If you are wondering where did I see the differential lock being mentioned, it's in the official press release. You can find it on McLaren's website for example - www.mclaren.com/racing/team/mclaren-racing-and-the-lego-group-reveal-first-ever-lego-technic-mclaren-formula-1-race-car/
From what I've seen the Lego version simply has none... The CV joints drive the normal diff directly which in turns drives the V6 engine directly... I am excited about the new frames, they would be great for gearboxes and building stiff, compact frames or chassies.
I will be surprised if is it true, on this photo what you have showed there isn't
Magyar vagy? Akcentusból gondolom de ha nem így van szólj😂
@@johhnyking8753 magyar igen
Maybe there's a new piece included that one can stick into the differential, so that the inner gears are jammed??
As a first sight, the set looks really great and nice. As a big fan of F1, this set will be a must have for me. The only disappointment for me are the wet tyres with the same width on the front and rear. With slick tyres it would have been even better.
Fun of f1?
@@clipzz7868 surely you can figure out what he means, right...?
Absolutely Agree Love F1 and the set
They should have done this with RedBull racing.
But it has that tread pattern because of Legos, so that's why they are Wets! Great detail
I'm personally itching to change out those god awful "wet" tires with the more traditional treaded tires of the same size that Lego has. I still don't understand why they don't have slick tires produced yet. They have a whole line dedicated to race and high performance cars, which mostly use slicks and they just throw treaded tires on them. It's annoying as someone that really pays attention to detail.
I think Lego should implement differential lock is most Technic sets, only Zetros and this one have diff lock
A differential lock would be interesting
I think lego missed the oportunity to bring back Technik minifigs, I got my gipes up at the opening video, where they said: And where is the driver? And I hoped for driver number stickers choice.
im already a mclaren f1 fan
i HAVE to get this
awesome video as usual dude, i so wish i was you and get all the newst stuff immediately eheh :D
Set looks amazing and i love the colors of it. Sadly no hand of god steering :/. I am waiting for review of it
Yea.. no hog steering feels like a deal breaker to me. It'll feel more like only a display model than a model to play with. Sad.
Yeah, they couldve used the camera pod or something for it to be hidden but no.
We could still have hand of god steering. There is a rod that connects the front end steering to the steering wheel, so it isn't hard to believe that there is also a gear on the back, or a key you can insert into the top and use (I think Lego has done the key thing before).
For some people it will ruin the look but I want to play with 179 euros come on man
@@Crummieboi56 OH GOOD IDEA YESSS
As someone who likes supercars more I don’t think I will buy it
I always think these are overpriced for what they are…. But still want them 😂😂
Don’t get how this is the 2022 style car but on the back it has pictures from the 2021 car
Because there was no 2022 car yet to put on the box?
I tried to count the stickers and come to 49 pieces, which is in my eyes almost too much, even if you have to consider the vehicle is large. for 130€ I find it acceptable, but 180 I do not pay for it
Yes true
Wait a couple of months and the price will drop significantly
I'd like to see how the car looks without the hub cap discs on them. Otherwise, looks great.
The wheel covers are on the real car so it's just for originality i guess
Would look weird as the tires are really fat
What if you just cut out the parts in the sticker and put them on the tyre instead of the cover, that would work I guess
That tire would look very out of place without the cover
I want it
Amikor egy játék előbb jelenik meg mint az igazi autó 🤣 nagyon jól néz ki!
Csak , hát a matricák...
Awsome
Slightly disappointed if I’m being honest. I was hoping for something a little higher spec, and this is not it. Looks a bit basic with the large technic parts, weird tyre choice, and simplified wings. A bit like the Ducati motorcycle model, when I was hoping for something more like the BMW bike.
4:55 shouldn't it be a pull rod suspension?
Beautiful but too expensive. $180 without any gearbox are unacceptable. Lego designer can simply adding high speed or low speed gear on it. High speed gear will also enable DRS function on back wing will be perfect and match the $180 price tag.
Il be honest I’m not overly impressed. It looks unfinished especially the front hood sweep- why didn’t they just cover up the exposed holes with curved pieces, jury is out on this till I physically see one. Great review as always
I think it looks great!
