They should build something like this (the 500cc) with a removable, lightweight, aerodynamic , weather enclosure. You'd be able to ride in wet & cold weather year round . If you keep a bottle of Rain-X for the windshield, it'd stop the windshields from fogging up and keeps the water from sticking to the windshield so you wouldn't need a windshield wiper.
I've driven motorbikes from custom to sportbikes and my last bike was a 2012 Yamaha VMAX and I'm going to purchase the MP3 500 HPE Sport Advance for 2022 I was actually waiting until they implemented the reverse gear in 2021 but due to this covid crap, I decided to wait to get next year. Thanks for the nice review :-)
Just bought myself one today! Had been thinking about it for a year. Got a 2014 sport in gun metal grey. The best thing for me is not having to do bike test.
Insurance is a bit more than you'd pay for a normal 300cc scooter probably because of the non bike license and I think that is fine. What I didn't know was the price of the road tax for them is the same as a medium sized car about £ 100 quid per year. Didn't know about that before I purchased it. But guys its quick its fun and you can go touring on it almost anywhere 😎
Brilliant, just bought one and can't wait for it to get delivered tomorrow. Haven't ride in a while sp little nervous, but hopefully get over the nerves and just go! 😊
I keep looking at one of these to supplement my current 300 scooter and city commute - you adapted easily to the ride so may have convinced me that little bit more, cheers
I also have a MP3 300 Hpe. I would like to mention a few things. In terms of driving behavior, it is no different from a two-wheeler. On bad roads you have two front wheels that react differently to bad roads and you feel that different information in the steering wheel. If one wheel is forced in one direction by the road surface and the other reacts differently because it has to overcome another obstacle, ridge, height difference, it is not pleasant. And you have 33& more chance of a flat tire. I live in the Netherlands and for our highways the top speed of about 110 real kilometers (68 miles) is not enough to keep up smoothly with the other traffic. Parking and maneuvering without an engine is very easy if the wheels are fixed, you never have to take the balance into account. For city traffic it is a very nice motorcycle.
As a passionate motorcyclist I can say that I do not understand why manufacturers make us want a concept motorcycle covered in the elements and in the end they do not put it on the market. MP3 only lacks weather protection.
I've had a 500 sport for 8 years and I love it ...she's getting a bit long in the tooth now and she might have to be retired (it's 13 years old now ) but I'll enjoy it ad long as I can keep it on the road
BikeMatters... Great review 👏 I really like how U talk us thru the practical every day ins & outs of this three wheeled maxi scooter. U have really piqued my interest in Piaggio products. Thank U much!
New beginner rider beware thinking this is a safe option because it has 2 wheels in the front: It has a high center of gravity as you sit up high too. Notice he is on his tippy toes. If he sat on a Honda Goldwing, his feet would be flat on the floor. This scooter will want to tip as soon as you release the locked front wheels to go. It is not a typical small scooter. It is large and heavy and only an experienced rider should drive this scooter. An inexperienced rider has to remember to lock those front wheels when stopped before getting off as it will balance on its own a bit. You can get off and not realize you didn't lock the wheels and the scooter will go right over. Happened to a friend of mine. It is fun to ride, has great stopping power with 3 brakes and is way safer on uneven surfaces as well as going over RR tracks. Try to buy used as new buyers will tend to sell this after a year or so. High price end new.
I have a 2010 500cc MP3. I like it so much better over my previous maxi scooter the 2007 Piaggio 500cc X-9. The Sport MP3 looks like it is has a wider tire distance compared to mine. The two wheels offer a lot more stability at higher speeds, going over bumps and passing trucks. Before I would get buffeted a little and the front end would be a bit bouncier. I've taken mine down to Chicago from Madison WI (about 150) and it's comfy as I take it on the country roads. I like it and it does draw some attention.
Buying a 500 hpe ABS with custom seat and black carbon with red and black carbon camo wrap, hand warmers, alarm, the whole shebang 🤗 just a few weeks saving left... Had a testdrive first, also on the Gilera Fuoco, it looks cooler but Fuocos do not have ABS and ASR so they slide with a emergency braking test, wich I did. The MP3 ABS does not slip. Since I drive always even on snow and ice, this beats driving on a 2 wheel Piaggio Zip scooter in the winter. I'm probably gonna put white horizontal bar stickers at 50 km , 80 and 100 and 130 km per hour, so it should be easier to see the speed.
I purchased a use 2007 Piaggio mp3 250Ie I got 003710 miles on it! I am rebuilding CVT putting all new parts & upgraded light bulbs to LEDS and added top case & saddle bags!
