Hi Dan, another great video! In some situations (ie golf courses) isn’t it the case that you can actually see the verticut lines quite distinctively, I believe they do it in the direction of play to help the ball run on better. The process you are doing here we in Australia would call grooming. The reel you are using does actually look like a grooming reel as there are many blades and they are close together, as opposed to a vericutting reel that has less blades that are spaced apart further.

I have made the mistake of scarifying my lawn and it has been a minor disaster. Chunks of grass and thatch came up. I have over seeded but I suspect it will not take and I will have a lot of moss to try and control over winter. I’ll do it in spring next year to make sure the lawn has time to recover.

Hello Daniel, living in southern Sweden and I am so envious on your lawns. You get them lawns growing so dense and thick.
In my lawn I can see the sandy loam between the grass everywhere even after a season with love, care, sweat and tears. I have areated, verticutted and leveled off an old lawn and dressed the lawn (without care for 15 years). I am putting on granulated fertilizer regularly, giving Iron 2-3 times a season and cutting every 2-3 days on 20-25 mm. I have reseeded parts of the lawn but my problem is that new grass have difficulty growing. The ground is a sandy loam and the lawn have not seen any organic material in a long time so I presume that water and fertilizer is going more or less straight through without having the chanse to help the little grass that is growing there. My question is, it is the last week of september but would it be beneficial for the grass to dress the lawn this late in the season to help restoring organic matter into the lawn for the next coming season?? Would love your opinion on this matter. (really southern Sweden, expecting first frost mid november).
Love your videos, specially this one cause in Sweden everybody is talking verticutting, many times not differentiating between the two expressions but always meaning scarifying, so good explenation and I apreciate all your tips and tricks.

Excellent video again Daniel, thanks! I wish I'd waited before scarifying my lawn last Thursday!! I had some areas of grass that had got too thick and were almost what I'd call matted so when I saw the weather forecast being excellent for the next week or so I decided to go over those areas with a pretty deep scarify in an attempt to thin it out and get back to being able to see soil between the grass blades. Maybe I overdid it for the time of year as you very accurately put, but, at the moment it's looking like I may have got away with it (more by luck than judgement) as it does seem to be coming back fairly nicely. Thanks to your videos, I have got my old man's lawn looking amazing. Unfortunately, squirrels have other ideas and are digging up holes to hide nuts. Aside from hiring Bill Murray and going full "caddy shack" on the little bast*rds, is there anything you can do?

Scarifying in Autumn is fine as long as you're overseeding.

Another great video Dan. You use ‘the old faithful’ for deep scarifying but you have the Allett scarifying cartridge which works quite differently. How would you decide to use one rather than the other?
