Tilly and Jon both played a very cool game. Tilly figured it out and purely needed to buy time to walk across, and then Jon bought her that time by hiding that he had Miss Scarlett. Fantastic.
Maybe it's just because I play the game a lot, but I thought that Jon continually guessing Miss Scarlett would have been a dead giveaway that he had the card in his own hand.
@@scdwolfboy I agree, because Sullivan knows that Jon must have seen Miss Scarlett the last time he guessed, the only reason to continue guessing the same card is because it was correct (which Sullivan knows it wasn't) or because you have it in your hand. In this variant especially since you don't know who has the card and thus how far around it got so your guesses would be literally be valueless.
While correct, it was possible for Sullivan to think Jon kept asking for Scarlett cuz Laurie kept showing him everything BUT Scarlett. Either because Laurie could be trying to help Sullivan or just unravel Jon -both equally likely 😂

@@Siennarchist oh did Sullivan choose how to kill Mr. Boddy? I must have forgotten that info if so. I assumed Sullivan only knew he was the killer, not the place or weapon.
It was at right this exact second that I realized the joke about the victim in Cluedo being named "Boddy", that went right over my head as a child

I don't know if this is a "back when I was a kid" thing or a British thing, but the dead man was always Dr Black when I played. If it's British, we lost the pun with Mr Boddy but kept one with Cluedo.

You know, you would think you’d be able to tell that the murder weapon was the rope just by looking at the body.
“Oh, he seems to have been strangled to death.”
“Indeed, but with what? Could it have been this gun?”
“Perhaps he was strangled with this bottle of poison? “
In reality the body is just horribly mangled and was assualted with each of the weapons as a diversion technic to make it harder to find the cause of death
Also, you should easily be able to learn which room it was.
"Okay guys, our host has been murdered. Now lets go find the body"

Tilly initially having a hard time keeping track of everything then immediately honing in on Sullivan is such a mood.
Some "House Rules" are just entertainingly silly, but I actually think that's a legitimately fun alternative way to play Cluedo. Great job 👍

If you ever play this again, I would recommend a change. Dead peoples' cards can be shown to anyone in the room where they died only, rather than being publicly visible. It would create a location the killer could target.

I spent ages thinking Jon was super forgetful for some reason, like how is he not remembering he has miss scarlet, not realising the strategy at all. Absolute genius play, props to Jon.
Can I just say, it should be a house rule going forward in all episodes that the players must wear an outfit that matches their piece to make it easier for plebs like me to follow along!

All of the House Rules that I've seen so far have been trying to make a game unworkable or painful to play, so no one would want to play them a second time. This actually has potential for replay, or being a proper game. I like it.
IDK which ones you've been watching, but that's rarely ever the case. It's always for fun and to raise the stakes in a different kind of way, not to be purposefully unenjoyable or "painful".
I mean, I guess the Monopoly is "painful"... but still for the fun of it. Otherwise why would they continue to do it over and over again?

I'm not sure if the hidden cards were pre-planned, but I love the fact that "With the Rope in the Billiards room" is exactly how the maid (who in the original game was Miss White) was killed in the movie!

I love to imagine these house rules as an actual game that you gather other people around to play, but then you tell them, "Oh we play it different in my house."
Mostly it works. "We do shots with battleship," "We do backwards poker," "We do vibes based guess who." But this one would be such a hard sell. "We do an elaborate 6 person social deduction game, with a GM and everything."

Laurie is trying to gaslight everybody in to thinking it's Sullivan, even though HE is the butler! It's always the butler!!!
Sometimes the House Rules episodes are just silly fun, but every so often it vastly improves the game. 100% I would play this version as a party game. Well done whoever did the design.
The fact that Tilly called it while still not fully understanding how the game works is amazing

I really enjoy this adaptation of clue/cluedo - the added blind factor really increases the difficulty of what is often too easy of a game.

