I ALWAYS watch your vids to the end 😊Sometimes I wake up to a dead phone with my headphones still on, but at least it played all the way through! Then I have to go back later to rewatch so I don’t feel like I missed it. As for questions/suggestions:
I know you’re very busy but maybe you can teach us a few things as you’re doing them, eg. how you make a fire and put it out, how you identify what you forage and how you preserve it, how you handle wildlife that gets too close, how to ‘leave no trace’ etc. Speak to us like we’re completely clueless because some of us really are and would need a guide or mentor. I can tell how much work this is and you can’t really take time off. I love that you don’t to click bait or gaudy misleading thumbnails. You are genuine. And talented. I like the variety of topics you share because it is interesting to see all aspects of your unique style of Vanlife. I’m glad viewers help you with Frank and your van. And you don’t have to stoop to the fake scenarios that some do. All creators work hard, I’m not criticizing. I appreciate that keeping simple is important to you more than going big. That was super interesting, thanks for talking with us about all the things you piece together to make this a sustainable career. Man alive, there are so many stunning video clips you shared with us. Those northern lights were so beyond the norm! Frankie breathing deeply, drifting into sleep with his lil tongue peeking out is so sweet. This was a great looking video and I love that you gave us those wonderful images to look at as you kept talking. Oh, one more comment: I don't feel anything negative or boring when you interject with a promotion for a sponsored product. The main reason is that you never promote something you wouldn't buy yourself, and second, you're very transparent about explaining from time to time how these sponsor deals help sustain your living costs. There are some RUclipsrs who promote every product that comes along and I don't waste my time with those channels.

I think almost anything can be made interesting in film with editing and a good soundtrack and/or voice over. Even things like watching you edit your video, answer emails/write patreon posts, talk to sponsors, or filling envelopes. Whole videos of that could get boring, but giving a taste here and there wouldn't hurt, I think.

Holy crap...I didn't realize how much time you spend editing. At 27.23 or abouts you were picking some leaves that looked like raspberries. I have a bush type thing that the leaves look like this but I got it half dead from my brother and he doesn't know what it is of course lol! Are they raspberry leaves? Another question...do we need to watch the entire ad on your videos for you to get money?
😆 it’s a lot, especially because I don’t make short videos. Ideally I would be able to afford to make less video but put even more time into them and learn new editing tricks but right now I’m trying to balance creative enjoyment and actually making money.

Print on demand companies do usually offer direct printing and shipping to the customers so you don’t have to do that. You can even ad a personal message with each order.
I've ordered merchandise from Junkyard Fox. James Harris is the creator specializing in desert bushcraft. I've bought a beanie, coffe mugs and several stickers. Quality and service was excellent. I think his margins must be decent because he has fairly regular sales.

oh ! YAY harvesting nettles, so yummy and so good for you. I tried them this spring, by making them into my own fettuccine, it was work rolling it thin, but i made a nice Alfredo sauce, to top my cooked noodles and it was amazing. i have also made it into tea, it takes the stress of the day away, very nice and relaxing. foraging is so much fun, glad to see some one interested in it too ! Good video !
How does the income tax part work? Do you just do the Canadian taxes or do you have to claim US as well? (I remember a ytuber mention they had to do taxes in both countries because of the income from super chats during the lives that were from US subscribers).Would income from patron work that way too?

do a video on your power system, cause 4 grand is alot. you are such a smart woman, that isnt always showcased so do more of these videos teaching us stuff, i already know i want the same van for cheap plentiful parts tho i wonder about the gas consumption. a 6 or 8 valve van takes close to what my schoolie prob use in diesal but van much smaller for parking. :)
38:44 - he really isn’t one of my favorite RUclipsrs but Chrome on vancity vanlife had some real issues with quality when he went through a third party to the point where he got angry and took it over himself. Right now he is still having another company print his merch but he is inspecting and shipping it himself. He is actually working on setting up a shop and buying the equipment to produce his own, in the future so he can insure quality. Once he does that, his shop might be a good one to contract with.

