  • What to do with your warm season lawn at the end of winter?
    You have some choices but with the growing season starting I like to open up the lawn canopy and lightly dethatch. This is a great thing to do for a few reasons.
    1. Let's air, water and nutrients get to the ground easier.
    2. Promotes weed growth for easy post emergent treatment.
    3. Promotes new healthy lawn growth.
    Sure, doing this will lawn look a bit drab for a while but we are getting the lawn ready for renovation. This is a great time of year to put some granular fertiliser down ready for the plant going out of growth dormancy as the ground temperature increases with the warmer spring weather.
    Four Seasons by Lawnporn is a great product for use at this time of year.

    Hey Matt, I note u applied four seasons start of august, still very much winter. What were your average temperatures then because I note granulars don’t break down unless it’s warm enough? I imagine temps are warmer where u are then sydney? Clearly they did break down and work based on how green your lawn was 2 weeks later? Or does four seasons work at anytime of the year…..? Thanks

    • @lawnporn

      Weather was very unseasonably warm here. Went from to coldest winter to the hottest August on record.

      @@lawnporn thanks Matt. So again, the granulars will only work if temps are warm enough, right? Sydney is consistently above 22 these days, many random 25,27,28 days as well, very warm for end of august. Worth throwing four seasons dont now? just don’t want it to go to waste. Just did my buffalo scalp as well a little early!

      @@lawnporn should I scalp my buffalo grass this time of year and then add some four seasons to it, I’m not sure if scalping is good for buffalo grass, I hate it with all the runners that I get from it and I’ve tried mowing it at different heights, I wanted Queensland couch but the guy who did our landscaping talked me out of it, I should of stood my ground 😢. TIA can’t wait for our Spring/Summer weather up here in Queensland.

    • @lawnporn
      @lawnporn  Месяц назад +1

      @@-nellie-m3711 buffalo yeah I’m not a fan of it is slower growing and more difficult to renovate as it only has above ground runners.
      If you have positive growth then it means your temperatures and conditions are suitable then you can give it a scalp and put some four seasons down. If you can during your scalp, cut some runners out to thin it out a bit, aerate and top dress will go a long way to the turf quality overall.
