When you started doing this I suddenly 💡 realised what you were going to do. I’ve sewn “forever” & never ever thought of this method. What a great idea & lovely clean finish. 👍
great video -- used to do this when I was a student and sewing my own clothes --- no overlocker in those days -- will remember to use it again .. also used to finfer roll the seam but can see the thang is so helpfiul!
I’m a self taught sewer and have been sewing for a very long time. I am amazed at the tips and trick I have learned from you. I am also an expat from Yorkshire so I enjoy your accent. It’s a little bit of home. Thanks for this awesome channel.
Excellent way of doing a facing, this will be my way from now on. It looks so neat. Thank you. I have got that foot, but didn’t know how to use it thanks again.
Wow so simple yet effective Thankyou so much I will always use this method in future I watch hundreds of sewing stuff and have never come across this method love it ✂️xx
I love this! I was looking for a quick, clean finish for a garment I'm making and now I can't imagine not doing this. I'm keen on enclosed finishes and this one is lovely!
This is BRILLIANT!! I am worried a little about stretching the neckline with that much handling, but I think a staystitch would solve that problem and make it extra neat!
I love this technique. I first saw it many years ago watching Nancy Zeiman, who had a popular sewing show here in the United States fir many years. Any time I’m forced to do facings, which I hate to have in my garments, I try to use this technique. Thanks for sharing! I enjoy your videos!
What a great idea. I have an overlooker but don't like the finish on facings. I am making an Ashton Top which I have bias bound the facing. The Ashton doesn't use inter facing but you could do.
This is great! I don't have an overlocker and as a new sewist, my zigzag stitch to finish the edges isn't always very neat. Just cut out my fabric for an indigo so will be giving this method a go!
Thank you Lucy, that's much nicer than an overlocked edge 😊. Now I just need a Tefal steam generator and a stiletto like yours, and to find the Janome seam guide that I bought from you a while back but never used!
Perfect! Thank you so much. Wish I had seen this a week ago before I faced my Ruffle Sleeve Top. Why settle for okay when there's a better way. I believe I just made a rhyme!
Wow, I don't think I would have ever come up with this idea. But I will absolutely be using it. Many thanks for the tutorial. Do you have any American sewers ordering material and patterns, etc?
This is a great idea and will be using it from now on. However how would the facing work if there was a zip to be inserted down the back of say a dress? Would it be put together in just the same only with the back facing in two pieces? Love to know what you think. Thank you :)
Thanks Barbara, you can actually sew a French seam on an armole, you just sew it wrong sides together first with 1/4" seam then sew it right sides together with a 3/8" seam to create a 5/8" seam overall. I promise I will do a tutorial on this soon, I have another one ready to go first, but will do the French seam after.
It is a Tefal steam generator iron, but I don't think that model is available any more. I have another more recent one at home that I use there though and I think any of the Tefal steam generators are good.
Hi there! Loved learning this technique for finishing facings. Question: do you think the clear seam guide foot you have on your Husqvarna would work on a Brother sewing machine? Thanks!
Hi Rhonda, so glad you liked the video thanks. I definitely wouldn't recommend using a Husqy foot on your Brother or any other make at all. We do stock a wide range of Brother feet and you might be able to find something similar if you have a look on the site.
I have not seen the markings for seaming or a foot as reasonably sized on any of the Brother feet like the Husqvarna. Brother has a clear foot with seam markings, but it is really wide on both sides of shank. Tape... 🤨
Looks great, Lucy, so neat! What model number is your machine? I presume you sell it. I don’t live near you, I’m in Cheshire, how would it work for guarantee/ service if I bought a machine from you. I have an old Janome, which is a great machine but I would love to upgrade! Thanks
Hi Mary, I'm so glad you liked it and exciting news about your potential upgrade. My machine is a Husqvarna Designer Diamond, which sadly has been discontinued, but we have some lovely machines on the site that would include the features I was talking about. You can find all of our Husqvarna machines here (I have 2 Huskys and love them both) www.sewessential.co.uk/sewing-machines-and-accessories/sewing-machines/husqvarna-viking-sewing-machines I would recommend considering from the Jade up if you want the sorts of features I talk about. In terms of warranties and guarantees you would get the same cover as if you bought from a bricks and mortar store and we provide after sales service if you need any support. If you would like any more info at all or to discuss further just drop us an email at sales@sewessential.co.uk
I think this is a great way of finishing a facing but what I can't visualise is how you then attach it to the garment. Could you please explain this? Thanks
When you started doing this I suddenly 💡 realised what you were going to do. I’ve sewn “forever” & never ever thought of this method. What a great idea & lovely clean finish. 👍
Thanks Jo I was the same, it never occurred to me before, but it was so obvious once I knew it! So glad you like it too.
Why didn’t I ever think of this!!!
I'm definitely pinching that technique. Who knew? well I do now. Brilliant thankyou.
Haha that's it Annette, another string to your sewing bow.

