In depth review of the Piaggio MP3 300 HPE Sport. Really interesting and different vehicle for me, but one that I can see having a lot of applications for the city commuter. Hope you enjoy it.

Great review - I use my SH300 to commute in to London all year round and it's also my workhorse. I've seriously been considering one of these and you may have convinced me just that little bit more - there's also a 350 version. Checked a Forza 350 out yesterday but it just didn't feel right so the Mp3 could be for me
Thanks mate. Glad it helped 🙏
I've had mine ever since it came out. I hadn't ridden a bike for years but I couldn't take the commute anymore. It leans just like a proper bike but it's much more stable. If you know how to ride, just go for it. The locking mechanism makes parking much easier, especially for short stops on uneven surfaces but I never use it when riding. I never use the foot-break either. If you have big feet, like me, you'll have to rest your right foot next to the pedal. (It won't fit behind it) That means that if you have to break, you'll have to lift your foot at a weird angle to be able to hit it hard. The extra wheel at the front and all the additional braking power has saved my skin in the situations like the ones you described. So, great review overall. You're spot on. It's like you've had it for a month or something. Good job, mate.
Thanks Theodore. Appreciate your comments :)
This was so useful! Thank you. What it lacks in looks, it makes up in features.

I have owned this 300cc MP3 for a few thousand kilometers now. You can forget 88 miles per gallon. Driving on different types of roads, my best fuel economy result is a total of 62 miles/gallon. That's slightly better than my city car. (50m/g) or the Honda ST1100 (51m/g) that I owned before buying the MP3. I'm an older man, 72 years old, so I don't drive around town like a crazy person. In city traffic, the MP3 is easier to handle than my car of ST and you can find many more free parking spaces than for a car. I don't use the foot brake, it's just an annoying thing that gets in the way of my right foot. I rode the ST1100 for 6 years as a commuter bike, summer and winter. I don't do that with the MP3 because it is much colder than riding the Honda. It could be a little better if I were to put up a high screen for a lot of money. I live in the Netherlands near Amsterdam, for your orientation.
Thanks for your comment 🙏
Brilliant review, ticked all the boxes, thank you!
Much appreciated mate
I've owned a variety of bikes over the years including the 400 version of this scooter. The bike was bought for my wife who I hoped would get the riding bug but at the training program the instructors didn't know how to teach her on this machine so she lost interest and the bike was sold but not before my son took to it like a duck to water and soon got his licence and the riding bug. For contest the other bikes I 've owned include a Honda 600, a Yamaha XV1100, a Kawasaki Voyager 1700 and a Suzuki Burgman 650 Scooter. I reckon I've ridden about 250K/kms or more. I don't say that to boast but to give my credentials to comment on the bike. Likes; plenty of power most of which was available at the top end (rather than across the powerband with the Suzuki). Fuel economy was good (I can't remember the size of the tank but I think it was about 12 litres). The Suzuki has a 14-litre tank and gets about 200kms to the tank. It held its own on the highway at speeds up to 110km (the national speed limit in Australia where I live). The seat was comfortable and the bike could carry two people easily. I rode it a few times on my daily commute (200kms) and it was more than capable of doing that. The stability control work at less than 5kms/hour in that you can activate it at that speed and twisting the throttle disengages the mechanism. I liked the stability of the extra contact patch and the extra grip when braking. There was sufficient storage for most riding - you could add a top box if you needed more. Dislike; the stupid sports screen that does nothing to keep the wind off and is not adjustable in fact in bright sunlight it doesn't even provide shade for the instruments that are then hard to read. With the handbrake engaged and the locking front suspension engaged it is possible to park the bike and not need to use the side or centre stand. In my view put aside any scooter v bike prejudices and just ride what you like and what suits where you are going. They did not sell well in Australia but I do recall seeing lots of them in Paris both the Piaggio and the Peugeot versions. I Australia they were available in 250, 300, 400 and as a GIlera 500. Thanks for your review.
Thanks for you’re comment Roger. Appreciate your viewpoint. Hope to visit your wonderful country one day…if they ever bring back Concorde that could make it in 5 hours 😂😂😂

