Rather than creating a new config file, you can edit the default config file so you don't need to reload said file each time you open the app. The default file is in /storage/emulated/0/android/data/"corresponding retroarch app folder". Thanks!
I was going nuts trying to find my sd card in Retroarch. I initially thought my card was currupted, but every other app worked just fine with it. This video saved me from so much grief and agita! Thank you so much.
It's not a Samsung issue, it's an Android 11 issue as it now has forced Scoped Storage which causes issues with applications not yet updated to the new Scoped Storage APIs. Apps that aren't updated yet will not be able to access external storage. This works on all Android 11 devices with external storage as a workaround, it's not a fix. Also no need to create a new config file that you have to load every time you load up RetroArch, I modified the config file in "Android/data/com.retroarch.aarch64/files" which loads by default.
@@OniKyanAE86 Uhhh... What does that have to do with Android 11? Android 10 is infinitely better than this because of the freedom but THIS? Its just disappointing. I chose Android devices because it doesn't have restrictions unlike the IOS but damn.
HUGE HUGE THUMBS up... thank you so much for putting this out there... I have been struggling with this issue for quite some time. So glad to have it resolved.
Thanks was going crazy too.. just finding a fix.. you do it simple and straight forward. Works on Android of any type... mine Shield TV Pro... made me smile!
Thank you so much its not just for SamSung also its the same for Redmi phones, This was a life saver. I thank you so much sir. Everything was easy to follow and understand for a novice or expert user. Since I had both the plus version and normal I had to do this a few times. So thank you again sir.
If you modify the 'retroarch.cfg' file located in 'Android\data\com.retroarch.aarch64\files' with the same process you describe you dont have to do it every time.
Thank you for helping us, indeed suck about Android 11 or above. I have cheap Samsung Tab 7a Lite only have 32Gb of internal storage will not have enough room for all stuff like music, pictures even video too. I following your instruction and it's work like charm!
Thank you very much for the information, I just put a new 128GB micro SD card and dumped all of the SMS, Genesis, NES, SNES and Turbografx complete libraries on it and I couldn't even access the games. Even if we save the configuration, will we have to do this process again?
Hello Sometimes for a few roms i can't scan the folders because if i scan i have no results, so i have to use manualy analysis (the 3rd option) and finaly , i find the roms in my extern sd cards (ex: Pc engine CD) Here when i use manualy scan i stay always in my storage intern card and i should want to go in my extern card to find my extern roms
Retroarch version 1.9.2 config file is in a different folder, android data then sort by recents and click on the folders till you see the config file Update; to load the confi file in retroarch in 1.9.2 change folder location of config file to location in this vid, save the config settings as new and then edit your location of your external memory card, then startup retroarch load config file and you can access your games this way
Google created the issue on purpose. They download spyware to track our online activity and sell it to advertisers they hide the folders so we can't delete the spyware without special software.
No it doesn't require root, it might be your system is hiding it in which I suggest get a recently updated file manager app. If you explain more what's on your end I might be able to be more helpful.
From a skid you legend quick question if anyone sees this on Such old video, can't we just rename the config and replace the original? Noob question ovs 🤭
Thanks for the video. But I'm still looking for the same sd solution for some of the higher end emulators like dolphin citra PPsspp. If anyone knows a video for those it would be appreciated!
Very helpful. At least i don't have to move all my retro games to internal sd. So I can keep my storage space from running out. Retroarch need to update it file browser.
IT wont work due to later versions of android.... CFW maybe, but if your device i think is android 10 or younger you wont run into this and it will work perfect @@pedro1985_

Very useful information. I followed your advice and it is a lot better.
Thank you!!!
just save current config after you had done that so that you will not load it all over again
Just asked that question as didn't see this answer thank you

But.... i don´t have any way to put applications on sd?, and be functional?
Awesome tutorial. Very clear, concise, and ultra descriptive and easy to follow. I wish all tutorials where half as good as this. Great job.
Man, you rock. Thank you so much. Wtf is wrong with android 11? Lol
Good news. RetroArch 1.10.1 was just released, and one of the features for Android was fixing the support for the SD card files in the app.
Thank goodness this issue really hung around
Just wanted to let you know that 2 years later this is still an issue and your fix still works! Thank you so much 😀
Thank you so much for this workaround! I bought an SD card just thinking it would work and I could use it for ROMs, silly me lol
i did the same thing. dont you just hate android omg. it was hard enough sorting it out to have files larger then 4gb

For some reason my sd card name is 0000-0000, so when I put that and load it in retroarch, the app crashes :/
