Agony tried to show what hell could look like and i think they did a really good job with graphics keeping in mind that very few people developped the game. The sounds are done well. The creatures are hellish, it's true but their movements are like a plastic dinosaur's. And sadly i have to agree with you in the other parts of the game. The developers should have worked at least a year longer with the game. Quality requires time and madminds studio forgot it.

For what the game is and what the original intention of the developer was, I think it’s great. Yes it has its flaws and little tweaks that need to made but all in all I loved it and I’m almost done with my second play through.

Exvalos It was an funded goal on Kickstarter. I also was wondering where is the promised VR mode. But we also got not funded goal like ,,Multiple Playable Characters'' as described on their KS page which(apart from posession mechanics) I think is the Succubus mode - they put that in while it didnt reached funding goal. Instead of focusing on polishing main game/story stuff they did that mode for nothing basically since both turned out to be garbage lmao.

The game's title is exactly what I experience when playing it.
is it really that bad? I was really looking forward to play to this game since I saw the trailer. I am no teenager, but I was looking for a different kind of game more into the Lovecraftian/Danteskian kind of occultism and gore.

It is way better than I originally thought it would be and this reviewer is absolutely incorrect about the score. This game is easily at least 8/10.

I hate to say this, but this game is a Ray Charles in Hell simulator. You can't see sheeeeeeeit. Default gamma is awful. PS: Ray Charles is awesome, and I don't think he'll be going to Hell anytime soon. It was a bad joke. I know.

This game is not groundbreaking in anyway, but it's a step in the right direction. Cod hasn't innovated since Black ops 1 and you still give every game after that undeserved high rankings.

Jet packs aren't innovation. Jet packs add layers to the playing field, but it's not a new concept in combat games. They rely on all the same outdated playlists they've had since MW, only adding tweaks and gimicks to keep the player base halfway entertained until the next game a few months later.

Dakota Brown New and improved character/weapon customizations, not just color variations, but like individual customizable parts. Give customizables value toward the core gameplay, not all visual. New playlists, that require more objective based gameplay, war is actually a good start IMO but they usually never capitalize when they get something that works. That could also be because of the differences in the companies making the games, but still. I would also like to see tweaks to combat, maybe not across all playlists but have it where hit boxes on limbs cause some sort of handicap, go for more realism.
Personally you can't compare two different genres. And a gane being good is subject despite its ratings.

this is like taking one cool dream part in a real game that lasts 10 minutes and stretching it for 12 hours
I liked how little direction the game gave in regards to controls and stuff. It gave a sense of disorientation one would feel if he were REALLY caught in hell. Also, the vagueness of the story wasn’t a problem for me because of my Christian background. Since I could remember, I’ve always been taught the hell is a horrible place and to see it depicted in the game was a pretty scary thing.

this is a game that is a prime of example of not giving in to companies this game is actually incredibly toned down from the beautiful gore and intensity of fear the videos they provided prior to release
Would have been more interesting had the game played off of the line at the beginning, "where light causes pain and darkness brings solace." The game should have been mostly about navigating without using light in some fashion. Maybe through sound as I remember was experimented with a while back. Then when there is light, the utter horror around you is revealed but so sparingly that it plays with your mind kinda like the older horror films that let you imagine your fears. I'm only putting like a minute of thought into the how, but I'm sure it could have been done in some fashion.
Your IQ must be at least 300 to play this game. Hell has 2 much red... Not enough sunshine and rainbows. 4/10

Dylan Nguyen I don't think it would work in Bloodborne with its use of more traditional horror in the 1st half and lovecraftian horror (or cosmic horror) in the second half.

Uh I think DOOM was released before any CoD. So.. CoD is the clone. The newest DOOM is a bit like CoD but still not a clone as you can very well tell when you play that it feels more like the original DOOM, at least more than DOOM 3 did.. Lol

i like that people are taking some creative liberty with the visual design here, but i guess gameplay would have to adjust accordingly. also i wonder if there is anything giving you some way to relate in this environment. i feel like if your entire game is nothing but these surreal hellscapes it might be really hard to care about them or this situation at all. (that's why we usually have something we can relate to, something that once scared ourselves in horror games i think)

As a person who actually played the game I found it very enjoyable and worth the 30 dollar price tag. The game isnt nearly as dark as everyone says and I found np problem finding a ideal gamma level for it that covers most places. There are some bugs that can be laughed off for the story and some zones make the game all worth while. for the price its a good play 7/10

For once, I agree with IGN.
This game is just a poorly made gorefest with no purpose outside of making you go "wtf". That being said, it serves its purpose after less than an hour, that if you're only in for some cheap scares and gore, otherwise, if you're looking for a decent game you won't like this to begin with.