Excellent idea. I don't have an overlocker so this will be my way of finishing my savings going forward. Thank you for this great idea
So pleased it was helpful to you Joanne.
Thank you! My daughter is sensitive, and this is a great solution.thank you
So glad it will be helpful to you both.

Wow that's great to hear it was such an original idea for you, I'm so glad i shared this now.
This is definitely how I will be doing facings from now on. Thank you for sharing this technique
It's a pleasure Meg I'm so glad it was useful for you.
Really helpful. I don't have an overlocker and usually turn under a tiny hem around my facings. This looks even better, Thank you .
Great, I'm so glad it will be useful to you.
That is an absolute game changer! Thank you so much for this tutorial! ❤
Old (very) dog, new tricks, comes to mind! Brilliant, thank you.
Oh Avril, I'm so pleased it was useful for you, thank you.

Oh wow I never saw the Nancy Zieman video and thanks for the lovely feedback about ours, much appreciated.
Thank you for this tutorial from Switzerland
It's a pleasure, thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for this I am a new sewer and I couldn’t find anywhere what to do with raw edges
What a great idea. I have an overlooker but don't like the finish on facings. I am making an Ashton Top which I have bias bound the facing. The Ashton doesn't use inter facing but you could do.
So glad it was useful to you Jayne.
What a fantastic idea 👍
So glad you like it, really glad I shared it now.

Yay! Perfect, so glad to be able to help someone starting out on their sewing journey too - enjoy!
This is genius!! I love your turning tool, too!
Thanks Tammy, yes that little tool is so incredibly useful I have to admit, I use it all the time for easing in sleeves too or keeping gathers even.
Hi Lucy! This is a fantastic technique! Beautifully done! 😊❤👍
Thanks Patricia, I'm so glad you liked it.
Thank you ,that is great way to finish the neck band.x
Thanks for your lovely feedback I'm glad so many people have found it useful and interesting.
Brilliant idea. Beautiful finish. Thankyou. 😍
It's a pleasure, thanks so much for the lovely feedback.
This is so great. Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic, thank you so much for showing this technique and it's definitely on my try list 😁👍
That's great news Diane, I'm sure it will work brilliantly for you.
I love this and will be trying it today. I also just recommended your video on Princess seams this morning to someone on facebook.
Great technique! Thank you for sharing, Lucy. Looking forward to seeing you model your pretty, new dress!
Thanks so much Alecia, i've just recorded the vlog which will air either next week or the week after from memory.
Genius method, thanks!
Thank you Lucy, that's much nicer than an overlocked edge 😊. Now I just need a Tefal steam generator and a stiletto like yours, and to find the Janome seam guide that I bought from you a while back but never used!
Brilliant idea!
Thank you so much.
Wow that was a brilliant demo ,thank you
Wow, great technique
Thank you I'm so glad you like it.
Excellent. Thank you. Great video.
You are welcome!
What a helpful tip!
Beautiful idea!!!!! 💡
Thank you! 😊I loved it too when I found it.
Probably can use the same technique on armhole facings? I'm going to give it a try ☺️
I don't see why not, you could always do a test first on some scraps.
Yes we do all the time and thank you.
Very nice.
Thank you
Great idea!
Great idea!!! 💡
Genius! Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍😘😘😘
Just like what you would do to the interfacing before we had fusible interfacing.
This is a great idea and will be using it from now on. However how would the facing work if there was a zip to be inserted down the back of say a dress? Would it be put together in just the same only with the back facing in two pieces? Love to know what you think. Thank you :)
TFS Lucy! This is so neat. I love using french seams on some garments but my question is how can you finish seams like armholes/sleeves neatly?
Thanks Barbara, you can actually sew a French seam on an armole, you just sew it wrong sides together first with 1/4" seam then sew it right sides together with a 3/8" seam to create a 5/8" seam overall. @@SewEssential thx!
What was the name of your iron. It looks amazing.
Nice idea!
Thank you I'm so glad it was useful to you.
What is the brand name and model name/number of the iron you used in the video? Thanks
I’m hoping for that info too! Thanks for asking.
It appears to be a Tefal iron at 13 min 50 seconds and says pro express... I believe
It is a Tefal steam generator iron, but I don't think that model is available any more. I have another more recent one at home that I use there though and I think any of the Tefal steam generators are good.
One of those "lightbulb" moments! (I'm a non-overlocker, and don't really like the finish they give anyway).
That's great to hear it will be useful for you Catherine, thanks for the feedback.
Genius! Tx.
So glad you liked it.

wow!
Glad you liked it.
I would not sew the interfacing just lay it over the fabric facing
