Show's doing its job. Getting a younger generation into Superman, a generation that thinks he's lame. Now people can't stop talking about it. And ik the Lois design is controversal, but the fact is, Tom boys are the new thing rn, especially in anime fandoms, and people are eating it up.

@@Music-vr7sz Pretty much is. I haven't seen this many people talk about Superman in years. It's already got its own fanbase going wild. Literally hasn't been this much Superman hype since idk when. Probably since Man of Steel. Not as much, but closest since that.

Jimmy Olsen in this show feels like a gay third wheel friend. You're spot on, this show was made for a twitter and tumblr audience. DC only care and put effort into animation when its Batman. The previous WB regime didn't give a damn about Superman.
Everything's made for Twitter these days. That's why it sucks. That's why we get shit adaptations in a time there should not be such a thing

I'd liked it. Long overdue for Superman to have his own animated show again.
That being said though this show does have potential and i am willing to see what's going to happen next with this superman show
Can only go off my personal anecdote but I watched it with my niece and she found the clock and door handle gag funny. I wasn’t huge on it since he’s like 23 or whatever but it seems to have landed for it’s target audience
It's from the people that brought you that Netflix She-Ra and produced when people were extra lame. Basically too much soy too wannabe anime. It's basically Superman: Returns if it kept going in that [wrong] direction. So of course Twitter likes it.
(Since we all know that Superman: Returns was originally going to be an action packed sci-fi adventure but Bryan Singer just got an itch to test himself and reworked the movie to be for, in his words, "The Devil Wears Prada" audience and made a chick flick with Superman.
Yeah, I really like it so far but I agree with you.
Hopefully it gets better because I’d be happy with a least a decent Superman animated series.
I watched both episodes and while I like it, it's rough around the edges. Clark and Lois' interactions were cute, and I like how Clark was handled, (besides the beginning where he's a clumsy oaf, that's annoying. I was honestly worried that when he went to save the cat he'd accidentally crush it), and I do like the action scenes. The issue I have that nobody else seems to have is the pacing. It all goes so fast as the characters quickly move from one scene to the next and with how fast the characters talk. And while I do get the different approach, it does happen too fast. From that point, I feel like the "they like each other, but they'll never admit it" plot will just unnecessarily drag on. One of the strengths of Lois liking Superman first is that while she starts falling for this powerful demigod, she ends up choosing the normal man that is Clark Kent. I don't think they'll do a different dynamic where she ends up getting over a normal dude for a super dude. Like, that just doesn't work. And I totally agree about Livewire and Deathstroke, they suck. They're completely different characters with names of famous characters. All in all, good show, but nothing fantastic like I see everyone else seemingly hyping it
I also agree deathstroke design and livewire design aren't really great and really confusing at least to me.

I honestly thought the show was pretty good. It’s not perfect, but it’s very entertaining. Jack Quaid makes for a great supes, and I’d definitely want to see more of him. Also, have you ever seen “Batman: the doom that came to Gotham”? I watched it recently, and I thought it was pretty out there, but I liked it. What are your thoughts on it?
Haven't seen it yet but if it's on HBO Max I'll probably get around to checking it out soon.
@@TheRealComicBookGamer It's on Max, yeah. Dick Grayson is not Dick Grayson, but that's the only real complaint I have about it.
I think there are two major problems:
1) Superman isn't invulnerable enough.
2) They're trying to complete reinvent the identities of marquis villains like Intergang (three petty thieves rather than an international Apokoliptan tech based crime ring), Livewire (no metahuman abilities, completely tech based), and Professor Ivo (Lex Luthor copy rather than an aging android designer). If you want to make a new villain, make a new villain; they did it in the DCAU with Livewire and Harley Quinn, both of whom became comic mainstays. There's a difference between creative liberty and just completely going rogue.
I said the same thing. I'm mixed on the show and I got downvoted on Reddit. I'm used to it. It's very Gen Z.

Lois has a pixie cut probably cos its somewhat low maintenance, signaling she's busy chasing stories instead of Chad's
I honestly enjoyed my adventures with Superman so far. It actually seems to understand Superman at his core, even though he is clearly a rookie superhero. He just doesn't fully understand the full extent of his powers. It's even implied that Clark hasn't fully accessed his powers, as he's only shown some level of super strength, some level of super speed, some level of invulnerability, and flight. Can't wait for him to unlock most of his powers. I also like the relationship between Lois and Clark, but I don't think that there is anything wrong with this version of Jimmy. He's just an alien conspiracy theorist that seems to be the audience surrogate. I can't wait for more from this Jimmy. I also like the design and personality of this version of Livewire. I can't wait for more from my adventures with Superman.
Personally for me I was hoping we could've gotten that superman family animated series with Clark kent and Lois lane having there son Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self going on silver age stories back in 2018 because that show could've been really awesome and tons of fun but no we didn't get that show which is a shame because that show looked really awesome and tons of fun but that's just my opinion.

