Why They Don’t Want Derrick Rose in the Hall of Fame

- Derrick Rose just retired a lot of people are wondering if he’ll make the basketball Hall of Fame. This is a look at his chances and why it’s possible he never makes it despite being the youngest MVP winner of all time.
He played with heart. Unfortunately no one taught him how to take care of his body. Bro played like he was maxing out every game.
It was his coach
All of his movements was more stomping hard pounding his feet and knees in the ground with every step . Not really using toes for balance… one knee messed up then the other because he was rushed back to fast as said in the video . Ankles are next and then on from there . Slowly breakdown of his body is wat we watched some of these nba organizations really will hurt you . Boston celtics IT was told his hip was ready when it really wasnt . Organizations in the nba will lie to you about your health the doctors will lie and you will go out there playing on about 85% health but one fuck up can fuck up your whole career .
The problem was that he didn't really know how else to play. That style of play is what got him to where he was but it isn't sustainable. He would have to completely reinvent himself and there is no guarantee his game would still be at the elite level if he did.
@@KnightMan16 just like if we were in 2011 right now he would have to adjust his game
One day wen he get old
Wen the athleticism leaves … wen he was on pistons and knicks we see him
Playing okay but doing more old man moves u understand floaters and more
Moves that would. Protect his body so he kinda learned in the end before retirement
his team failed to equip him with jump shoot
He’s so loved because so many of us grew up with him on his rise and because he’s a genuinely amazing personality
This is a tough one because it was such a short period of dominance, but he was INCREDIBLE for those few seasons.
He’s was still good/solid til about 2020
Tmac got in with no accolades. Drose is a certainty
@@286micIf all-NBA teams count as accolades then McGrady has two firsts, three seconds and two thirds.
They said McGrady never won a playoff series as the best player on a team, granted I’ve heard his teams weren’t very good.
Rose by contrast has a playoff series win or two, but didn’t have a prime that went as long as McGrady.
@@WesR7009 it is simple and not a tough one. They should fix the criteria for being part of it. Imagine when you worked hard your entire career just to be one of the greats and you see yourself in the same line as D rose? The disrespect is crazy.
@@286mic tmac has more all star appearances, more all nba's, and 2 scoring titles, those are accolades. MVP is not the only accolade in the league. 8 seasons averaging the numbers that made him great, rose only has 3.
The fact that people say his mvp was undeserved is wild. Dude carried the bulls to 60 wins and while their defense was elite you still have to put points on the board, which they had HORRIBLE spacing and no secondary offense with noah and boozer. Lebron had two all-stars, arguably all-nba caliber teammates, a hall of fame coach, and an elite veteran supporting cast and still couldn't win more regular season games. Also you look at that conf finals, even though its 4-1 if you add up the point totals the margin is 11 points. Over 5 games. At 23 he played one of the GOATS in his prime when he had his best supporting cast and if roses teammates made a couple more threes he could've beat them.
Drose kept running a pick and roll and lebron wouldnt switch off him he had korver and deng to pass it to rose got his max money and stopped trying and didnt want to come back to chicagos pressure he was more concerned of taking care of his family then trying to win the 1st season he was injured bulls were still the 1 seed doctors cleared him to come back during playoffs and he claimed he wasnt ready..he was paid and didnt care
Exactly! I don’t understand why we are even talking about LeBron in context of 2011 MVP. DRose deserved it. But if it’s not him it should be Dwight.
Also important to remember that the Bulls' win count was expected to be in the mid 40s. They dramatically over performed because of Rose.
If nothing else, being the youngest MVP warrants a first ballot vote. We at least got to see how dominant he could be at his healthiest.
Yeah but individually lebron is the better player
@@ArjayCatbaganno shit it's fucking lebron
It's the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame. It takes everything from a player's entire basketball playing life.
That gives Rose an even better chance then
So his time in college that doesn't technically exist because he had someone else take his sat for him?
@sonadorazul3074 as well as his two gold medals. 😂
there is only 1 non-nba player who was inducted back in 1992. So it is the nba hall of fame not the basketball hall of fame knowing the chances of you getting inducted without playing in the NBA is a 0.00229% chance of getting in. so technically you are correct realistically you are wrong. You have to play in the nba to get inducted.
@@rossGrett there's players who played the majority of their primes internationally such as toni kukoc and arvydas sabonis that were inducted.
The reason he's loved is a mixture of a couple things (his play style being exciting, big franchise, home town hero, no contreversy, injury, etc) but the thing that really did it is how humble he is, Derrick Rose is truely just a good guy and a good teammate, and he cares about basketball, thats what people love from other players like Kobe, KD, etc, they love basketball and so do fans
What you saying he was just a lil too humble while being on the floor?????
oh there's controversy all right, this man while on court for sexual assault went on record to say he didn't know what consent was