hi there
the video was great, the last time i rode a scooter was in 1969 when i had an old lambretta 150 with bucket seats on it,i had a serious road accident on it,ever since then i have had motorcars,i have managed to purchase one of these off gumtree, its a 2012 3oolt model,it only cost me £1400
its got full mot,new pads etc really nice condition, youre video has really made me confident that this bike will make me feel safer than having three wheels.
Awww that’s awesome and good for you! 👏 really glad it helped. Thankyou ❤️
I have just ordered an mp3 400 and, in anticipation, have viewed a lot of videos. This one is the most comprehensive and helpful introduction I have encountered. Bravo!
Thanks Brian. Very kind to say that.
I purchased a used 2007 Piaggio mp3 250Ie it have 3708 miles on it! I had it for two years now I did some work on it and upgraded it make it look better with top case!
Wow that’s low mileage. Cool 😎
A colleague @ work has a 500cc piaggio mp3 and I have a 300cc model. The 300 is lighter and easier on the manual handling and much quicker acceleration, whilst the 500 has faster top end speed. The stability button isn't really practical unless in slow moving traffic and they're cumbersome threading through traffic, that said they're very stable and fun to ride in all weathers, but it's still a bike and to get the best out of it I ride it like a bike more feet down and less reliance on the stabiliser.

Many thanks for a really in depth review, absolutely the best on this scooter, much appreciated as I'm considering one
You’re welcome mate. Thanks.
Appreciate the video, buying one tomorrow and there’s very little vids on RUclips
Thanks mate. Congratulations.
Foot pedal brakes were once very common on 2 wheel Scooters in the 50's and 60's , I can remember my first Lambretta Scooter I owned had one , I never thought anything odd about it at the time .
Strange isn’t it how things change. I get the idea just somehow seems odd.
Good video matey. Like the variety. 👏🏻
Cheers Dave 🥰
Great little review. Thanks! Only thing, for those coming to this with a pesky car licence, a full walk-through of the handlebar controls would have been brill. I know what they are, but they’re a bit different bike to bike…oh yeah, and a touch different to a car! You said exactly what I thought about the brake pedal! Thanks a lot!
You’re welcome mate
I actually think it looks pretty cool for a Scooter....
It’s decent isn’t it. Not everyone cup of tea I get but decent.
Great review!
Very interesting and a good review for someone like myself who is considering getting one. Wouldn't even be the first Piaggio I've had (had a Zip ten years ago). I'm wondering about a second-hand one, apparently it's only in the last couple of years that the spec has changed to make it rideable on a car licence (which I have).
Glad it helped
Good review again. Only just come across your channel pal and loving it 👍. Be good to see you do a review of the new X ADV
Thanks Andy. Appreciate it mate. I’ll try my best....
Thanks for a great review!
Thanks for a great comment
I was considering getting one of these trikes for commuting as I don't have Cat A license but reconsidered when I got the insurance quotes.
Was it high?
I have a 2010 400 LT and it pulls like a train. Will sit at 70 all day and does 90 with no problem.
Good to hear. They are great all round things.
I found out you can put footpegs on it and did some research and found out stop making it 2013! But did not stop me looking it I found a set UPF/XT bracket now looks great because I stand 6` 1" now stretch my legs out of knee brace I wear!
Thanks that’s good info
Yep I'm with you on that ...Wacky Racers in London. Good review, top stuff.
Thanks Kevin. Appreciate it. 🙏
I bought a 4 year old Tec Max 560 because I have a twenty year old Tmax 500.
Never let me down.
Unfortunately I can’t say that with this four year old 560cc Tmax!
Very expensive maintenance, and with the electronic trotting it’s not very reliable.
Intermittent issues with acceleration below 4000 revs, can’t get it sorted.
SoI have decided to move on to its smaller brother, with a single cylinder more conventional valve system.
The Tmax has a double overhead cam system which is expensive to maintain.
Cheers.
Thanks for the video! Very informative and focused for the right population IMO, i.e., less experienced/commuter riders.
Thanks Christopher. Appreciate the support 🙏
Great video.
So much usefull info.
Ty.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, which one is better? Mp3 300 hpe or tricity 300, if they priced the same? Thanks
Not ridden the tricity. Sorry.
I spoke to my motorbike dealer about this. They told me there is no age limit on the insurance so you can pass your test after 2013 too
Good stuff my man
What do you think which one is better: Piaggio mp3 300 or Yamaha Tricity 300?
Not ridden the yam yet unfortunately
I am so close to buy 300 mph but i don't know how he act's with 2 person... It goes 100kmh on highway with 2 person for 100 kilometers distance, or is only for town rides? Very nice presentation in all videos. Have a nice day.....
Thank you. Really appreciate the compliment
Jeez, keep still !!
Keep what still?
Brilliant. Thanks . I am just looking for something practical to commute to work, about 11mikes away. Don't really want another car at the house, not sure I want a full bike license. But this ticks the boxes
No problems. Thank you.
Good video, thanks!
Thanks my man.
Great video
Thanks mate
My 2023 Piagio 300 hpe sport does on a little no speed run 77 mpg
So why did the old 300 yourban have more power?

