- Considered one of the best sections of the Australia Alps Walking Track, Kiandra to Kosciuszko explores the New South Wales high country from the abandoned gold mining town of Kiandra to Mount Kosciuszko - the highest peak on the Australian mainland. Traversing alpine grasslands past towering peaks, snow gum forests, creeks and historic huts, this is a iconic multi-day in the Australian high country.
Join me on this three part series as I make my way along the track between Kiandra and Mount Kosciuszko

Shame about the weather but that’s alpine for you. LOVE this series
@@50shikingaustraliajennywoo92 it is what it is, especially in alpine regions, it J had an enjoyable walk nonetheless!
Kiandra to Thredbo is a spectacular section, and great to reminisce about my own walk through this section. Well filmed, although nothing can ever capture the vastness of the area.
@@Earlofmar1 totally agree, there is a magical vastness to the area. Usually I hate vehicle track walking, but it so wild out there you quickly forget it’s all on vehicle tracks
Well done friend. I’ve enjoyed the journey with you.
@@koertslik3557 thank you, that’s so good to hear! I always hope it feels like the viewer is along for the journey
Great footage, SD card problems notwithstanding. I know it's not ideal walking in the rain, but it really brings out the colours in the landscape, and the snowgums in particular.
@@johnnomcjohnno1957 thank you, yeah the phone footage was better than I thought it would be. Helps that the landscape was spectacular. I don’t mind a bit of rain for the reasons you said, though the deluge being so full on I had to change my plans was a disappointment. But can’t complain about how good these two days were. I’m definitely coming back to climb Jagungal sometime!
Nice work man! The scenery on days 3 and 4 looked amazing!!
@@MeasuredLight these two days were just extraordinary, the scenery blew me away. And my night at Whites River Hut, bunkered down with a fire inside while it stormed outside, is one of my favourite nights out in a trail ever
It’s a shame about the weather Don, however it’s all part of the adventure I suppose😉 I’m loving reliving this section of the AAWT- I think I must of been just down over the border when that front came through🤔
@@goinferal5815 it was a shame to have to skip the Rolling Grounds but on the bright side - my night by myself in Whites River Hut with the fire roaring as I planned out my route is probably one of my favourite nights out on a trail ever
@@thelongwaysbetter those mountain huts are great in bad weather… I had the same thing after slogging up Mt Wills in the snow… getting into the hut and starting a fire was such a contrast to my wet and cold morning hiking in the snow… awesome 👍😉
On your non-WA hikes it would be great to discuss the gear you changed to suit the expected conditions and what worked and didn’t and why (eg “with all the expected water crossings I got these x brand waterproof socks and they are/aren’t working out …”
Hey Fayley, it's a good point and I will make a video about my gear later this year. To be honest, I pretty much bring the same gear on all my multi-day hikes give or take some items (e.g. no thermal liner if it's a Summer hike and the forecast is quite warm, gaiters if its Tassie or very off track). For this hike I was satisfied with everything I brought and only regretted not packing rain pants and a pack cover for day 5 which was non-stop rain, and I had not realised how the umbrella now runs water off onto my pack which is water resistant but not to that level.
Good on ya mate, great walk. How did you on the section where you leave the road and cross the paddocks with the small aroiws every once and awhile…was it hard to navigate?
@@AaronNolan-p1o hmmm, I’m not sure which section you mean. Was it during these days? The only but where I remember getting off the road was near the powerlines on day 2 where the vehicle track sort of disappeared
@@thelongwaysbetter whoops my bad. The section I referred to was in the thawra to kiandra part. Sorry mate.
@@AaronNolan-p1o all good. I'm actually interested to know about that section too as I would like to do Tharwa to Kiandra (or vice-versa) some other time, but walking through potentially difficult to navigate tall grass with snakes around is not really something I'm particularly enthused about