I'm a big McLaren fan so I will have to get a hold of one of these sets.
There are a few things that make it look like a cross between the 2021 and 2022 car so it's not quite accurate for either year but the overall look of the set is still great and I can't wait to build it.
Does anyone know whether this will be an exclusive set to Lego stores and Lego online or will other stores be selling this set as well?
Most likely a lego exclusive.
@@Crummieboi56 thanks
You can already preorder it on several sites so I'm sure it's not LEGO exclusive - www.brickmerge.de/42141-1_lego-technic-mclaren-formel-1-rennwagen
@@RacingBrick thanks for your reply. I might wait for it to come on sale at a retailer in Australia before I purchase it then.
I'd love to get it on March the 1st but I've spent too much on Lego lately, as I'm sure we all have 😂

This looks awesome. Not entirely sure if I'd get it though
This model is absolutely failed to my mind
I like the suspension and the details and they did well with the shape of the car. However, they really should've come up with some new tires for this and a gearbox would've been nice. I think I'm going to get the speed champions F1 set this time because I feel like it brings more to an F1 fan than this set.
I have the set your talking about. Its rly nice and for the scale very good looking. I would love to have a redbul or petronas amg big technic model. Would be amazing
the tread pattern of those tyres does really look like the full wets at least as opposed to the speed champions one
But full wet session is really rare these days. I think last year, it's only at SPA? And we all know what happened then :(
@@jkliao6486 i mean yes, all I said was that the tread pattern of the lego tyres matched the actual wet tyres
They printed P Zero(meant for slicks) on a "wet" tyre though. There's quite a lot of details missing.
@@eniscc well yes it should be cinturato but all I talked about was the tread pattern not the text and in my opinion the text is less important than the colour for a quick glance
@@emiliskog I think both are as important as it's a special edition and a technic product so I think we have the right to expect these small details
The fact that we're getting an awesome looking F1 car in Technic is enough for me! So excited for this!
Thanks for the insights! 🙂
They definitely HAD HAD HAD to create slicks for this set. If an Asian company does this for 80€, that is fine. But for a supposedly premium product by Lego, that is just a sign of pure greed by the company.
and surely LEGO had the capacity to do it, being the largest tire manufacturer in the world...
Honestly, the look of the car is kind of disappointing to me. I know this is lego and it's not easy to create flowing lines but this is too angular.
God, it looks hideous. The concept car is a long swooping curve of a shape. Replicating that with LEGO parts is almost futile, but I'm sure that some talented MOC designer could have done a way better job than this. Also, 180 bucks for 1400 pieces? No gearbox?? What were they thinking?
Judging from the photo at 7:12 there also seem to be 5x7 frames in orange built in, I don't think these were available before, right?
Yeah, that's the same thing I noticed, I do believe they are new.
179,99 for a car with no functions at all? Do you remember set 8070? Only saing that Technic is about functions... 🙄 But it seems to me people are just willing to spend money for anything.
So it's clear to me that if it's not available as a recession copy, then it will definitely stay on the shelf until there are interesting offers. In my opinion, at first glance and only from the photos, I say that Lego can certainly do better. I have no idea what the Danes are doing there again.
The halo looks nice? It sucks in my opinion. Takes the design down and is very awkward. Also hate the fact they didn't use slicks...
I have the Silver Champion and to this day I think it's the best F1 that Lego has realeased. I thought about buying this Mclaren but I'm not sure if I like it this much.
Untill now nothing beats the Silver Champion ...
I have the Williams BMW version and it's still displayed to this day. What a beautiful design. This one doesn't come close, despite the modern pieces.
@@Joramee I've got the tripple ... The Williams, The Silver Champion and the Ferrari ... The McLaren one doesn't come close :-)
I actually like the Grand Prix Racer (the most recent set), it had essentially the same functionality and specialised pieces as all of those bigger sets, but in something way more affordable. It meant you could try and build any F1 car you wanted as long as you had the panel pieces from another technic set, which is honestly what Lego is about. The set itself also didn't look that bad for its price.
The 42000 is a good set too. I really like it because of its details and colour scheme and it has at least some technical functions.