That is my real complaint about the MP3 300 as well. The speedo. KMH is the dominant scale, with MPH being sunk down and in some weather conditions much more difficult to see at a quick glance. Yes, there are the red dots at 30 etc but not ideal. Shame they didn't think about adding the speedo reading to the large display in the centre, as part of the menu. I've invested in a USB powered GPS HUD with a larger green LED display. But otherwise it goes ok. One soon gets use to going around corners. I tend to use the same technique I tended to use on my SV1000SZ. Good practical review. And its even cheaper now.
Can you do one with the Yamaha three-wheel the 125 there are similar to where the bike you're ready now and do their parents between this bike and then and the Yamaha please
I'll be honest about these I'm always concerned about the excess complexity of the front end, and the increased cost of the almost certainly needed maintenance
Im looking at the 500cc version of this. I have a yzf r125 at the minute but i dont have s full bike license so cant take it on motorway to get to work so go lthe long way round. Getting one if these would save me time. But they are more expensive to buy than my yzf was. Would you recommend me swapping my yzf which is fun to drive for one of these

I just insured my mp3 300 touring just 2 weeks ago, i am now 70 . First time on one of these machines..and got insurance in a matter of 10 minutes. Hastings, £129 and that, is paying monthly
Excellent video, have been thinking about one of these for a while and have now ordered one today. One question, when it comes to MOT time is it a standard bike MOT or does it have to be taken to a specialist? There are a few motorcycle dealers near me but none sell these and therefore I had to order from a dealer 80 miles from where I live. Any info about MOT'S would be appreciated.
Hi I am seriously interested in this bike, and in my country i can drive this thing with my normal driver's license. But how do you listen to music or use navigation on this bike? Traveling without music is a no go for me and can't live without Google Maps -i can get lost even in my own home town -🤣.
No! And the speedo is my biggest gripe. KMH is dead easy to see, MPH not so easy. Just a shame no one at Piaggio didn't seem to realise that having a nice big display in the centre would be good to have. But then they probably use KMH being based in Europe.
I wonder what stage of motorcycle license you need to ride this for those who don’t have a car license (A,A2 or A1) does the law (here in UK) consider it a trike?
I have a 2008 400 mp3ie and it's better than other bikes on gravel, but the twin front wheels are iff over rocks where one goes over and one tries to go round... for that terrain I use my V-Strom 650DL lol
In the Netherlands you need to have A2 or A motorcycle license. I'm currently doing my A2 driving license. For that you need to be 21 years old to start
How about go in reverse in review an early 2000s BMW 1150GS. And this time don't be afraid of it. : ) Just flow with it. Don't stall it, don't over steer. Just ride.
I was watching and realised I recognised the area you were testing the mp3! Are you local? So what was the comfortable cruising speed/top speed on the m1 then?
Nice machines but very heavy, fuel consumption realistically 55 to 60 mpg. I got to the point of having to fill up every time I did a decent local ride. The idea that a car driver can simply get on one and drive away is dangerous. It is a heavy motor cycle and initially needs to be ridden with care. Then at MOT time they need specific MOT stations for 3 wheelers. May motor cycle MOT stations are not able to cover them. Nice machines but be carefull.
They are VERY heavy and if you are not careful with the stability lock you can come a cropper... it's heavier than my Yamaha 750 or the Suzi 650 V-strom...
Yes very heavy and you have little chance of recovery should they start to fall. Once over they take 2 to lift them. The weight is focussed on the suspension system high up which makes them top heavy
Just remember the bike does not comply with congestion charge so you will pay full wack as TFL have installed recently rear camera readers i know as i got 3 fines till i got autopay will have to go back to 2 wheels unless you buy a yourban its lengh complys any trike over 2 metres does not
It depends.. in Oregon you can ride one with a car license and a pass at the written test. oddly they do NOT require you to pass the motorcycle riding practical test which is.... insane!
Depends on the state. Some states don't hate motorcycles and scooters. Others do. My state (Connecticut) wants to discourage two wheels as much as possible and so requires a crapton of bullshit to get licensed, including a safety course. Now, that latter would be great IF there were more than five places in the entire state to take the course. Anyone who lives in the Northwest section has to drive at least 1-1/2 hours to get to the nearest location and the course is spread over three days. What a colossal joke.
Brilliant, just bought one and can't wait for it to get delivered tomorrow. Haven't ride in a while sp little nervous, but hopefully get over the nerves and just go! 😊
