    This was a really good video, thanks for the great tips! I realized that I had this fear of overshooting to the back, o I never really fully commit to throwing my weight back. Instead of trying to find the sweetspot like this it is definitely better to learn to overshoot and land on two feet... seems so obvious now that you showed it, but now I finally have something to properly train and try to improve my Manual/Bunny hop! Thanks man!

    I've watched MANY videos about how to bunny hop. And I learned something from each. However, I could not lift the front wheel in any meaningful way. What I learned in this video made it happen. After watching this, I went out and started to lift my front wheel consistently. I am not YET doing bunny hops, but I am in the process like I was not before. Thanks!

    A lot of people just can't get the jump worked out once in manual position with front wheel off the ground (because it doesn't feel like a stable 2 wheels on ground balancing point). Try putting your front wheel up on a small wall or log and get used to that feeling and technique of launching up and forwards from that wheel raised, body weight low and back position. You'll start to figure out the balance between jumping forward OFF the bike, and jumping up and forward... then bringing the bike up with you by pulling/throwing arms up and forwards and scooping legs up also. Try watching some trials rider vids as they back hop up obstacles from static, or clear big rocks etc with front wheel already raised on top of rocks.

    Here’s a take I’ve found helps when teaching/learning. As you do the L move, squash down then PUSH the bars as far away as you can without letting go and also give a push through your feet. Then pull back on the bars to help you jump up. Don’t forget to draw your feet up.

    Thanks for the video man! I can do small hops now but when I try to do a bigger hop after the manual can’t get timing right and feels like I’m too far down and back to stand up.
    Are you initiating shifting your weight forward and up after the manual with your legs/feet or or arms first? At the same time are you pulling on the bars to stand up?

    So I have never ride a mountain bike until this moment of my life right now. But I rode bicycle to go to school everyday growing up back home. I do jumps but I jump both tires at the same time lol. I have never seen anybody doing that. Now that I bough a MTB I can do the same little jumps I used to do as a kid but I can’t do bunny hump. Gonna try yours advices. Thanks.

    Try extending your arms WHILE keeping your legs bent. You’ll get wayyyyy more pop. It’l feel awkward at first, but that’s the way to do it. Extending your legs back like your doing puts your body too dark back and robs you of all the available mechanical energy to “jump”. Hope this helps.

      Definitely possible

    • @Petr388
      @Petr388 4 года назад +3

      That could be due to different geometry which could not suit you or bunnyhops in general. Because me myself I was only doing bunnyhops on FS bike. 2 months ago I bought dirtjump hardtail bike with unusually long reach (dirtjump bikes are usualy very short) which suited me perfectly, I am tall (186 cm) and since DJ bikes are perfect for jumps I started to kill it in bunnyhops. It was so much easier than on enduro bikes and with half effort! I reccomend to buy aggresive geometry hardtail or even dirtjump bike to progress your jumping skills.

    • @Petr388
      @Petr388 4 года назад +4

      It also have to add, that HT bikes are easier to bunnyhop in general. You can be more precise with more rigid bike, it is also lighter (if you compare same frames, same geometries) and you waste less energy, since there is no suspension to eat your preloading energy

    to me it appears like the first part of bunny hop, being the manual, is the most challenging one determining success of the rest. standing up afterwards is the easy part.
    speaking of manual, I would say there are three steps
    1) dropping the weight down, preloading the suspension
    2) timing properly the initiation of the backwards L-shaped movement
    3) extending arms thus going backwards enough
    - everyone addresses the L shape and the backwards movement, and the bail-out practice
    - I do not see any discussion on the preload part (as you said in your jump video, you gotta preload the fork as well, I feel its the same w manuals/bunny hops, so what do you actually preload. do you even have to preload your rear shock or do you drop your weight towards the bars rather)
    - and I do not see any discussion in regards to timing, which of course is suspension dependent .but being slow definitely takes away the pop, hypothetically being too fast prob screws up too. when I practice I have like a metronome beep-beep in my head. however it's duration is purely based on my guess, what do you think about the timing ?

    The hardest part is not being able to send your weight back with your bodyweight. I can do that all day and land on my feet. The hard part is shifting back forward when your weight is already back.

  • @JonnyFlash80

    Wait, so you don't have to compress your front suspension before pulling back like Seth Bike Hacks said to do? Or is that just to get more height? He also pulls the bars to his waist as he extends upwards. Slightly different technique.