This was a great update. About halfway through I thought "oh, Amanda is an entrepreneur!" While there were times when I thought I wanted to do YT, the more I learn about it the less I think it would suit my nature or interests. I've had this bad relationship with RUclips. I have another channel with almost 10K subs, monetized for 5 years and it feels like I've been blocked online as time wore on. It makes me some money every month but my latest video on that channel was a huge eye opener for me. I can't spend the hours it takes to make pennies again. I will always enjoy filming and creating. I'm just going to spend more time doing what I want to do, opposed to doing what I think the algorithm wants out of me. That BS is over lol. Thanks for sharing.
Yes create for you, the algorithm is a cruel and mysterious mistress 😂 it’s always changing. One day it’s happy with you and next there’s no doing anything right. Infinitely frustrating. It’s definitely a grind but at least if you create what you feel stoked on you’ll always have that and who knows maybe that will end up doing better in the long run.

My other channel is monetized and it is basically a full-time job if you plan on getting anywhere. I don't have any sponsors at this time so all my money is from RUclips ads or a purchase from my website. Last month was my best month ever and I almost made $200 but this month is doing a bit below average with only $20 estimated earnings. Just bought a couple stickers also.

Another RUclipsr mentioned to, "Watch the videos all the way to the end. It makes a difference in the algorithms!!!" So, I do that now!
Also, I listen to the ads for atleast 10 to 15 seconds beyond the 5 or 10 seconds of when the 'Skip Video' sign comes up. You get money this way! If it is an obnoxious ad, or I've heard it too many times ... I turn the volume down. Or, I let the ad play out - I leave the room to get something, or I'm cooking, or something else.

I used to video kids when they were younger . Ballet, sports, plays, etc. I realized I wasn’t actually enjoying the events. I often wonder how much YT’s like yours & Foresty Forest enjoy the actual journey. Cameras, angles, lighting & editing. Does it take away from the beauty?

Thanks for taking the time to inform us Amanda. I've seen people grow their channels very rapidly with just some video and mostly vlogging but it was a very niche subject matter. Your visual content is wonderful. I'm retired now but had my own different businesses (four of them) over 37 years. I know how much work is involved and how important different income streams are. You seem to be humming along and understand what you need but I know it's a plate spinning act. If you ever want to bounce ideas off me I would love to help with anything. My business experience involved wholesale/retail craft, retail store ownership, small production manufacture, etc. I think you could push a little more with new sticker ideas--I have some! My shop worked with a lot of quality vendors some of which were t-shirts, cards, and stickers. I don't know if it's an issue to be in Canada and trying to order from a U.S. distributor even for drop shipping. But I could give you names if interested.

Here's a thought (it's just a thought, I'm not trying to tell you how to run your business.) since you said something to the effect of you kind of just make up the price for sponsorships and you're more likely to do them when truck needs repairs, why not double that price as research the next time you have a sponsor offer you might like. If it's accepted, you'll know you can charge more and may not be in the position to need to do them as often. If it isn't accepted, you could probably still negotiate to the price that you would otherwise be happy with. If the companies are taking your first offer, you are probably leaving money on the table. Again, just sort of thinking out loud here.

Thank you, I've learned much from you in this and other videos plus I love your photography, wandering lifestyle, and the landscapes you share. Also happy with LMNT. I've recently attained 1000 subscribers starting my third year as a RUclips content creator. Learning videography and editing seemed the natural next step after storytelling all my life, taking photographs since childhood, living on the road over 30 years, blogging 16 years, and retiring after 30 years as an Interpretive Park Ranger. I enjoy the challenge of this new to me media, about one hour editing for every minute of finished video wondering if it takes everyone that long. I am using Movie Maker as I don't want to buy or have to be online. Don't particularly like marketing myself so Patreon seems a better fit than YTmembership. Like the idea of communication with patrons. Would struggle with sponsors as not much of a consumer. Prefer a personal touch. Thanks again for sharing and being you. Scratches for Frank.

I know myself and I would never be able to stick with it, but I'm just incredibly curious as to the nuts and bolts. Like, how does one keep the camera from jiggling as it moves? And views of the road when driving? Do you wear a camera stuck on your head while you drive?😂

So much depth in this video. Obviously you put your 40 hr work week in just the planning and outlining and writing and reworking drafts etc; just for this brilliantly organized and thoroughly followed through on single episode of basically a RUclips University class.
