    So I took my truck to the big cummings shop in slc they dynoed the engine and Jake brake horsepower and torque were spot on but the Jake's were only doing 480 hp should be doing 600 braking hp they made some adjustments to overhead and computer stuff got it to 580 hp its way better almost as good as my old truck

    Any advice long question rebult jakes and replace harnes and accuators to jakes and prevesly replaced rocker to jake but coming down 6%or more of hill i am only getting 10psi if lucky used to be more

      @@devinlewis3509 leaks, weak solenoid, lack of oil flow or slave piston (if truly a Jake and not the one this video is about) not adjusted properly when reassembled. I would check the last one first.

    Mechanically speaking, what is the difference in low, medium, and high engine brake settings with the rocker arms? For example, does low only activate 1/4 of the rockers and high activated 1/2?

    • @charleysgarage
      @charleysgarage  Год назад +2

      It is the number of cylinders that are active in braking. Controlled by solenoids usually that determine (on this engine) like you said the number of rockers being activated. In some engines it would be one cylinder in low, in others it could be 2 or 3. High setting would engage brakes on all cylinders until the minimum programmed engine RPM is reached the cylinders would cycle back on to prevent engine stall. Hope that answers your question.

      @@franciscopalomino2071 an older engine with a lot of blowby? A failed solenoid for high braking? I would start by checking the switch and see if it is working on the high setting then testing each solenoid individually. Resistance check with a DMM, is voltage present (don't check those at the same time, you will blow the fuse in your DMM) without being there to see and hear and feel in person that's about as far as I can go.

      @@franciscopalomino2071 Check switch operation and then solenoid operation with the DMM. Is it an older high mileage engine? Without seeing it in person that would be my suggestions.

    I got a 2020 Cummins x15 performance 605 hp the Jake's have seemed weak from day one its got 500k on it now (never got any worse ) I have asked pete dealer about it twice they say there no adjustment for it my last truck had same motor Jake was way better is there a adjustment for it I had the over headed done by a independent shop no change still need to be 2 gears lower to get same braking as 2016 I had before trucks are speced the same trans and diffs haul same load

      Working at a trade school I don't get access to the new stuff to answer your question right away but I will do some research and see what is different in them from the older models.

      Actually this is a good exercise for my class tonight. They were just given access to the Cummins website, I am going to show them your comment and then ask them how they would find the answer to your question and have them do it. Thank you for writing my curriculum tonight :)

      X15 is supposed to be the strongest engine brake on the market, 600 BHP @1900 rpm. Stay away from truck dealers, go to a Cumnins engine shop