Backed the game on Kickstarter only to get some sort of walking simulator with elements of hide and seek.
I was pretty pissed off when I first bought the game, it was unplayable, so I decided to put it away for a few months, give them time to patch it a few times.... So, I just started playing it, and I'm actually enjoying myself, enjoying myself more than I did with Vampyr anyway

I was really looking forward to this game because its art design reminded me of Dante's inferno, and i really like the depiction of hell in that game. Maybe i just wait till the price drop down a little and see if is really that bad (even though its design still look awesome to me)
It deserves a 5 at least. It’s far from great, but still admirable from an indie developer.
For the first time I 100% agree with the ign review. I played this game as soon as it was cracked by codex.
Upon playing it I realised that it was too glitchy and the repetitive colours used were just too obnoxious.
Another bugging thing about the game is that it's like a maze. There is always a feeling of having left something behind or leaving an alternate better way with rewards to the same destination.
My rating would be 2/10, IGN still gave it a pretty decent score.

My only annoyance is the sound glitching for me. Im playing on Xbox, since Gamestop only had an Xbox copy left. The game itself isnt too bad but mostly glitches take away the joy.

Dissapointing review . This is Truly a unique Horror Game that if you look at how indie horror games are looked down upon for being not scary or boring monotonous concepts ..agony definitely stands out and brings a new era for creative innovative horror experiences. While I understand that yes the person reviewing the game is basing his opinion on the Gameplay experience and mechanical flow of player input... This game does not deserve this rating. Agony was made by no more than 20 guys .. Call it what you will but Gamers sometimes do not appreciate the effort and energy it takes to make a complete full working Game and release it. If this game should deserve a 4 out of 10 with a label "Bad" on it then it shouldnt be working or boring as HELL lol Get it?? Well my point is Developers who put everything they have into making a unique game gets tokd their game is Bad is going to hurt them.. and I think its not perfect yes but it is not definitely not Bad.

I applaud the reviewer's restraint in using "aggrivating" instead of the easy "agonizing" to describe the mechanics at 0:27. Nothing about this game seems appealing.
Here's the thing, though. It's supposed to depict Hell, right? Would you actually expect your tour of Hell to be in any way enjoyable? I would hope not. But though you have it a poor score, this is the one time when a poor score is in fact a "positive" when the backdrop is the worst of all places, Hell itself. If you're actually enjoying it enough to give it high marks, the makers did something wrong. It's Agony. Your experience and subsequent score should reflect that reality.

I think its a good game, especially with the new update fixing sprint duration and bugs, but it could have been a great game if madmind didnt cut a bunch of content to appease the ratings board and main platforms then took a deal not to release said cut content after promising to, now, the game did a good job of slowly upping the intensity but then plateaued due to content removal. Its not nearly as boring as outlast or amnesia, and alot of people probably gave it a bad rating due to shotty release and content removal. Console version had serious audio bugs too, still might.
They forgot to mention the buggy audio that goes in and out. The dialogue that repeats itself while its running. Issues with wandering soul getting stuck and even when you possess a new body if the demon is nearby it will automatically kill you.
Looks like a case study in why you don't dump all your effort into the vision of the environment alone. Without doubt, just based on the videos I've seen, nothing else envisions the blackest concept of Hell like this game. BUT, clearly the luster wears off fast, because designing actual Hell leads to it feeling like actual Hell to play. It's the classic storytelling problem of the drama being broken by the mechanics not having been thought through enough.
I'd still like to see this game first-hand, and I'd probably watch a play-through, but it's too bad it ended up like this after all the hype. This is not the first major indie title to end up a milquetoast release.

I feel like I am the only one who encountered this problem, where my sound bugs out, and I'm left listening to repeated static and the game trying to work. Many times while trying to possess someone, the game glitches, and I am stuck in the cinematic of entering the body. But on loop. Also, every time someone talks, they will get half way through their dialogue, before glitching, and starting the dialogue all over. Sometimes to the point that I have to restart checkpoint, cause again it its stuck in trying to convey something but it just does not progress. Perhaps my disc was bad? Not likely. I play Agony on a Xbox One X and am no way happy I bought this game. If I could, I would give this game a 0.5/5. Always check reviews before purchasing I guess, or at least that's what Agony taught us.
The had a lot of potential when I saw the trailers and game play. It's such a shame that a game like this fell flat. I was looking forward to playing this and bought it on while it was still 10% off. I'm just thankful for the refund program that steam has.
So basically a crappy version of doom.
No where near a doom game, why even compare. It follows amnesia and outlast more than an RPG 🤦♂️
Outlast the first was far better because it kickstart the running around horror games.

The mechanics are not what bugged me. I was perfectly fine with those. What pissed me off beyond measure was the atrocious audio.
The sound was fine. It's the fact it kept cutting out and looping at random that I could barely stand. It even did this during cut scenes! It breaks the immersion, and with a game like Agony, you can NOT afford to break the immersion to such an extent!
This game got shitty reviews on almost everything. Sad really. Great idea

It’s a fps horror game in the vein of Amnesia and Outlast you navigate maze like areas solve puzzles hide from stuff etc. it has some cool ideas thrown in like dying and possessing other characters but it feels exactly like it sounds half baked and tossed in to see if it sticks and it happened to ship in the final game.

Kind of a shame this game turned out bad, I was so excited when I first saw the trailers. I’m not even a horror fan, and I was looking forward to playing this.
So buy it on sale in October to play around Halloween?
