"I just want to love you in my own language" is one of the most beautiful lines I've ever heard
Make so much sense to me. Be understood and understand the one you love. Find someone you know how to talk to and who knows what words to use to talk to you too.
A secret of life has been revealed. Speak and find the one that listens to You.
Can you please explain to me what is this line means at the context of the song? I’m not an English speaking person and I’m afraid that I can’t get it not because of metaphor but because of bad language knowing and bad understanding of the whole lyrics of the song
@@sibkhan2364 So the lines before are "oh these three worn words, that we whisper, like the rubbing hands of tourists in Verona". In Verona there is a statue of Juliet, and an old legend states that rubbing the statue brings your relationship good luck. Sadly, the rubbing hands of so many tourists desperate to bless their relationship have eroded the statue, and now access is restricted. So the message is those three worn words (3ww) of "I love you" are said so often and potentially insincerely in order to force a relationship to work, maybe out of pressure, like the desperation to rub the statue, and have ruined the meaning like this erosion. Thus the lead singer wants to "love him/her in his own language", free from the outside pressure, clichéd ways and desperation to make the relationship work. Something meaningful to him and them.
@@JB-pi9mf Thanks for the explanation. Not the OP, but it is gold dust to find meaningful responses in RUclips comments.
i need to find a soulmate to love as much as i love alt-j & their music
This song reminds me of what it is to be in love
Love will get you killed
I was thinking just the same, you're not alone!!
plenty of fish in that sea bro
LNA be with me
When I lost my friend in a car accident I lost interest in all of my music, a few years later now I played along to this song with my cello for the first time in 5 years. A tear fell down my eyes, I was never one for showing emotions but this touched me deeply, I truly miss him.
this must sound amazing on Cello. You have to record and share
Know that he was most definitely with you in that moment and still is whenever you think of him. Your souls both connected through the vibration of your music as your love/subconscious intention sent out a vibrational chord to him. Quantum entanglement. Know that you are always connected and he is always with you💗
💛🌙💛🌙💛🌙💛
Music is your own language. Cherish it.
"love is just a button we pressed last night by the campfire." such a good line.
It really is. It shows how it was just said and thrown about because they dont truly love eachother.
I had this playing and was scrolling through other things on my phone, came back to this and your comment was at the top, at precisely the moment this lyric was sung. If that’s not synchronicity I don’t know what is.
Poppppppppppppppppppp
alt-J keeps getting better.
Mhm. An Awesome Wave is like their best album.
was expecting a trippy video but wow, this tugged at my heart strings. alt-j has done it again (yet I'm surprised).
You might want to watch 'Breezeblocks'
Patrick Abraham I have! Love it
3WW= Three Worn Words
The 3 words= I LOVE YOU
Why worn? Because people tend to overuse it and some don't even truly mean it.
"I Just want to love you in my own language" makes his expression of his love to her/him more personal and truer and more purer.
My take:)
Daaaamn
I thought it was world war 3 backwards.
@@aFoxyFox. possibly haha
@@nonstickbrute7941 lol thank you for laughing as well! I liked your ideas a lot!
Also the statue of juliet in verona is damaged because of the rubbing hands of tourist thinking that caressing her brest would give them good luck
I think the video is about grievance. So at the beginning, the whole village and family are carrying the coffin and then there's a small group of people carrying her and then ultimately its just the man and his donkey, then just the man. I think this represents how over time, less and less people are grieving for her but her assumed lover in the story continues to grieve. I think the wolves represent people telling him to get over it and move on and the donkey represents his sanity which is broken by the wolves. He continues to try and push on but the grief that he is literally carrying on his back is too much for him and it results in his suicide. I'm probably completely off but that's just what I took from it. Fuck alt j is beautiful. Like a Mexican Romeo and Juliet
very very good impressionistic analysis. excellent and original description .
This made my heart break, but thank you
Wow.
I actually agree with you and I don't think you're far off. I think most works are meant to be interpreted by the individual, but that's close to what I perceived it as too.
Damn that was deep
Awesome video... im so proud of this magical And mystical México... So Rulfo
I often am just drawn back to this song
And once again we call to you.
Truly magical!
Uriel Cervantes, thank you :) I was trying to find the meaning of this video. So, its a novel, right?
We're not all as well read.

