The reason movies are so 'sexless' today is to relate to the, mostly male, audience. You need to see yourself in superman or batman. It becomes very hard for many people to do that if their superhero is slaying mega poon. For those looking to make counter-arguments against the incel/alt-right types I would recommend Kristen Ghodsee's 'Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism'. The anecdote Felix had about the kid from Denmark is explained very well by her work. The TLDR is that economic freedom leads to sexual freedom. People choose their partners based on 'love' and not on economics. The commodification of society leads to the commodification of sex.
@@alistairpage-mcgill2723 i think this and the fact that kids and families are the people seeing movies the most is the biggest reason why movies don’t have sex now
The failure to launch thing in relation to primary and secondary school students is likely. The Massive Resistance campaign against de-segregation of schools led to school closures in Virginia and some areas in other Southern states in 1958 and 1959. The idea was apparently that no-one should get an education if the segregationists couldn't have their way. They decided to scorch the earth and salt the fields. The result was that people born between 1947 and 1950 who lived in those areas at that time have a literacy rate 1 to 2% lower than students in the same areas born before 1947 and after 1950. Consequently, thousands of people born in those specific four years ended up illiterate as a direct result of the school closures. Illiteracy in a society where literacy is the norm will limit your opportunities.
This is an easy episode to pick on because it starts out with a 20 minute discussion of a stupid TikTok meme for 15 year olds, but there's simply a dearth of interesting things for them to discuss for the moment. The major narratives of the Biden/post-Trump era haven't really emerged in force yet, but with so many looming crises around the world that isn't likely to be the case for long. While do I wish they'd do something like movie reviews instead of this, obvious filler is far less bad than the asinine culture warfare that drives traffic most everywhere else in the media.
@@joshuamarx8209 lol fair, it's def been that way for a minute, but this ep feels like a new low. I vaaaaguely remember it being an interesting podcast at some point but that could just be nostalgia
@@bigburd875 I don't mind doomer. Being doomer is the honest response in the face of all the bleakness of our world but this episode just sucks. It's not entertaining at all and I like Chapo.
I love chapo, I’m a supporter, but I’ve had the feeling that things have taken a bit of a dive lately. I think they’re all kind of over it, but it’s their career and they make good bank. They’re having trouble filling time and it shows.
Felix's earnest discussion of the joys of intimacy is maybe the most thoroughly cursed moment in Chapo history.

Maybe also because that audience is so acclimated to porn, that any Hollywood sex scene is going to look laughably tame in comparison

im going to save america by redownloading grindr.
the literary world will be better with an Amber Frost book in it
It wouldn't be Chapo without an abrupt cutoff

Really good episode
🤣 I love the editing at the end there. Just CUT Katherine right off, mid sentence.
55:33 - Maybe society-wide depression...or anxiety about the future...?
Chapoborne 2 - fear the old blood
can't tell if the beginning segment about Amber's new book was satire or not.
seemed ironic but sincere, either way it was the funniest part of the podcast

What do you mean satire....? The book is really happening. If you thought her book ad was just funny and interesting... that was the point lol
I know it steps on the point but book Mordor did have slaves. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

I'd rather just have more of the Poppy series than whatever this is
I think the open was silly, but I thought they really got cooking by the time they started talking about sexless society

What happened to chapo :(
eh, he stumbled 3 times, if he fell hed get hurt cmon.
"Listen, fat! You try and sprint up some stairs after 70. I challenge you to a test of pectoral strength."
If he fell three times, they would have made that guy help him carry the cross.