@@aguy4326 i guess but honestly I have a sneaking suspicion that if this show would've come out which for the record i would've been all for that because that show looked amazing and fantastic, especially as a huge fan of the superman family it looked liked everything I ever wanted especially seeing Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self and Damian wayne robin going on fun adventures which looked great and fantastic, that show would made a bank and probably a huge hit for not just kids but for adults too. However instead of getting this amazing show what we were suppose to get, some higher up at WB rejected this show because they probably believe a superman happy isn't fun but boring and we want are superman be angry 24/7 to which in my opinion really sucks and just feels like a big slap in the face for us Superman fans myself included but that's just my opinion.
Probably just an visual tic for the anime fans and with that they are aping the powerups from DBZ style...kinda they are going for goofy humor from anime and some shojo [girls anime art style] Probably due to the romance elements for the show considering the Lois and Clark....
Honestly,I really like the show so far. Though I will admit there are some things that probably were'nt needed or seemed odd like the transformation sequence (even if I actuallly enjoyed that scene) , Jimmy could have been toned down just a little and as for Slade's portrayal....I'll give this version of him the benefit of the doubt and it's gonna take sone time for me to get use to him but it seems but feels like they're trying to build up to become something more traditional Deathstroke but I don't know sure yet.I can see alot of potential for this to be a great Superman series as it continues we'll need to see. So far, it gives me The Batman 2004 vibes. Faux anime style DC, with some random character reduxes. I liked it so far, but I hope the animation budget increases for season 2 and some of the voice acting improves.
That is a great comparison, especially because The Batman (2004) changed and did a lot of different takes on the characters.
My Thoughts on the Show is That It's a terrible Portrayal of superman but a great portrayal of Clark Kent mainly because everything that made superman superman is mostly changed juristically besides his personality. Not to mention that Lois lane is bassicaly a new character Instead of having a Stubborn girlboss we get a Overly positive and Hyperactive character on the level Of a modern Disney cartoon .To Say Short the Changes to the superman lore is bizarre But it is a show that is Wholesome Endearing and Adorkable so im excited to see were this goes.
Besides Red and Blue, I think a better basis for the electricity stuff is that Clark’s strength, durability and flight actually does work from bio-electric aura. That was a thing first in early Post-Crisis with Byrne, Morrison’s All Star explored how it could evolve and recently PKJ’s AC had him make a Susanoo with it fighting Metallo.

Well, I'm not a fan of raceswapped Jimmy Olsen and Perry White and of tomboyish Lois Lane at all nor of Superman electric powers. I didn't like this version of Slade/Deathstroke as well. However I must admit that while I'm not fond of the art style, the animation is nice and the action is well done. Overall, I'm quite mixed about that show.
If they commit on the Full Scale over the top battles and this would be a hit, with the Heart of Superman and his fist, take my money.
let's not fool ourselves, we know the impact of a good animated fight, this is the reason Shonnen is a hit and literally OPM and DB is nothing but slugfest shows nowadays it barely has story just excuse to have a climactic fight and it f'cking works, Superman has the story and that would benefit and justify a good action set pieces
We can have best of both worlds the Classic Heartfelt and the Modern Heart pumping fights.

Cartoon Network is in a really weird place right now and WBD wants to push Max and Adult Swim so I’m guessing that’s why they’re putting it out on there

I believe the reason the show is premiering on HBO MAX and Adult Swim is because they can't show Superman dating a little boy on children's tv

Based off what you said and the marketing I saw before this came out, I think I’ll sit this one out and just focus my time on watching the better versions of Superman. No thanks HBO.

8:17 honestly, I think Ray swapping is a case by case basis. It just depends on the character in the story itself. As it at the story makes it prevalent in relevant of the characters race. The character should be said race. However, there are some characters who is race does not matter. Frankly, I see Jimmy as one of those characters. I feel like people get to up in arms over race swapping.
"Why is a show designed for kids on Adult Swim"... probably because the people in charge are clueless. They see kids TV shows from the 90's like Batman and Superman TAS (which were made for kids) and thought they were made for adults. Shows for "kids" on CN is now for kids ages 3-5. Anything that skews for kids over the age of 5 is considered "adult"....🙄.
This show isn't great. Also they took the worst villain from Superman TAS (Livewire) and somehow made her worst, and also the villain you start your show with? Not smart at all....

