This is a brief look at another Facebook Marketplace purchase - a Korean Ibanez RX with a lot of "decorations" on it. I show the process of removing stickers, replacing the tape on the humbucker pickups, cleaning the electronics, take a look at some of the components inside, upgrade some components, and a few other things. This will be a one-episode project.

I did buy RX170 in 1995. MIK. I still miss it today.

Love the RX models. I had mine swirl dipped painted.

Nice, bet that looked cool. I'm digging the trans green on this one.

The tuners are probably a weakness of the model, but it's got a lot going for it.

I have tried to remove sticker residue with that same product and all three times it would not fully come off. Must have been there 10 years or more. I tried everything and three brands of goo remover and household product. Finally tried gasoline and removed almost all of it but still a haze the shape of the sticker. No chemical did damage to the finish where there was no sticker. To take residue 100% off I had to use more goo remover with a lightly gritty dish pad. That finally did it but only because it removed the gloss along with it. No gloss was lost where I did not scrub even with the gasoline. It’s as if the residue gunk becomes one with the gloss.

Something I've not tried but may one day when I have something that difficult is a Magic Eraser. Those things seem to work miracles in the house.

How does it sound after the setup?

I no longer have it, but it sounded pretty good. I remember the middle pickup was pretty weak/thin, but that’s mostly true in HSH setups.

Pstt, windex would have done the whole job. Just a FYI cause I see you struggling with the goo gone.

The struggle was not letting it sit long enough, and it was really only the difference between waiting 10 seconds and waiting 20-30 seconds. I should have shown the sticker removal on the case... it was more like hardened duct tape residue removal. Windex and Clorox wipes didn't touch that, but Goo Gone and a toothbrush took it out with no issues.
