Nighthawk Customized Colt's Pre-War Government Model- My "First" Custom

  • Continuing down the path of some of my first handguns, this 1919 Colt's Government Model may be one of the most important. It was my first custom gun, my first pre-war Colt's, and the first gun I ever considered to be an "heirloom" piece. In the wake of a dismal "graduation due to the world shutting down, this was a gift to myself, the first college graduate in my direct bloodline.
Before anyone gets too riled up, this pistol was NOT in its original condition when it was sent to NHC back in 2020. I DO NOT advocate for customizing historical firearms in original or "close to" original condition.

Ramble on, Eli! The more you talk, the longer we get to admire that fine piece.
Besides, when you know the backstory about something, it makes it more interesting. And this piece already starts off interesting because of it’s vintage. The story makes it more so. It personalizes it.
    Keep ‘em coming!

Wonderful 1911 young man. That is a wonderful modernization restoration. It looks likes it's done a proper job for the most part carrying the original personality (The original wood grips were as unforgiving as they were consistant). I got mine as an heirloom. Has a crazy story behind it dealing with a lot of the sins of America from within. It should have been DRMO'd and sent to scrap, but instead was issued to the African-American soldiers. And that's where my family's story starts with it.

My mother's maiden name is Browning, and yes there is relation descended from a brother of JMB. Been carrying a 1911 since I was 16. I'm now 54. The hammer dipped in blood got me. Good stuff. I'm also a two tour US Marine combat vet. I feel your pain, and love for the 1911. Semper Fi.

Great video i have a pre war Colt all original and in a few weeks picking up a 1944 all original Ithaca. A few years ago nighthawk started refabin new Colt classics as several articles in combat handguns magazine. Being i have 2 Classics one will be a WW- 2 clone and the other a national match from post WW-2 . Back in the day as I've seen in magazines soldiers had their wives or a pinup girl engraved on ivory grips. My best friend and i had birthday at the range this week and we shot our 1911's and his WW-2 M1A Garand in 30-06 !! Yes i got hammer bite!! 😮😅

I have several 1911s, There is nothing like a 45 1911 and I carry it in a crossdraw. I was fortunate last Fall to be able to purchase a NightHawk TRS Comp. It is a whole nother level of stupid good. My favorite 1911 is my Dan Wesson. I just sent my Colt Gold Cup Trophy to NightHawk for customization.

I’m a little older than you. My first 1911 I shot as a kid was a 22’ commercial. So when I got old enough to buy a pistol I looked for a 1911. I briefly owned a pretty nice 19’ commercial. I noticed with both it and the 22’ some serious peening on the slide stop notch. I’m still a young man so I traded the 19’ for wwi black oxide and wmk carbonia blue ri colt wwi reproductions. I wanted to own guns I wouldn’t worry about shooting. With the soft steel and the original recommended service life of 4000 rounds do you worry about shooting your gun? That’s such a good looking 1911 for the slide to give it up and crack…the 22’ is a family member’s. I hope to own a 22’ commercial someday but other than checking function don’t plan on shooting it much. Nothing feels better in the hand to me as that 22’ commercial that was my great grandfather’s….
I saw a nice alchemy this weekend at a gun show but he was asking enough I could order exactly what I wanted cheaper direct from you guys. It felt and looked great though…

You and my son inspired me to recently purchase a 1911. I have not owned one since the early 90s. I grew up shooting my dads Remington Rand. Then in AFOSI we carried modified WWII 1911s. The slide and barrel were cut to a Commander length. The grip was cut to an Officer's model length. And, they added an ambidextrous safety. Mine was also a Remington Rand. That pistol went everywhere with me from Bolling AFB, to Yongsan Army Garrison, and finally to Lackland AFB. I loved it. I bought a Colt Officer's model during that time frame. Ramble on Duck! It is entertaining. ruclips.net/video/LzGBQerkvWs/видео.html
