That place was a joke. I was at this race and also the two NASCAR truck races that took place there. The grandstands were temporary. Every time a pack of trucks went by it felt like they were gonna collapse. They (Disney) tried to get you to sign a waiver before entering the track. I told them I wasn't signing anything. What a Micky Mouse operation that place was.
I find it funny that every 10 Laps it seems the leader crashes and a different one takes his place while Tony Stewart just sits in second the entire time
What a great race love these late 90s IRL cars the cautions got pretty annoying thou really wish Disney wouldn't have shut down this track these throwback Thursday races are awesome
I appreciate the upload of this race, but I think it's common courtesy to consider that people who clicked on this might want to enjoy it without the ending being spoiled. If you have something valuable to add to the ending, then at least bury it deep enough that it won't show on the top line of the description.
Nice feature on the young Tony Stewart in this. Otherwise this was quite painful to watch. This is from a time where this Series was just a complete joke!
Ben Liebich this is the first year I've got into indycar fully. ive seen bits over the years and was reading about the i.r.l and cart. why was there separation? and why was it so pants?
Because CART failed. Both had big financial issues which is why in the beginning of the video they announcer says this season of cost effective racing. Unlike other racing series Indycar has almost always had financial issues, except I think now, at least I hope they don't have financial issues now, they don't really give any quarterly reports, but Indy and PWC and sometimes NASCAR are the only series I watch.
TheBlackdragonnight I see. ive been into formula 1 since I can remember (1994 to be precise) and it seems like similar issues. rising costs & the new/little teams struggling with costs etc. at the start of this video I could really tell the announcer was trying to sell the series to the viewer. almost over compensating for it. ive gotten into nascar too. I used to turn my nose at racing from.the u.s.a but I'm really starting to appreciate it now.
why do you think they only have 22 cars today? money issues won't go away. and it's only indycar that's had these issues? hi..imsa and the scca are calling
the irl came about because Tony George wanted more of a say in things, though he never spoke up in meatings. and wanted more sprint/midget guys running in the series. i like sprints and midgets, but that era long past
RIP Walt Disney World Speedway
1995 - 2015
I believe they got rid of it due to safety, though I’m not sure.

The only thing I like about Walt Disney is the track layout, everything else freaking sucks.
Those 4.0L V8s sound like modern NASCAR engines. I always loved the sound of them for some odd reason growing up.
the rev a tad higher than nascar motors, but yeah
Reminds me a lot of Formula 5000
Love these cars
Man you're strange ;-)
I find it funny that every 10 Laps it seems the leader crashes and a different one takes his place while Tony Stewart just sits in second the entire time
Look at the size of that crowd!
So many yellows! I feel bad for them.💥🏎😓
yeah, that was a theme with the irl for a while
@@DeathToRetro666 It was tough to watch. They were the B-team for a very long time.

Intro at 0:45
ah gotcha
Please go back there!!!
Disney shut down the track last year.
Not only shut down, but tore down.
NotLovedGamer If you are referring to Sam Schmidt, he is very much still alive. Unless you're referring to somebody else who I don't know about.....
Kite ...???... Proof, please?
I am only asking because that completely slipped past my radar.
3 wrecks in 31 laps
Hi.
Shockingly loud and shockingly slow.
I'm not seeing the slow part.
Can't wait to see Disney employees sporting those tattoos and body piercings
I was there and this was the first IRL race...GO SMOKE!
No it wasn't, the first IRL race was indeed at Walt Disney World Speedway but it was in 1996 not 1998.

Boy these were some awful cars. Ugly, loud, slow.
Calling a racecar loud a bad thing is incredible. You must hate just about every race except for formula E