Here's the Lyric:
"3WW"
(feat. Ellie Rowsell)
[Gus Unger-Hamilton:]
There was a wayward lad
Stepped out one morning
The ground to be his bed
The sky his awning
[Joe Newman:]
Neon, neon, neon
A blue neon lamp in a midnight country field
Can't surround so you lean on, lean on
So much your heart's become fond of this
[Joe Newman + Gus Unger-Hamilton:]
Oh, these three worn words
Oh, that we whisper
Like the rubbing hands
Of tourists in Verona
I just want to love you in my own language
[Joe Newman:]
Well, that smell of sex
Good like burning wood
The wayward lad laid claim
To two thirsty girls from Hornsea
Who left a note when morning came
[Ellie Rowsell:]
Girls from the pool say "Hi" (hi)
The road erodes at five feet per year
Along England's east coastline
Was this your first time?
Love is just a button we pressed
Last night by the campfire
[Joe Newman + Ellie Rowsell:]
Oh, these three worn words
Oh, that we whisper
Like the rubbing hands
Of tourists in Verona
I just want to love you in my own language
Ink 95
I thought it's "To two busty girls..."
re.gional yn
I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be. I keep replaying that verse and can't hear, "thristy," anywhere.
I dont get the lyrics..whisper words like rubbing tourist hands? leaning on neonlight that cant surround? huh? what do you mean? whats youre point? does the clip has a point as well? what is it? and whats whit the coffin?..Love the music though..theres nothing like it!!
vinnie X
It's supposed to be describing the feelings that go within loving someone. It also seems to be implying in this song that the man in question had a three-way with two girls, who left him by the next day, only leaving a note. The whole song is just describing a campfire night out with a man and two women who happen to all have sex together. However, in the misic video, it makes the lyrics seem more deep than that, that it's more about the whole concept of love and the emotions and experiences that come with it. The music video is displaying a sort of Romeo and Juliet story, if you remember in Romeo and Juliet, Juliet fakes her own death with a priest, so she can visit her Romeo, who was banished. However, Romeo never got word of her plans, and visited her corpse, commiting suicide on her deathbed, and Juliet does the same when she wakes up. It seems like with this Romeo and Juliet, he already knew of her plans, which is why he steals her away from the people burying her. But in the end, after she awakens, she finds her Romeo dead by her deathbed.

Homestly it made me cry when I first saw the music video.
Every Alt-J song takes me on a different journey... from Taro or Nara to the more recent ones... there are very few bands/artist who do that these days! Thank You, guys! Love you
One of the best music videos ever! Worthy of the song
4:39 - 5:27 I love this part, partially because it's different from the rest of the song, but also because it embodies the man's feelings so well. The slow, subtly skewed tune embodies the frustration, tiredness, and haze of the mind the man must be experiencing, carrying this heavy coffin under the hot sun with dogs attacking him at the end.
Yes I want a loop of only this XD
RIGHT?????? couldnt agree more to both of you. i love the whole song and the video is awesome but that part's just pure bliss/pain/love/all at once
i hardly agree@@didolavox9647
Today i got a new interpretation on this... when the girl takes off the plant it’s a metaphor for an old saying we have in brazil that tells us that when we are suffering we have to “cut the evil from its roots”: in spite of the bigger Pain when we do this, later it will be better. The man carrying the coffin is a metaphor for us carrying the Weight and the pain of a loved one or a relationship that’s already dead, until the Point it gets so unbearable that he dies too - his feelings are gone. When he does this, he liberates the girl - now she’s free. It’s like in the end he gets to the same point where she was when she initially decided to end the relationship “cutting the evil from its roots.” Anyone gets that too?
How the fuck Is that related to Mexico
Yeah ..i get it
Do you think that's what the root is at the beginning? And how wld some boys from leeds know that?? But it makes absolute sense
She died my dude
Years later, years of listening, and years of tears. alt-j’s songs still are different. They way the speak truth and there poetry just makes a human want to cry. Understanding what they went threw to play a song this deep is amazing and tear shedding. “ I just want to love you in my own language “
I just love it when you can't work out where a great song is going. But you know you are really going to enjoy the journey and none of the directions it takes are disappointing.

