Have you ever experienced imposter syndrome?

I️ loved the video, as I️ knew I️ would. I️ want to say that I’ve felt imposter syndrome the past few weeks. And when I had my second look event last week, a bunch of my prospective classmates felt the same. As I️ mentioned before, the leaders there told everyone in their opening remarks that they are meticulous in their decision making process and that they know what they are doing. Their words: “we did not make a mistake when we chose you.” That helped a lot. I’m glad you touched on mental health, because at the event a lot of my classmates were asking plenty of questions on the available resources and it just wasn’t something I️ personally thought about, mostly because I’m so used to overcoming obstacles just because of coming from a low SES background, being an immigrant from the Caribbean, it (stress) just comes with the territory. Also, being from a primarily Spanish speaking background, I️ knew most people were not from my ethnic group. But I’m glad I️ found a good fit and so far expect a positive experience. I️ know it is going to be incredibly stressful, but I️ was happy to learn their is a derm focused Program for underrepresented in medicine students at my school and I plan to apply to that first semester.
I️ actually have a question and perhaps you might consider doing a video on it in the future: global medicine research/outreach opportunities specifically derm related ? I’m curious was your take on that is? I️ know you did work outside the US from your other videos where you talk about things that helped balance out your residency application. Is there a space for that for derm aspiring applicants, and how would you “guide” us on that route. I️ plan to reach out to advising in the fall, but perhaps you have insight on it, and might be a fun video for the future!
    Thanks!

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. Mental health is super important to pay attention to through out medical training, even for those of us who are used to stress. So far sounds like you are at a great program, that's so awesome! I can make a video touching on my global health experience, although I do feel like it may no longer be relatable since it was before COVID. I have no clue what things are like in regards to global health right now.
