    It is so difficult for me as a long time fan of Trent's music to see him 3 months before one of his worst overdoses. He was really masterful in hiding his addiction and self destruction to the public, but if you pay attention, you can tell that he was suffering. I can genuinely say that I'm extremely happy that he turned his life around and lives peacefully now. He is an inspiration to me as a musician.

    It's crazy how he used to be so awkward in interviews in the past, and now he seems so calm, very thoughtful, and wise in his contemporary interviews.

    IMHO, The Fragile is so much deeper than The Downward Spiral. It took me MONTHS to fully digest all the layers of that album - So full of subtle nuances. And when you finally 'appreciate' something, its very rewarding. For me, that album represents the height of his career. That 'vulnerability' he speaks of is palpable.

    • @comadrone_xix
      @comadrone_xix 5 лет назад +3

      Steve Paul - one of my favorite aspects of this album is that he uses th same composition on multiple songs and he uses different instruments on each composition. He mentioned he wrote th record like that so that each song can flow in and out of each song. And he wanted to revisit certain beautiful melodies into different environments and I think it turned out beautifully.

    • @Abruzzo333
      @Abruzzo333 3 года назад

      LOL no. There's a reason artists like Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Adrian Belew, Coil and many others connected to The Downward Spiral. There's a reason it sold double of any of his other releases. A reason it earned him soundtrack work with Oliver Stone and David Lynch. TDS is a timeless masterpiece. An influential album. The Fragile on the other hand is little more than watered down pop music....nothing special. Most people identify with that because most of the population live boring lives and seek comfort above all else. They want comforting, watered down music. They can't handle intensity or anything that's strange, or dark and distorted.....a true reflection of existence. The Fragile reflects where Trent was at 5 years after the success of TDS. Has everything he can ever want, no longer hungry. Happens to the best of them. Nine Inch Nails best releases are the TDS....and then Fixed at 2nd.

      @@Abruzzo333 dude, you’re being “that guy” with this comment. I don’t want to start a typical RUclips ugly argument that turns into nothing but insults etc, I just wanna stand up for my personal favorite album of all time. It struck a chord, it’s personal, saved my life, probably more than once. I definitely agree that TDS is THE SHIT, it’s right there by it’s side, and for the record, everything I’ve ever read about that time in his life was nothing like you’re saying. He almost died of an overdose, had to pour all of his own money into the tour because interscope wasn’t properly supporting it. I could go on, but I won’t for everyone’s sake. Just put some respect on it man, it’s a great album that still sounds brilliant today.

    I, as a nurse, do not believe he is suffering from withdraw in this interview. His pupils are not dilated nor constricted indicating no narcotics or stimulants. Notice that he is inconstant motion while he sits in the chair, for example crossing his arms. This indicates he is very uncomfortable. I would say he has agoraphobia or a fear of open spaces. I love Trent no mater what he has.... we all have something wrong whether physical or mental.

      Trent has NOT EVER done drugs. He is US Air Force, and they don't let you fly if you have EVER taken drugs. The reason he is uncomfortable is that he is doing the interview without any other band members, they have made him sit in the center of a circle of approx. 25 people, like "piggy in the middle". And someone asked him about a professional disagreement he had with a band member, and THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT.

Not being the ardent NIN fan as "N" was, and being seated far from the stage,I wasn't able to clearly see T.R's downward spiral.My descent began about nineteen months later.

Acid in the 60 and 70’s was better and more pure than anything after it and some even claim that it’s absolutely nothing like it now and that the acid now a days isn’t even acid, so is also an extinct drug. Cocaine was as pure as it would ever be in the 80’s and now you can’t find coke that hasn’t been cut with everything under the sun, even cut with fentanyl which a speck will kill you.