This is now one of my favorite House Rules episodes. I like the goofy episodes, too, but I really love when you guys create something that makes me go, "I wanna play that!" What a fun way to elevate Cluedo :)
Maybe its just me but the murderer seems very underpowered.
The most broken thing is someone seeing a person card as that basicly confirms that person is not the killer and the information can be trusted. I think a person card should only be shown if the other 2 where shown already too someone too make it the hardest too find out.
Maybe i missunderstood the rules but how can the murderer figure out what card someone is holding?
Also if someone gets murdered maybe the cards shouldnt be revealed but put into the hands of the other players.
Amd finally maybe the murderer may be allowed too see who else in the ropm as him
I believe it is the guessing part of the killer as a win condition was really hard. It just felt really hard to guess what room they are in and a card in their hand, which makes Sullivan killing two people impressive. While having enough rounds to kill everyone in this game, we seen at the end of the game guessing what room they are in is the hardest part. So there was plenty of time to collect information on who did it.
Things I would probably change is the killer will know how many people are in the room with him, not who with him/her just how many if any are in the room with him/her. Secondly, the killer doesn't have to reveal the cards in their hands. This removes a lot of information from the game for them to spread misinfo. Though when theyh kill of another player the cards become unlocked. So as it comes down to the last innocent can start narrowing down the missing information. A third thing I would do is spread the dead player's cards face down in different rooms like the two rooms that players can check if they are in that room.
Something for the innocent players, is when they check the card it will get revealed to the table as public information the next round. Meaning the have a turn to move before the killer gets a chance to kill them.
Stuff I would experiment with is the killer being able to kill someone in the same room as them without the guess of a card in hand. Maybe the killer can swap the face down cards on the board with one from their hands or remove the card from the board completely. Thematically it being the killer planting or destroying evidence.
i think a possibility of adjusting this is such that the killer's hand is always the other players' cards. that way the non-killers can't immediately know who's trustworthy by being simply dealt that card. you could also adjust the rules so that when guessing, players are always shown weapon/room (if possible) before being shown suspect (if possible).
I mean... In regular Cluedo, the killer is still among the players. It's just entirely irrelevant, and the player who is the killer still wins upon finding the killer/room/weapon combo.
Jon's strategy of guessing his own card while looking for the location, and pretending to be sus of Tilly thus confusing Sully of the cards was brilliant.

That was amazing please do more stuff like this, I was literally cackling this entire episode with Dom's tough army guy who's actually never gone to war, sullivans chelsea? and tilly blair and jon are always amazing. Can't forget the amazing gamemaster/butler.
I tried watching from Tilly's perspective, by closing my eyes for everything else besides the group meetings. I had no idea what was going on. I guess I'll need to watch it again, without closing my eyes. The reveal was exciting though.
Clue/cluedo is genuinely one of my all time favorites. I have a special edition that disguises itself as a book
love the idea, although i'd love to see an updated version where it's a little bit more balanced for the killer!

Haven't finished watching the video yet, am loving it all so far.
This is such a cool house rules twist on the game. I would maybe add in an accomplice to this take on the game so it makes it a little more balanced for the 'guilty' team. Maybe have the 2 cards in the 2 locations be 2 character cards and maybe 1 other innocent person has a a character card - therefore the players have to risk something to get the massive benefit of trusting another player. Otherwise it seems a bit too easy to secure confirmation chains. But I may be totally dumb with this thought. 😅

Not sure what prevents them from just giving all of their information immediately, the only thing that keeps them from winning almost immediately is if someone other than the killer has their own card, then you’d have to pick between those people. (Or if it’s one of the two cards.)
for the same reason you don’t give away all your information in regular clue. if everyone tell the table all their cards, there wouldn’t be much of a game left, and the next person up would automatically win. yes, they’re technically playing as a team, but the threat of death means that there’s still motivation to be the correct guesser
@@mvwinf if you're playing selfishly I suppose, but no its not even remotely comparable to normal clue in that regard lol. One is a team game in which you all win by giving your info, the other is in individual game where you want to share no info
@@imdadirtydan I think in this case, any given information would help the killer as well. not to find the truth, of course, but if you guess plum hall wrench and you say you saw hall, then the killer knows you’re actively in the hall rn. and if you say you saw wrench, then the killer can narrow down their list of people who might have that card. if someone corroborates you, then it’s already down to just two people. I do see what you’re saying, though - it’s hard to turn a solo social deduction game into a team one
@@mvwinf The killer doesn't have time to kill all of them because they're already found out. That's the fundamental issue with the game. They have almost all of the information to begin with and there's no reason not to share it other than possibly dying, which isn't an issue if you just figure it out using all the info to begin with. Even if they don't do this immediately all the dead players cards get flipped, so by the end of the game there's no way you don't have the information to figure out who it is.
@@imdadirtydan this feels like a very utilitarian view of the game to me. in social deduction games, there’s always a chance anyone could be lying. if you all go around the table and say your cards, there will be discrepancies, and it may not be obvious who is the cause of said discrepancies. so you wouldn’t be able to automatically trust any information you’re given. also, not least of all, that just doesn’t sound very fun? if the game was only figuring out who the murderer is using the cards you’ve been given, it would be werewolf with layers of unnecessary steps. part of the fun is playing detective, even if it’s not the most efficient gameplay strategy

In love with this house rules! As someone who finds Cluedo boring to replay, but has a girlfriend that loves it, this looks like a fun middle ground for us!!

Clue/Cluedo was not originally called 'Murder' it was based on a parlor game by that name. The board game was originally called 'Cluedo' which it still goes by today.
I think it's a joke about the number of times they would get comments about Monopoly originally being called The Landlord's Game.
I've suggested this variation on the reddit and long before NRB, it seemed like a fun twist on the game of Clue, but I was never smart enough to figure out how something like that could work. This is brilliant.

I always liked how in some versions The Butler is named 'Diddit' (although of course ironically he's never a suspect)