I don't think anybody noticed but, on the side panel that the McLaren text is seen, the middle in the a is not centered
I wish comments had a photo feature where you can send pictures in a good way.
It’s pretty weird
I don't like that it's a hybrid beetween the 2021 and 2022 car, so it's not an accurate repersentation of the real F1 car. For me it's a pass.
black frame 11x15 it seems that they did not exist before
If i compare it with the 8674 F1 1:8 Ferrari model from 2006... this one looks kind of dull. They tried to close all surfaces where the 8674 leaves it open. That makes the look a lot more aggressive and impressive...
Btw... the tires of the 8674 model are also same size for front and rear. It's not a big thing.
For me this is a really bad replica on the looking perspective, but it might include some interesting functions so I am looking forward.
About the look, front wing is nice, but the central section proportions are off for me. The air intake is too big and the engine cover looks too fat and low. Sidepods aren't any better either, actually it seems like there aren't any air intakes at all. Halo shapes is also very different from the real one. The rear section looks very messy too and the rear wing seems unfinished and as you told it's too flat. I feel like this set has a big modding potential though. I can't wait to see your review and hopefully I'll change my opinion 😅
You use whatever you are provided with
It’s a LEGO interpretation, not a scale plastic Tamiya model.
@@harlanchinn8121 True, but other cars like the Sian have been replicated better, so in my opinion this f1 can be heavily improved
Very excited for this set, I was also very suprised by the way the technic F1 car build that's in the video. As a big fan this is really a must have for me, hopefully Lego will add more detailed versions as a exact replica in the future. That would be very awesome.
Yeeesss, i've been waiting for this video for so long and i am suuper excited!!
Im also intrigued by what diff lock system Lego use and to me despite some differences to the actual 2022 car it looks awesome. Trouble is it's wider at 27cm than my 25cm shelving 🤷🏼♂️🤣
I have a glass (forgot the word but imagine stacked glad boxes) and my cars are to big for it, i just put them up a various angles and build stands for them so I can shove them in
@@JesusIsTruthAndWayAndLife you seem to be very confident about it, you already built the set? :)
The tyres are very off-putting they are a very big part of the overall look of the car... Lego needs to update their part list
They won't tho, probably because the tyres won't be used in anything else. We all know what Lego are like...
Szia Balázs! Nagyon szépen beszélsz angolul, nagyon jól összeszedted! Köszi!
Looks cool. would like to have seen a transmission at this point. I have the silver champion, and it is a brilliant build during the transition period between bricks and beams.
Where did you see anything about a lock differential?
It's in the press release, you can see e.g. at brickset - brickset.com/article/70587/technic-mclaren-formula-1-race-car-revealed!
One of the best looking sets I have ever seen at this size.
It's a shame it's only got the full wet tires
I don't like it tbh. The nose and halo feel rough, the wheel sides are pretty bad for an official model. Colouring may be right but it feels really like a part donor set than a flagship set...
3:39 ah yes, finally a toilet paper roll element.
Well from what you showed, its not a very technic, technic set.It does not have very many technic features compared to other sets. I think $179 is on the expensive side considering the lack of technic features .It should have $149 that would make more sense.I have to agree those tires don’t look right on this car.Pass for me,I am glad this was not the super car,we still have that to look forward too
It looks like there's also a new connector piece that holds the two new panel pieces on the rear wing at their shown angles.
I can't wait to see the German RUclipsrs tear this piece of overpriced, featureless, wrong tire-train wreck apart.
Yes and rework it with some proper German engineering hahaha
@@victorhansen839 it'd be nice to see those guys actually reworking anything instead of simply bashing whatever is released by LEGO...
@@RacingBrick I think that`s their point. You pay 179,99$/€ and then you still have to rework it.
@@audu4081 you don't have to, only if you are not happy about it. You'd be surprised to see how many people are totally happy with the Ferrari 488, the set that was bashed to death by those nice Geman guys. LEGO is targeting the masses with these 18+ sets and not the hardcore Technic fans. I don't say I like everything they make, but there are reasons behind certain design choices.