. Stay strong. Love from India.
i've never had so many goose bumps with just one song
This is gonna be the best album of 2017.
I am fascinated hearing this song as an 53 old . Its a hammer, pure art..
Alt J is the best human history band. First they talked about social radical practices/atrocities in An Awesome Wave, then about photographers and the times of war in This is all yours, now about magical realism and literature in Relaxer. They are the best, i want someone to make a theory linking all of their songs and themes

Alt-j, always telling beautiful stories with their music and videos ♥
That allusion to Verona.. What a beautiful reference to Romeo and Juliet!
No. is inspired in Juan Rulfo's Pedro Páramo novel.
Prove it, @Frncsc.
The "rubbing hands of tourists in Verona" are those on the breasts of Juliet's statue in Verona. Now, we know alt-J are influenced by literature and films, so there can be more influences on this song. But the myth of Romeo and Juliet is definitely beyond the lines of the song.

Brings back so many feelings and nostalgy to me, Alt J is by far one of the best bands there is at the moment, thanks for making songs which we can relate to and feel about (coming from someone who has difficulties expressing his emotions)
Can't stop coming back to this. And it still retains the same charm as my first time listening to this beauty. Dunno if it makes sense, but the entire deal, from the haunting video to the sublime tune, it all feels like flipping through a Marquez novel.
I think that this video is inspired by the work of Juan Rulfo. One of the most representative writers of Latin American magical realism. You need to read Pedro Páramo and El llano en llamas.
just bought Pedro Paramo recently! very excited to read it!
Juliána Horváthová Death pervades the entire novel, both in a literal and figurative sense. Literally, it is death that both incites the main action and complicates the protagonist's quest; his mother dies and asks him to find his father, and he soon discovers his father is dead as well. Juan is led into Comala byAbundio's ghost. The reader learns later that Abundio is the person who murdered Pedro. Comala is a ghost town, having been deserted by the exodus of rural villagers to the cities following the revolution. In Comala, Juan meets several ghosts and hears the persistent murmurs of others - including his mother. Halfway through the novel, when Pedro Páramo dies sitting in his equipment longing for Susana San Juan, Damiana, who already dead, touches his shoulders and Pedro answers "I'm going". Juan dies but he still continues to narrate from his grave. Death is not final in Comala; the dead wander their purgatory hoping for absolution. The questions of memory and nostalgia also echo this sense of death in that they also concern the passing on of life.
In my thought, after seeing this video, yes, It was exactly about magical realism.. But I see it more like Indian' wisdom n ritual stuff.. The roots that she pulled out at the beginning was a hallucinogenic cactus called peyote which will use to separate the "dead girl's" soul from her body (cuz she asked "will it hurt?" while holding the root). That's why she's not actually dead. She's just experiencing a ritual called "separate reality" by consumed those roots, which made her alive in "another reality" (becoming bird - look at the raven at the coffin - or etc) This ritual oftenly done by persons who need to free their spirits from conflicts, to find peacefulnes, to contemplate, or seeking some values of life.. U also have to read "The Teachings of Don Juan" by Carlos Castaneda to understand more about it :p
this made me think of the Carlos Castaneda books. the fire within...a seperate reality... the teachings of don Juan...journey to ixtalan.