Black jimmy is the lesser of two evils🤷♂️ but in all honesty the show feel like watch what's new scooby doo. I wish they could make the version of deathstroke is kid as it would fit more with his edge(air quote) look but it work overall there plenty of stuff in the show to make up for it's short comings. The show a 7.5/10 for me
I really loved the first two episodes (mostly because I want an optimistic Superman), but most of your points I can at least empathize with. Good review as usual, even if it was a bit more scathing than I expected. Respectfully agree to disagree 🫡

1:49 preach, brother. I loved Superman: Blue but that line of thinking is like making DCEU Batman like Frank Miller Batman and justifying it by saying “it’s based on a comic.” Those comics were far from perfect so it’s wise to adapt the best version of these characters rather than blindly following very mid concepts and stories for the sake of doing so.
This is clearly a different take on Superman,I actually like this deathsroke, clearly a very younger version and he will probably get his suit and swords later

The show looks very unappealing which is why I'll just watch you review instead lol. The anime look doesn't look very good for one of comic/cartoons biggest characters. Cool that they experimented i guess but for me not everything needs to be an anime lol. I like the look of comics and cartoons as they are, if i wanna watch actual Japanese anime I'll watch that instead of this modern and common amerime style, feels cheap or like try hard kind of. Idk, only amerime style i liked was Avatar the last Airbender, the original teen titans had some anime influences but the overall art design looked comic book cartoony if that makes sense

Lois might look like a little boy to y'all lol but she looks like a typical young Tom boy anime woman shonen archetype to most people. Like she's literally ripped straight from a manga panel. I dunno if it was meant to appeal to Tumblr and I dunno anything about that crowd but it's definitely meant to appeal to anime fans. Like I said, she looks pretty much identical to every by the numbers shonen tomboy ever. So much so that I'm surprised the complaints aren't about how copy and paste her design is

For real, that was Deathstroke!? I couldn't tell, he looked *terrible* . Livewire looks trash too, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White also don't look good. Why do most of the characters look different? I'm black and I hate swapping and bending. I find Jimmy annoying and unfunny, bad voice acting, guess actor was picked on talent. Why did they race-swap Livewire, Jimmy, Perry, etc.? I saw Silver Banshee's design for this show as well and it's going to look like just as bad if not worse as the others. They have "tech" powers instead of meta powers too. Why must the voice actors look like the characters, instead of using how they look in the comics. Superman seems, nerfed and weaker. People aren't being honest with the show like you are. Clark was likeable I guess and his costume was OK. Edit: I think sadly the villains are gonna suck.

The most that bothers me about this show is lois lane's character design really bad design I think they race swapped her as latina I think lois flat out looks like grown up main character of the owl house if your gona race swap her could've put more effort at make her recognizable enough my cousin is mexican american and she looks more like lois lane just add glasses
Just because something doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it's bad or wrong in any way. Keep an open mind. Don't rush to conclusions just after watching two episodes. By the end of the season most of the creative choices will pay off.
I saw one drawing of Superman with girly blush and the f****** eyes and that was enough to write it off entirely. Of course I'd already seen Tyrone Olsen in the trailer.

Schedule looks an abomination and also that Tomboy bs that they are the trend is just lying, most popular girls are Oshi no Ko who has no tomboy, Tatsumaki from OPM, Maki from JJK maybe, Rent a Girlfriend no, Komi san not, Yor not, if they can kick your butt they do not need to look like a tomboy so that point is denied also Deathstroke is just Stroke.

I've been a hardcore Superman fan since I was a kid. I can officially say they have killed the character. I no longer care about it. I'm looking forward to Gunn's take bombing and the flurry of excuses. I also hope this show with Sailor Superman dating his little brother no thanks.
If you're looking for good Superman content check out the current on-going comic book titles. Both Superman and Action comics are great right now.
It’s so bad it killed my love of the franchise. Not like killed it more like it’s now in hyber nation. This and pedo James Gunn just makes me done. Also a future episode of Superman explaining his pronouns to kids in SONG?!! That’s what you tak about in a interview to attract viewers?! Bleh!
