Would be nice to see China have a greater understanding and appreciation for what Sg brought to China. Deng decided to open China up after seeing how we managed to advance so quickly, and this industrial park collaboration soon followed after. This isn't to say China owes us anything or that we should be credited for what China is today, but it would be good if it became more known to the Chinese the part we played in their history.
We only credited Mr.Lee Kuan Yew as a great man helping China in the past but not Singapore's foreign policy today as the US lapdog.....2016 SCS dispute and fully support Ukraine in 2022.
@@jimmylam9846By Western standards, Singapore is a great violator of so called human rights. They are afraid of US overthrowing the PAP regime under excuse of so called human rights and lack of democracy. This explain why they need to accept the role of lap dog.

China and US are Singapore's leading trading partners. The difference is the trade balance - surplus of $55b with China and deficit of $9b with the US.

There would be better accountability and transparency if annual profit margins for Suzhou and Tianjin Industrial Parks are disclosed to all Singaporeans.
Thanks to have this documentary. This is very good example of what cantonese said " have trainee, no master"..Singapore trained Suzou to replace Singapore😅. CCP have a big laugh.
Oh lastChang, not sure if you're indian, pinoy or American wanabee. But could be likely an indian troll. Maybe you should watch about your clean the air first in your capital city before even commenting about China. Lol.
@lastChang luckily the Singaporeans are fortunate enough to reduce their stake in the SIP so now they are able to stand and watch what happens to China without too much worries as they’re no longer major players. 😛
Looks like SG hasn't learnt the lessons from this saga. Was the project a success in terms of collaboration with PRC? No amount of spinning can change the fact that SG got a raw deal.
My good chum it is the most elementary of motives; self interest. Singaporean companies own stakes in a lot of the properties and companies, which they got to set up under some beneficial policies such as discounted land, lower taxes, etc etc. Singapore benefits when those companies and properties generate value. Which essentially means that both are on the same line.
Lee Kuan Yew stepped down from PM in 1990, then took on the role of developing a "second-wing" for Singapore. Think of it like expanding our geographical land, but overseas. Initial stake was 65% and China 35%. The local officials sabotaged the project and LKY complained openly all the way to Beijing. Then Singapore reduced its stake from 65% to 35% instead of pulling out entirely. Once China got back 65% all the "problems" were removed. Singapore learned a hard lesson at the government level of doing business with China.
@@solaris5655 Exactly! Honestly cannot trust the Chinese in terms of business collaboration, most will try and cut you out eventually. Been working and living in China for 15+ years, about 6 years in Suzhou, watching the SIP changing from an industrial/economics based concept to a residential heavy reality, a direct reflection of what the Chinese wants: Fast Money!!! Also seeing the SND area slowly grinding towards an eventual downfall, exacerbated by the terrible economic factors in China post-COVID and ongoing geopolitical & economic tensions. Somehow, knowing that SND will eventually fail kind of make me smile inside 😂 😂

really interesting partnership between china and singapore . Hope both countries can maintain a good and strong relationship in long coming future
Good example of win-win cooperation in spite of ideology differences
