Thanks! It is somewhat strange that it's named after a thing due to how it looks - with the thing being named after a person... There's also a Mt. Kosciusko (no Z, although ours didn't either until 1997) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Kosciusko_(Antarctica) in Antarctica that maybe I should have mentioned. Though that's named after Captain Henry M. Kosciusko of the US Navy - maybe he's some distant relative of Tadeusz? :P

For the chairlift up Kosciusko? We just parked in Thredbo, there's a big car park just down Friday Drive. The ski rental shop at Thredbo claims to have snow shoes for rental: www.thredbo.com.au/ski-snowboard-rental/ - maybe give them a call to confirm.