Why people love him:
1. Unqiue amazing style.
2. Gave his heart out like MJ without the ego.
D Rose was incredibly loved when he was at his peak. Lebron isn't loved less than in the 3rd year.
People love him because he got injured
@@Goatlikeitornot would you?
@@TheInternationalJew-vn4bn would I what
Gave his heart out like MJ?Give me a break. Even during MJ’s Wizards years he played after his torn cartilage. They were playoff bound and in the top 4 seed and he refused to stop playing. He had to go into playoffs. But eventually the injury was too much, he was forced to drop out, and Wizards fell out of playoff seeding. How many of today’s players would still play after a torn ACL? NOBODY. That’s how much passion and determination MJ had. I’ve seen other greats play through bad injuries as well.
Nah. Derrick Rose is loved because of his humility. He was the superstar that never acted like one. No diva personality at all. Just a quiet hardworking kid who resonated so well with his fans.
Doesn't make him hof
D-Rose had the most heartbreaking career in NBA history
Imagine Derrick Rose STAY HEALTHY his whole NBA career DAMN
I don't think he would have been that great, as he would have been swept away by the 3 or nothing superteams era that followed shortly after his injury. Everyone acts like he was a new MJ or Kobe whose career was derailed by his injury but he simply wasn't. At best he would've been another Russell Westbrook.

IMO - Derrick Rose will be a Hall of Famer. Might not be 1st ballot, but if the class is relatively weak he could be.
As mentioned the hall has pretty low standards and has so far let every (eligible) MVP winner in.
However, despite the DRFC I don’t believe he cracks top 100, nor do I think he is close to being “the biggest what if” - we saw what he was and that was pretty close to, if not his ceiling.
His game relied so heavily on his athleticism and quickness - without the major injuries, smaller ones would have seen that decrease. Even with major injury he wasn’t exactly motivated to change his game up.
D Rose always gonna be a HOF in my heart, he inspired me to play basketball. Thats all I need to know. Thanks for all your basketball D Rose!
simple answer: He is NOT a hall of famer, he had one good season, heck of a guy who had a ton of potential and is incredibly resilient, but he ain't no hall of famer. and the bar for the basketball hall of fame needs to be set higher.
Nah
The standard of the HOF is low cause it’s the basketball hall of fame

Great video Casey! I really enjoyed it, and as a D.Rose fan and bulls fan I really appreciate your insight and honesty about both. But if the league doesn’t put Rose in the HOF, then the bulls should at least retire his jersey number imo and here’s a short reason why..Rose is still beloved throughout Chicago. Ppl throughout the entire city and damn near the entire world, knows who this guy is..and that just shows how much of a positive impact he has on the national stage. Point is, D.Rose did so much at the early stages of his career and it’s only right for his hometown team to honor him in the best way possible and show just how much he means to the Bulls organization, and city of Chicago. Much love and respect again for the great work Casey!
Drose Won a MVP bc LeBron was the most hated player after leaving the cavs for not building around him

De Rose post injuries is a different player in a positive way, he didn't lost his touch. Rose evolved his game in hindsight to him being prone to injuries due to gameplay with athleticism being a big portion of it. so he didn't lose anything, he sacrificed his athleticism and came up with new ways to stay relevant, teams were not interested in him anymore not wanting to build around him or give him a real chance, the media as well were always waiting for a dunk or coast to coast finish to say "Vintage Rose" which didn't help neither.
Being the best player in the world at any sport should be straight into the hall of fame! Don’t care how long it lasted. He was a dominant force.
He was never the best player in the world. Lebron shut him down in the playoffs. But even setting aside LeBron, KD and even Dwight Howard were still better than him at that point. MVP is just as much to do with narrative as it is with who’s actually the best player on the best team.

Will he get in to HoF? who knows but he's a legend of the game regardless
"Preciate ya' doing this one Casey! I've been posting this question for years. 👊🏽
As much as we all love Derrick and he is a legend for what he did in his prime, just that as much as how quickly he hit his prime from the start so did his downfall. So even though his impact was immense during his 3 years prime time with the bulls, it was not lasting. We love him, he is one of my favorite pg of all time and a legend in the game and in our hearts, to me his impact was immense but not enough for him to end up in hall of fame. Now plzz do me a favor and read this but don’t respond geriatric
Now this might sound fishy, but the reason why he is so beloved by fans is because of how relatable he is.
A lot of basketball players (professional or not) go through injuries and difficulties in their careers. For me Derrick Rose was this guy that I looked up to when I was injured…he’s that guy who was at the top and fell off hardly down because of his injuries and yet never gave up on playing the game he always loved. He might didn’t come back as a good as he was physically but you could tell how much he grew as a person throughout his injuries. And this with no doubts is inspirational.
And for the question if he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, let me ask you another question!!!
How many players or better say point guards did we have that were so explosive and athletic like D Rose before he entered the league?
Like Steph, his playing style inspired generations to come…today we have Ja, SGA, De'Aaron Fox etc. All are point guards who somehow adapted this playing style. Don’t come at me with Kobe or MJ…both were Shooting Guards / Small forwards and AI was flashy but not that athletic🤷🏻♂️

