Re-ments and Nendoroids are like the best kind of Kirby figures, and I never knew they made that type of classic Sonic merch. It's too bad some of the gifts are still stuck in Japan, but still a fun haul.

I once ordered a nearly $500 Anniversary Blythe doll from Mandarake in Japan and hoo boy were the Canada Post mail staff questioning that and the $100 customs fee I had to pay at their office 😅 Takara pricing for their Sanrio Collab dolls can get real pricey. I do recall they made the Blythe x My Melody only available in Japan stores and not to the authorized sellers in Asia.

UPS hit me with a huge fee (I think it was $60 CAD) to do simple paperwork to clear my 17" Snow White from ShopDisney US through customs. There is no customs fee on dolls from the US to Canada, so that fee was just for filling out a very simple form. One of our news channels did a story on this issue, and apparently we can refuse immediate delivery and go to the government office to clear it ourselves. However, that is a hassle. I have ordered more Disney dolls from Disney UK, which uses a different shipper, and I will have to confirm my statement, but it doesn't look like there was any extra charge. I can only imagine the millions of dollars UPS is making worldwide collecting these fees, which are way above the time it actually takes to do the processing.
Yup :( they charged me for the “courtesy” of holding my package for two weeks without asking for the info they “needed” and I guess for the “paperwork” Ridiculous. It’s the second time it’s happened now and I’ll just pay the extra to go with FedEx from now on
omg you finally mentioned the pikmin kuji!! i was wondering when you would bring it up. as a fellow pikmin enthusiast i was there for the launch, constantly checking mercari japan for the entire day. things were selling out left and right. I ordered the blanket literally five times. on the fifth try the order actually went through they were selling out that fast. The set is 100% worth it. Might get doubles of the glasses and plates for display also the story behind the pikmin figurines remind me of my childhood. my mom also let me look at expensive video game toys on ebay as a treat too lol glad to know other people did this too! those figures are 100% worth it no matter how tiny they are.
It was between the Agatsuma and the Kuji (I was hunting the Kuji all together in one lot but ended up finding the Agatsuma and was like… oh lord. Bid it up like $100 more than it already was and managed to snag it. At the cost of the Kuji… Now I’m worried haha. Need to go check on that now… I wanted to decorate my office with it all
@@xCanadensis I think the agatsuma was a great choice honestly! I swear I never see that listed. I bought most of the kuji pieces separately and I realized after the fact it would be cheaper to get them in a lot.... oops. I'm still missing some of the smaller pieces and the yellow pikmin pillow (he's doing the little idle lay!! like omg!!! 😭) . the pillow and blanket are really comfortable (but small) and the glasses are literally my life. I honestly hope for Pikmin 4 they'll do another kuji with the white pikmin, purple pikmin, and the captains (They never get merch I love them). I haven't checked mercari japan recently for the sake of my wallet, but I think the set is still easy to find. When I did it, it was literally the first hour in the middle of the night.
Import charges suck. In Canada anything over $20 cad can be hit. If it’s from USA or Mexico then under $40 it’s tax free and under $150 it’s duty free but not tax free. With carriers like UPS you are always hit. If it’ ships via the local post in that country it will be delivered by Canada Post and rarely gets hit, especially if the value is under $100 cad.
The day you posted this we actually celebrate the three wise men here in Mexico (and i believe in some other latin american countries as well) and people give gifts on this day as well. So technically the packages arrived on like the very last holiday of the season 😅

As someone from an EU-country, customs are really the worst. We have to pay customs on EVERYTHING. And they're extremely strict on it. That's why I've been choosing Fed-Ex ever since as they don't even care when the value is extremely low, they'll just charge a couple of euros instead of asking for proof and such, so I'd have to pay hundreds for customs... The only problem I have with FedEx is that they take AGES to send their customs letters (I got my August one in November 🤡)
Have you considered making a video about buying from Japan and how proxy services work? It's something that I am interested in but don't know anything about.
I feel you on the expensive anime dolls that are also fragile, I have a Death Note figure of Light by Medicom and their plastic is so brittle the poor guy is broken in 3 places