@@mostlymotorbikes you'll be doing electric ones next lol .
@@garyhutson6361 haha it’s kid you’ve a crystal ball 😉
You just said foot brake works front + rear. Why dragging the foot brake on slow turns, I think most people drag the rear break left hand lever on slow tight turns.
Possibly but with two front wheels it’s slightly different
The "hook" is for hooking shopping bags and such so you don't have to squeeze them between your knees. ;)
Well I never. How genius 😂
You'll still need to hold them with your legs mate. The hook is very flimsy. They made sure to tell me when I picked up mine from the dealership. 😉
Best review
Much appreciated mate
Horses for courses.. for a commuter it is ideal and it looks quite nice, though the dash does look a little like someone looking through a pair of binoculars wearing a baseball hat 🧐😂
Haha that’s funny
You mentioned that the PIAGGIO MP3 can be driven in the UK using a car driving license. Is this true ?
If so, Could you please confirm if a UK driving license of category "B Auto" is enough to drive a PIAGGIO MP3 ? or does the license have to be of category "B" ?
www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped
Given the economics results of your famous Brexit, many Brits will be more than happy to have 3 wheels instead of 4 🤣🤣🤣 As of me (77 year young) I'll soon trade my 660 cc two-wheeler for a 300 cc three-wheeler & so far the Piaggio is my choice !
Not our finest hour 🤦♂️
i use to have the first version of this motorboike the 2006 one.i decided to buy one of these a uban version.getting from Lnodon to clapton at this time of year was not nice it was freezing and i was tied....i got lost driving around london....and was freezing on the motorway. but if you wanna grab a bargin buy them in the middle of winter.
hi. Can you please let me know how far is from London to Clapton, and how long it takes to ride?
Couldn’t agree more
@@seliukovaite Clapton is east London. Shouldn't take long at all.
@@seliukovaite you could cycle it
Does it have the same front lights as the 500 with low beam only on one of the frontlights?
Sorry can’t remember
How easy is it to get it on the stand as it’s weighs a quarter of a tonne?
Once you’ve got the knack that it’s about using the weight as leverage, very simple. The tendency is to try and muscle it up but there is a technique to it.
What is the difference between the 300 HPE Sport en the 300 HPE?
I have no idea
I'm gonna get one of these. I'm near London so the commute is fine but sometimes I stay further out with around 35miles of motorway driving what would your opinion be on that? The 300 appeals to me as free congestion just wondering if id be better with the 400 and paying the congestion
I wouldn’t. It will handle short motorway journeys fine and be cheaper.
@@mostlymotorbikes thank you 300 it is. I wanted to fit out from someone with experience
@@jacko2815 no problem mate. Enjoy.
Great review... Loved the "Dickhead" bit 🤣
Question: I live in Faversham in Kent but work in Wandsworth London. About 50 miles drive. You think this 300 would be suitable? I was considering the 500 but the congestion charge put me off. But the 300 I'm not sure will be fast enough for M2?
Yeah. It will sit at 70-80 perfectly fine
@@mostlymotorbikes That's good to know mate thanks. Wanting it more for the London traffic so don't mind poddling along on the motorway.
@@supersonic8575 honestly, I could think of a better vehicle for London! I work there a lot and I’d have one in a second if I lived there.
@@mostlymotorbikes Perfect mate. Exactly what I wanted to know before getting one. Appreciate the replies 👍🏼
Man, you should check up for the new 2021 400 cc. one, it's more powerful while still light and nimbly !
Hi there... Is there any chance to compare this Piaggio 300 HPE with the Yamaha Tricity 300?
I’ll see if I can get hold of one mate.
Can you put nobblys on it for off roading.
Can’t see why not
Can I get one with just my full car license which I passed in 2018?
No idea, sorry. Check dvla website.
Thank you for the review I just bought a 07 250 EI my Vespa dealer told me not to use the front end lock use the center stand. What is your take on that? Thxs again be safe..
I mean why would it be part of the bike if not to be used?!
