I have searched high and low and haven't been able to find anything. Yosemite is probably the worst and most buggy update they have released. But I've also noticed that Apple is getting smart because I have experienced problems with cords that sold through Apple. I can't even connect my iPhone to my Mac if the cord isn't made by Apple.
Thats one thing they do that really pisses me off. Initially lightning cables by 3rd party manufacturers stop working. Imagine buying a $50 charger for your iPhone that stops working. Do you think if I get an Apple certified thunderbolt to HDMI device , it would help the issue? Quite aggravating but its all good :) This is why I keep a "pc" laptop handy...
Update: did a clean install and downgraded back to Maverick and my Thunderbolt to HDMI(Tv) still does not work. Yosemite killed my Thunderbolt.. YOSEMITE IS HORRIBLE! Pisses me off so bad!
I had the same problem, however it was the thunderbolt cable that had the problem. I ordered a cable directly from the thunderbolt to the HDMI port and it works perfectly.
WE HAVE A BRAND NEW CABLE, THE ONE THAT CONNECTS DIRECTLY TO THE MACBOOK AND THE TV, IT DIDN'T WORK. WE GOT A BRAND NEW THUNDERBOLT ADAPTER AND A BRAND NEW HDMI CABLE AND IT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. WE TRY VGA AND IT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. WTF!
Hey gang I think I have the fix! its odd but here it goes! step 1 power down you mac and your TV. step 2 unplug TV from wall. step 3 plug in your HDMI cord from your mac to TV, step 4 boot up your Mac, and step 5 plug TV in and power on TV............. everything should work! just don't rush the steps and let your mac boot and tv power up.. hope this helps! Cheers!!!!
i have a macbook air (december 2012) and i noticed it doesn't work with the new updates. all my cables work thunderbolt/hdmi port is good...should i go back to maverick and see if it works?
Susquanna Smith Go to sound settings and select your TV. After my update I lost my audio as well, so I went to system preferences-sound-output and select (my TV).... just make sure your thunderbolt cable is connected to your TV so that option becomes visible.
ours does not work in caspian through a (3 Port INPUT 1 OUT HDMI 1080P Switch Switcher Splitter) But oddly enough. Works fantastic, Routed through our Yamaha RX-850 Surround Av Amplifiers AV configuration
Brian S - Sorry, I don’t actually know what was wrong. I just booted into SafeMode, unplugged it a few times, and that seemed to work. Since then I’ve had no problem...
FRIEND OF MINE HAS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. THE TV WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE SIGNAL FROM THE LAPTOP - 2011 MACBOOK PRO, SIERRA OS. WE CONNECT A WINDOWS LAPTOP TO IT AND VIOLA! THERE YOU GO THE DAMN TV SCREEN WORKING. IT WORKS WITH WINDOWS BUT NOT THE MACBOOK. WTF!
My mini DVI to HDMI worked at begining, then it stop working...I saw many people have this problem, but couldnt find a solution yet. My Samsung Note 8 connected with my Sony TV well after I did a factory resetting oj Sony TV, but no luck with my Mac
same thing happened when i updated my Macbook pro 15 late 2011 to Yosemite 10.10.4, I haven't notice since this last update Is there any real solution on this?
I have a 2012 MBP, i am running the latest OSX el capitan(w/e). The hdmi works great with my TV(samsung) but not with a monitor(Asus VS248) i bought. The monitor is brand new, i tested it out with my PC works great. i have tried everything with the mac, restarts, calibrations....anyone figure out whats going on?
You know my thunderbolt is fine because i have an adapter from the thunderbolt to a VGA and it works BUT when i connect my other adapter from the USB to a HDMI cable it is not working.....:(
The same happens to me. I've tried everything and nothing. I have another macbook pro 2012 and I use the same cable, the same monitor and it works normally. I've thought about changing the thunderbolt port, but as mentioned it works normally with a thunderbolt to VGA adapter.
I love apple macs, don't know why y'all are having negative comments, dude, it could just be your cable.....lol. I assumed theta you would have checked that though, and it could be because you have to go through your files under you machd drive. I have had so many problems with my windows, literately all of them. It could might be even your port.
Its an information video. You have nothing productive to contribute. I own or have owned all Apple products until recently Macbook Pro, iPad, iPod, iPhone.. but Yosemite has been the worst update yet. Just check the ratings under Yosemite. Nonetheless, there is a solution provided. And for the next person looking for a solution to the same problem they can easily come here.
Bought an HD to thunderbolt adapter (10in) and stopped using my direct to thunderbolt to Hd cord and downgraded to Maverick just because and guess what..... It works!!
Bobby Markham www.amazon.com/Belkin-Displayport-Thunderbolt-Adapter-Black/dp/B00COEBCXY my direct HDMI to thunderbolt cable went out so got this and tried then whatayaknow it worked
Mateen Flores if you read the comments you will see that there have been solutions provided. People post videos looking for help and other with the same issie. Sheeeesh dig a little deeper. Smh
Are you crazy? This video does nothing but shows how you don't know how to connect your cable. Turn the TV off. Don't turn it on until you have connected the HDMI. Try again. Geez.
My Video is old and if you read the comments you would see solutions. If it was that simple and plugging before switch on the TV was the solution this video wouldn’t have been made. Try again smart guy!

Mavericks did that to me so I can't complain about Yosemite too much. As in it had already taken place.
Mine died when I installed a security update for the thunderbolt... i guess they dont want them to work lol
same problem here.. did you solve it ?
I'm having the same problem with the El Capitan update. i'm so upset.

OVERALL it sounds like someone needs to make a tutorial on potentially downgrading to Maverick, installing hardware, and then which controls to use.
4 years later and still no fix smh
I have updated to Yosemite on my 2012 MBP. I have thunderbolt > HDMI cable & all runs well...
me too
Michael Banks How are your audio controls set. My picture shows up great after my update, but I get no audio through my cable anymore. Please help.

Try booting into SafeMode by holding ‘shift’ on startup.

I change my second display resolution ( 1600 x 900. To 1360 x 768 ) and it's work for me .