Ellie's voice here really makes me fall for her *_*
I've watched this video plenty of times since it first came out, but today for some reason it hit different and it makes me want to cry.
i just want to love you in my own language...
mem c I love this part of the lyrics :)
Just be sure your intentions come across as your way of showing love....don't allow your language to be misinterpretted. Personally I'd rather my person know that I love them, there should be no doubt in their mind I'm always acting in the loving intentions of my heart regardless who the person is. Why cant we all just love each other? I see the snakes in peoples eyes dance....when they see their opportunity to strike. Everybody strives for something, but if we put our selfish reptilian wants aside and did selfless acts of kindness in our every single interaction, we all could prosper....thrive....not just struggle trying to survive....society, government, childhood programming the old system wont work anymore. For snakes, people dont shed their skin so well I'm tired of the cobwebs from all the lies the spinners spun. It's the rise of a new sun, a new day. We gotta go in with a fresh approach leaving everything we once knew behind. Not forgetting but moving forward in stride with our purpose. When these people gonna rise with me? When's this crowd gonna stand with me like a forest's of redwoods? They're letting Gaia's forests burn and for what? We ain't gonna be silent. The truth bombs will rain justice on the unrighteous
Can you please explain to me what is this line means at the context of the song? I’m not an English speaking person and I’m afraid that I can’t get it not because of metaphor but because of bad language knowing and bad understanding of the whole lyrics of the song
@@sibkhan2364 Hi! I think "i just want to love you in my own language" conveys wanting to love someone in a way that makes sense and feels meaningful to you. Loving someone in a way that is private, personal, and full of feeling. Rather than referring to a language such as English, Farsi, or Spanish, it refers to the language of one's heart. Loving someone in your own language means loving them in the purest way possible, without an ounce of contrivance or deception. Its the language that comes straight out of your heart, with no filter of shame, fear, or cynicism. I hope this helps, and I appreciate the question!
mem c thank you!
I had many ideas for this video and this song but I never thought of something like this. It really hits me emotional.
This vid is fucking amazing and the song is incredibly beautiful....
I immediately recognised Ellie’s voice as the female vocalist.Everything ends up sounding so angelic when she’s on it .
Yeees!! Her voice is unique!
I absolutely adore the cinematography in this! Especially those still shots that were like a 3D picture, anyone know how they do them?
serendipity. i forgot what the technique is called, but basically they set up lots and lots of cameras in a circle or semicircle of some kind, and they take a picture all really quickly, and they're able to blend all the pictures (from different angles) together to create that 3D picture feel. cool isn't it?
Connor O'Brien Woah yeah that's awesome! That would take so much effort
+Connor O'Brien That's right ;) the technique is called Bullet Time (became famous through "The Matrix") however it is nowadays possible to recreate the effect using Editing tricks and systems. "Filmriot" (a great Indie Filmmaking channel) has a video on how they did it for one of their sketches :)
@@Brick1610 Thank you :)
@@Honeylollipops Though Bullet Time is a possible method, I'm pretty that most of the shots in the video are just very still actors and practical effects like wires. Traditional Bullet Time is impossible for shots like the one that starts 1:26 since multiple cameras would capture other cameras. It could potentially be done with a super high fps camera and fast camera tracking but that's unlikely to be the sole method. You can also spot some of the actors slightly moving such as the middle-right candle holding lady at 1:36 and the man to the far right that appears at 1:40 . CGI is probably used also such as the birds at 1:45 or floating rocks at 5:08. (Plus high-fps paired with fast camera tracking also helps)
I don't always listen to this song, but when I do, I listen repeatedly non-stop and wear it out til next time.
I can see references to Carl Dreyer 's film "Vampyr" (1932) here, especially the coffin window and the work with the black and white photography, if you liked the atmosphere of this video, run and watch this masterpiece, the most poetic and gothic vampire film ever, in my opinion. Thanks to Alt-j for their deep music, it feels so good to see that this kind of video can have more than 3 million views!

um it makes me so happy to hear my language and culture in a music video by a uk band that I adore!!!!!! Definitely awesome video.
There was a wayward lad
Stepped out one morning
The ground to be his bed
The sky his awning
Neon, neon, neon
A blue neon lamp in a midnight country field
Can't surround so you lean on, lean on
So much your heart's become fond of this
Oh, these three worn words
Oh, let me whisper like the rubbing hands
Of tourists in Verona
I just want to love you in my own language
Well, that smell of sex
Good like burning wood
The wayward lad laid claim
To two thirsty girls from Hornsea
Who left a note when morning came
Girls from the pool say "Hi" (hi)
The road erodes at five feet per year
Along England's east coastline
Was this your first time?
Love is just a button we pressed
Last night by the campfire
Oh, these three worn words
Oh, that we whisper like the rubbing hands
Of tourists in Verona
I just want to love you in my own language
Please never stop making music!! I don't know what I would do without your music! 🎶
