    Why do we do x=0.1 at 21:27
    We have to estimate 1.025^8 so we want the 1 + x/4 = 1.025, which we can solve to find we need to put x = 0.1

      L1 has the equation y = 4x/5 + 2. S is the point where L1 crosses the x-axis, therefore y = 0. Substitute y = 0 for y = 4x/5 + 2. 4x/5 = -2. 4x = -10. x = -10/4 = -2.5

      haii if you're talking about the IAL Pearson Edexcel one, the P1 (pure mathematics 1) book as well as P2 (pure mathematics 2) are considered AS, and then P3 and P4 for A2/A-levels. They are 4 different books.. 2 for each level with a combination of mechanics (M1) or statistics (S1) but that depends on your school or educational system
      so ask your teacher to make sure about this

      You are told point of intersection of lines has x coord of 5, so subst this into the equation of the line given to find y = 6 so point of intersection is (5, 6). So equation of perpendicular line is (y - 6)=m(x - 5)

    At 3:06 how do you figure out x. Is it just through logic or do you have to do some sort of dividing.

    • @tonydebling
      @tonydebling  2 года назад +1

      2^x = 1/8 = 2^(-3), so x= -3

    • @tonydebling
      @tonydebling  2 года назад

      In general, to solve a^x = k, you take log(to the base a) of both sides, which gives x log(base a) a = log(base a)k, as log(base a) a = 1, then x = log(base a) k. In this case you can see what x must be by observation as in earlier comment.