he almost made two all star teams in 18-19 and 19-20. There were legitimate arguments that he should’ve made those all star teams while he was coming off the bench. He was ineligible for 6moty in detroit in 19-20 because he started a couple too many games. He was the consensus winner. In 18-19 he had better per 36 stats than his MVP season. When he was traded to the knicks in 2020-21 he started their massive winning streak right when he showed up, he helped shift that culture around. He was the only one that showed up in the playoffs in 2021. Only reason the Knicks had a playoff win in the years from 2014-2021.

If Derrick makes the HoF, then in my eyes Brandon Roy should too. I know most people would think that's nuts and they're not comparable, but they share more similarities than differences in their play, impact and the sheer lack of longevity with their durability, specifically with their knees. Brandon's impact went beyond local fans to Portland and Seattle - it permeated through the players, too. Kobe raved about Brandon. The best defenders of the time like Raja Bell consistently ranked him as the worst player to guard. Kobe both loved and hated going head to head with him for christ sake. Dude had the ability to carry the entire time offensively in the clutch, even with his dead knees & arthritis. BRoy and DRose have had a lasting impact on so many. If one makes it to the HoF, the other has to.
If Tracy McGrady is in the HoF.....Derrick Rose deserves to be in the HoF.
Ehh, 7x all-star, 7x all-NBA, 2x scoring champ, MIP is a pretty good resume ngl
Stop it! McGrady has way more points (18,381 vs. Rose's 12,573), and better average stats (McGrady averaged 19.6 / 5.6 / 4.4; Rose averaged 17.4 / 3.2 / 5.2). McGrady has way more All-NBA selections (7 vs. 1), and more All-Star selections (7 vs. 3). McGrady was also the league's 2-time scoring champion. I've been clicking on AM Hoops a lot more recently after not doing it for months, and now I'm remembering why I stopped clicking it. Basing this on b-ball reference is just a casual move, man. We all know their computations are purely weighted numbers based, and do not take into account the fact players get in the Hall all the time based on what they COULD have been w/o injuries and how much everyone loves them. T-Mac, Grant Hill, Bill Walton, Chris Bosh, Drazen Petrovic are just a few examples. There is no "they" here; no conspiracy against D. Rose. He might not be 1st ballot, but there's absolutely no way he doesn't get in.

Is there such a thing as an Honorary Hall of Fame? For great players that didn't reach their prime due to injuries? D-Rose would be an absolute prime candidate.
...there could be quite a few players in history that would be granted that award.
No matter what always a Legend
When talking about point guards, before the Curry-mania we were looking up to DRose and Rondo.
To be fair to Major League Baseball's 57 non-Hall of Famers, MLB hands out two MVP awards ever year, one for the American League and one for the National League. Prior to 1997, MLB felt closer to two different leagues not like two different conferences.
I meant Derrick Rose when I lived in Hawaii. He was super nice. Took a bunch of pictures hung out even played in basketball a couple of basketball games. I don’t play basketball so I watched but super nice guy.
Whats the difference between ballots and what are they?
He’s loved because:
1. A unique style that he elevated
2. The new toy effect that we never got to see (let’s be honest if he wasn’t injury prone and still had his hall of fame career y’all would have turned on Rose eventually. Y’all did it to kawhi, low key Duncan, Klay of the non-chalant star attitude)
3. LeBron hate was at its highest and people genuinely latch on to the guy who has the greatest chance
4. Hometown kid
5. He was on the smaller side
Its not about wanting or not wanting. If there was a HOF for guys who were just special people, yeah Rose would be in and Carmelo too for the New York years or whatever people want him in for. As an actual player, based on play and actually being on the court, Hell no Rose shouldn't even be allowed to come to any HOF ceremony.
Are we comparing Rose to Joe Dumars and Scottie Pippen...Uhm...How many rings does Rose have, again? I forgot..
D Rose is the people’s champ. That’s a title that is earned
His impact went beyond the court.. that's why people love him.. don't have no stats for that
Watching the skills/ speed of Rose was similar to watching Iverson
Rose had the WOW factor as much as any player ever.
