John Price (student),Edward White(chemist), Mike Cho(ninja), Thomas Heart(soldier), Daniel Smith(sheriff), Gabriel Diaz(fireman), jenny Clark(waitress) and Olivia brown(Doctor)

There are so many brilliant games that have been played on this channel that I could watch you play the same game 100 times without getting bored of it
It's crazy to think this board game was released 10 years ago. It still feels so modern. Love to see that it still gets so much love as it is my first board game to ever own, a gift from my brother.

They should have exiled Laurie and Sparky at the end. The colony is dying, everyone is wounded and things are looking bleak. They all come together for one last heroic task, sending Sparky away to live and find another companion to care for him. It is the only decent thing they can do in a time like this.
I love this game, need to get it on the table more often. In regards Ken not doing anything, I was the traitor when I played the game with my family and I didn't have to do anything either, as things started going to sh*t without my help and I actually ended winning as had met my objective :)

Upvoting this for visibility! Make re-play a regular part of the channel!
