She knew that she could do nothing for now but kill all of them later. she put all the faces in her memory and came back to kill all of them after destryoing their plan to do what they wanted to do.
I took the "faces-scene" differently: She watched those guys, whom she remembered as brothers she grew up with, was trained since early childhood. She was in some conflict about it. But in the face of the one person she loved most on Earth, her husband, she pushed the feelings towards her "fake brothers" into the sea-water.
What I love about scenes like this are the tiny details. When they open the hatch and she first sees her husband, not that she can't hide her cheeks muscles from clenching just a tad. She wants to scream out, but she also knows that in that situation, there's absolutely nothing she can do to save him.
Just watching this scene for the first time. Did the husband know that she couldn't save him or else they'd kill her. So did he just accept his fate knowing that with his wife alive, she would avenge his death?
The husband didn't know she was a spy but loved and trusted her so you get the message in the beginning of the movie that he would want her to save herself and innocent lives.
I think anyone who was locked up in that hole seeing all the armed guards next to her would see she can't do anything. But that doesn't mean you are cool with drowning either.
He only knew she worked for the CIA, which that alone meant his life would always be in danger, but he didn't care about that as he told her in so many words
They were staring right at each other, he saw her tears, but he also knew that if she tried to save, him, he would be dead anyway, they'd shoot her and then him. The fact that he doesn't wiggle or try to get free indicates that he realized that she had to watch him die, because only she had the chance to make it out alive. He also most likely was aware she would avenge his death.
this is a way more powerful scene than him just being immediately shot. there's actual gravitas to this emotionally. it would have made the movie better.
This scene should with the revenge part, but do agree this others in the version I've seen her husband was suddenly shoot - and it was more effective and suitable, less moral discussions concerning moral behavior of Salt
This is a different version. In another version which most people have likely seen more of, she walks into the room and he's shot immediately. To the folks wondering why she didn't attempt to save him is because she was outgunned at the time. Notice while she was being 'escorted' she is scoping out the area making note of the position of all the guards because she's going to kill them all using the element of surprise.
This scene is far more brutal. She gets to not only watch him slowly drown, but it gives her husband the time to ask all these questions in his head "why is she here?" "she's not trying to save me" "why is she looking at me like this" "so she must have never loved me, it was all a ruse" sort of thing. Which makes it harder for both of them, as she needs to watch him slowly suffer while being helpless meanwhile he feels betrayed by her.
@@Joejoe-dd2sc IMO she doesn't have to...... instead, she'd attempt the impossible and be neutralized, but taking down as many russians she possibly can..... the director's cut .... :)
i do think that she really fell in love with him despite him being a cover-up of sorts. and when they rescued her from north korea was what started her feelings becoming real
I'ved watched partly-clips of this film,,&I guess is a very good revenge-for- vengeance movie.awesome performance of course by award-winning actress ms.Angelina Jolie. 👍
I'm watching the movie right now because i haven't seen it in awhile, and just got to this scene. I've never scene it before... although i do like the emotion of this scene, i do believe him being shot immediately with no warning was a better test. Either way, 10/10 for this movie regardless of which death scene you choose.
They had all their weapons pointed at her. I think they kind of expected her to fight back and save him, so there was no point bc they'd both end up dead. The only thing she could do was watch her husband slowly drown knowing that she could get vengeance later.
They expected her to react they were def going to shoot her the second she moved to try and save him. When she didn't they let their guard down so she could get some vengence.
this is not just a movie. Sadly, this scene is far too real. In the conflict between Russia and the US the german guy is the victim. And not to speak of those sacrificing their loved ones.
this scene felt better with the ending part...i just saw the alternative version of his deadth and is soulless...like has no impact...just a shot on her heart but this is cruel so she went more cruel with them...
I haven't seen this movie, but it's easy to see why this scene would not have made the final cut. (Considering that most comments point out that in the final cut, he gets shot immediately.) Salt comes off as far too cold and unsympathetic. It even seems like she sacrifices her husband to save her own life. I know, she's outgunned and is gonna avenge him and so on and so forth, but these things kind of don't count when it's your loved one's that are on the line. She could have plead for his life. She could have tried something stupid and get herself killed. She just gave up instead, being convinced that there was nothing she could do. This is not the right kind of scene if you want the audience to be on your protagonist's side.
This scene was epic. She tried to hold the tears as she saw her husband drowning so they trust her completely. Omg
Well done sherlock

great acting by Angie! Even with just her eyes and facial expressions

I love this version of this scene paired with her revenge alternate ending. It’s perfect
Yes those two alt were shows here in Brazil but in US they were not main but alt in the Dvd
YES YES YES !!!! Pls Angie make a sequel PLEASE ! We mix your presence on the big screen !
Yes but they won't probably 😁
It's been 13 yrs. Not saying it couldn't work but Hollywood has a strange habit of dragging things out.

Diane Keaton as Charlie, the actress recruited as a spy by Mossad in "Little Drummer Girl," was awesome too!

I'm seeing this alternate scene for the first time. and It makes her rage that much more justified then the other version.
Sometimes a sequel is made when there is no reason, this time there were all the elements for a sequel and it didn't happen.

Great movie! She's much older now. They should have made a sequel sooner.
Why? They could make a sequel now and time has passed..

Yea same, I could have sworn they shot him
I never understand, finally she loved her husband or not??
You don't remember because in theatrical release they shot him.
She does loves him or cares deeply for him, he did broke her out of jail n she was very suprise,

Yes. Is an alternate scene.

weird how alot of comments are saying they saw the version of him getting shot, while this version is the one they showed on HBO.
This isn't in the theatrical version, at least not the one I saw
If you search "Evelyn Salt #2 - Revenge" on youtube you'll see the version of him being shot.
I watched just recently the other version of him being shot
Wait there are 2 versions of this. One where her husband is shot and this one where he drowns?

Recently, Salt in Netflix has a very different scene from this one, only this scene is different. And I like the Neflix version better.
But I saw in film they shoot her husband...
So I did
You're not going mad. The husband was definitely shot in the version I saw! Watch out for this kind of thing....don't doubt yourself!

Never understood why she watched him die and then decided to kill everyone there. She could have simply saved him and killed everyone.
They had all their weapons pointed at her. I think they kind of expected her to fight back and save him, so there was no point bc they'd both end up dead. The only thing she could do was watch her husband slowly drown knowing that she could get vengeance later.
A bunch of highly skilled fighters like her. And she’s alone, the best bet is to let your enemies guard down
Any suggestion about how she could have saved him, regarding his situation, trapped, down in the pit ?
She didn't know the "plan" yet. She couldn't kill them until they trusted her enough to tell her what the next steps were going to be.
They expected her to react they were def going to shoot her the second she moved to try and save him. When she didn't they let their guard down so she could get some vengence.
I talked with angie before the film was released great outcome
Such a scene!
Whoa in the theater they shot him
100%. that's not the version I saw when I watched it online! He got shot. There was no drowning.
That's why theatrical versions are always better.
There’s 2 versions. I watched the one where he get shot and im currently watching the one where he drowns
Strange that, the Amazon Prime version of this, the husband is shot instead.