@@RacingBrick Yeah but "those nice German guys" are often old school Lego fans. So they know that Lego can do better and did so in the past. Just because Lego sells sets like the Ferrari 488 (which a lot of die hard Lego fans hated on) doesnt mean they can not criticise Lego`s price policy. I mean come on - 179,99$ for a display model without functions and a lot of stickers? Thats 12,5ct/ (technic-) piece. I still like this set but they should`ve either went for more functions or for more display details (Slick tyres, prints, etc.)
I think this should have just been an un-licensed race car set. It doesn't look like the 2022 McLaren, because it's been designed without knowing what that car will look like, and it doesn't look like the 2021 McLaren other than the color scheme, because the shape is based on the generic 2022 F1 concept car. Will it sell more because it says McLaren on the box? I'm not sure. Even as somewhat of a McLaren fan myself.
This looks like a great set, but I don't think I will buy it. I designed my own F1 car a few months ago that I made from the Land Rover set with suspension, an 8-speed transmission, a V6-engine, and many more things... so I was hoping this McLaren F1 racer would also offer at least a gearbox or some other cool mechanisms. Thanks for making this video!
I'd say it's sorta 20/21-ish car with some details - front and rear wing and winglets over the front wheels - to make it resemble a 22 season car. Nose profile clearly indicates that. Looks like 2022 cars will have more gently sloping nose without that clear bend in the front suspension area.
And yet another missed opportunity on tyres... Well, it's close enough.
But still it's an F1 car and not any car, but a McLaren! I'll close my eyes on it's downsides, I'm getting one!
Where did you get the cases / shelves in the background? I need to come up with a storage / display solution before I continue growing my collection.
Lol, I recently asked that same question. They are from IKEA. ✌🏻
Useful video, thanks. I shall probably give this a pass - too many dislikes for me. The tyres (width and treads), the engine (just boring now - they need to improve how they model cylinders and pistons), and that halo - to me it just looks so clunky. Hopefully something better is still to be announced.
It's not bad looking, the Technic line is definitely getting better. However the wheels/tires are laughably small for this scale. LEGO should stop with the open wheels cars until they can get the whole package in the correct scale. Plus this is based on the generic 2022 F1 design and not the actual car which isn't being revealed until February 11th.
Darn this will be an expensive one.
The next 180€ disappointment from Lego. The Halo and the tires looks ungly as f.No technic funktion. Lego becomes a dead Brand for me...and i hope the ppl will wake up soon
Maybe it's appropriate to the real car, but my god, I hate the orange and blue colour scheme... it ruined the Tow Truck set for me and almost ruins this one, although it does look like a good set
FUN FACT:CAME ACROSSA RUclipsR(YPM) WHO BOUGHT THIS LEGO , HOWEVER SAYS THAT THAT HE DOSENT LIKE TO BUILD LEGOS, BUT RATHER GET IT ASSEMBLED FROM SOME ONE....CAN U IMAGINE...SHESSH
The Grand Prix du Canada in Montreal this past weekend so I took it apond myself to build my car too. Just the airbox and halo to go, and only had to fix one connection when I went to add the mirror on the left side. Easy fix. I will be looking for different tires for this car with smaller or lower profiled ones in the front to use with less tread on them - them add the proper stickers to them = Red / Yellow / White
I from Hong Kong. I might buy it. Next week, I will buy 42110. I will give it to my nephew. He love LEGO.
250 parts less than the Ferrari for the same price...The Tyres dont fit at all...the Stickers dont match the colour in the photos...Im a big F1 and Lego Fan but i think ill pass on this one
When a "McLaren F1 LEGO set" was announced, I was thinking the 3-seater. So a bit disappointed now. :(
Such a trash set. It only looks acceptable because of the 1000 stickers. A F1 car is not made for a Lego technic set, lots of holes in the car. And then the price.....
The only and absolutely the only part i don't like about the set is the way they have designed the halo. I feel there was a lot of flexibility in making that as the set already has a lot of custom made parts in it so making a more "streamlined" Halo shoudlnt have been a big problem. Otherwise, love it and will get it for sure
Lego did not share anything official. The Lego car for example has a push rod suspension in ghe front, while the real one will have a pull rod suspension. This shows that Lego did not know more about the car the we do.
Enjoyed your video, but sadly I'm not impressed with the car. The price is shocking also.
