Kiandra to Kosciuszko: An AAWT Adventure (New South Wales) - Episode 3: Whites River to Kosciuszko

Traversing alpine grasslands past towering peaks, snow gum forests, creeks and historic huts, this is a iconic multi-day in the Australian high country.

      @@luket6334 it’s almost 100% of the official Kiandra to Kosciuszko section. Water was very plentiful except for one stretch as a usual water source was dry. Usually I carry two litres but that day I should have refilled at a flowing creek before camp. I walked the track N2S in April and it was fantastic. I had never walked with poles, but with all the sand they were a game changer for me. I do like your umbrella and it reminded me of the explorer Nicholas Crane who wrote in his book 'Clear Waters Rising' about his umbrella called ''Que Chova''. Great video and thanks for sharing your journey.

      @@206898195311 it’s a great walk for sure. I usually hike with poles but now that I’m shooting video my hands are now full and the poles are impractical unfortunately though in hindsight I wish I had used them as I developed Achilles Tendinopathy as a result of the long beach walking. Never knew about Nicholas Crane! I must look that up!

    Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Without it, I wouldn't have know the pyramid was the peak of Mount Cooke, and I wouldn't have gone looking for it.

    Don ... this must be one of our favourite videos for its honesty and depiction of how at times we have absolutely no control of circumstances. Dad was sad that covid was the ruiner of plans. It did however make this episode bittersweet and poignant. The music by Matt Smith was just perfect. As always, Dad and I are very proud of you, Mum

      Thanks guys! It’s a shame it wasn’t what it was supposed to be, but I hope the series goes some way to showing you what the hike would’ve been like.

    Great vid Don… you might of just convinced me to re walk the Cape to Cape after I finish the Bibb later this year… and BBQ shapes are perfect the hiker trash food🤣

      Glad you enjoyed and are inspired to do it again! It’s a fantastic walk and worth repeat visits. I do like a hot meal at the end of the day, but the Shapes were sufficient. As I mentioned to Mark I’m more of a Pizza Shapes guy so that was probably my biggest disappointment :P

    I was jazzed for this series and it didn't disappoint. Also, nothing wrong with BBQ Shapes as a dinner option.

      LOL you know me, I like a proper meal for dinner, and a hot one preferably! I may have been less disappointed if it was Pizza Shape though!

    Did you walk straight past those trail markers?

    • @thelongwaysbetter
      @thelongwaysbetter 3 месяца назад

      In my defence, the path up was unmodified, and the gorge bends to the right from that point, so I saw the sign but didn’t know to interpret it as ‘go straight up to the right’

    Nice one Don, there is a nice swimming hole just off the track around 10km before reaching KC that's great in warmer weather. Im thinking Jo and I camped near the slab where you did the drone shot at the end of the vid - we were right on the 3 kilometre limit. I remember having a small river flowing beneath the Duplex that night and being very thankful that the Dyneema floor didn't leak... good times😉

      Great choice of campsite... what an amazing spot! I know that area really well now because I thought I left the drone behind there and ran back to check for it, only to find out that I had put it down on the ground and got distracted when other people arrived near where the track goes between the domes 🤦