I think there is no diff clock
Do you notice that this model do not match the 2022 colors of real McLaren?
Did you notice when I mentioned that this model has the 2021 livery intentionally? :)
No I miss that! 😅
Or Better, only now I fully understead this fact! So this Is a model of a non-existing F1 car😓
For 150, this is the best display piece yet for this year. Screw technical elements, just give me appropriate dimensions and use that gearbox money to replicate actually interesting, unique features of the car. Basically every car has a gearbox, but not many have an active wings or moving panels
I think the amount of stickers is really bad, we all know what happens with stickers over time, after that it‘ll really look bad…
Not the greatest to see wet tires and not any of the slicks. Im also not a fan of the Pirelli markers on the hubs of the wheels and not on the tire. For $180 i think this a huge let down compared to its other technic “brothers”
differential lock might just be a sliding axle connecting or not the two wheel axles, probably nothing too fancy
At 1400 pieces ... this is a buzz kill. Buzz Killington, where are you bud?
Quite underwhelming if I'm honest. Too much display, not enough technology.
The new Mc claren is different one color perspective ! Really reflective orange almost saying 90 percent of the car is that color
Initially disappointing but reserved judgment for the real deal, too bad about the wheels!
Why look at the photos when I can just watch your video? Hehe
I was waiting for this vidéo since I see the post on Instagram 😁 thank you for your reactivity 👍🏻
I would like a Mercedes f1 car more but mclaren is also nice .i don't like the rain tires but Overall its a nice set
I really don't like the "nose" of the car: looking at it from the side it seems "empty" with respect to the real car
Here for the “FASTER THAN CURRENT MCLAREN…” comments
McLaren F1, Ford F150 Raptor, BMW M 1000 RR... Hold on, I'm poor.
its better than the other McLaren set they did, this one actually has a differential, and it at least has better functions, but its still a display set
65cm is the lengh f Sliver Champion/Williams F1. Nice.
This thing could have been a huge oppurtunity for a grat set... well it isnt hahaha
Why is it so expensive. More then last year’s Ferrari. With close to 200 less pieces.
I won't be buying it.. hardly any Features and the tires Look weird
Am I the only one put off by those *huge* panel pieces? I like sleek designs, and this car can't be too heavy in those areas, but it kind of takes away from the experience when you build one third of a super huge technic car's wing or side body with one panel. The set looks great otherwise, and I'm glad that they still gave it some suspension. Completely agree that the tire width and style is a bit annoying though.
It's either big panels or small panels with gaps. Both give an excellent opportunity to complain ;)
@@RacingBrick I prefer smaller pieces that make up a complex shape, to a larger piece that simplifies the structure. Most modern technic sets with large panels like these just look inconsistent in their detail. I suppose I overreacted for the front wing, as it is a very difficult shape to get right, and the result looks fine, but the other uses of that piece in this set just seem unnecessary.
@@12171010011010 there's a difficult balance between look, part availability, production cost, etc. The first thing people notice is obviously the look, and that is very much a personal preference. But in this case for example a lot of people will be happy with those panels in blue and black, since they were not available previously. From a production perspective I'm sure TLG tries to optimize the variety of parts included in a single model, that's also a factor to consider.
@@RacingBrick Yeah, I'm not making a criticism on the production process or the designer, just the final product. I appreciate when there is a variety of pieces and new colours. I just dislike when Lego makes a new piece that is directly or indirectly too specialised, and having extremely large smooth unusually shaped panels is just unappealing to me because once you have the freedom to build your own models, parts like them are rarely a necessity. In contrast, those new angled panels seem more useful for making complex shapes that weren't previously possible, and they are used very appropriately in this set.
Btw, this is off topic, but do you think this set has front suspension? I'm pretty sure there is something in the back, but the front build looks a bit simplistic and hard to see.
@@12171010011010 you can see the front suspension in action at 4:44. I think the setup should be very similar to 42000 both at the front and at the back.
faaaark now i dont know what to buy myself for my bday in march out of this or the bmw bike 😅
These new modern technic sets feel very low effort, the 24h lemans car has more features
Never thought Yuki Tsunoda is McLaren's test driver
Is the car drive able, whith te Technic+ app. Or not?
