  • After the Nashville Covenant School shooting on March 27, 2023, Music Artist Ketch Secor, a Nashville resident and parent of two, decided it was time to speak out and take action against gun violence. Not long after the tragedy, which claimed the lives of 3 adults and 3 children, Secor wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times titled "Country Music Can Lead America Out of Its Obsession With Guns." In this video, Ketch Secor a Grammy-Award Winning Singer-Songwriter, joins Neuroscientist and Opera Stage Director, Dr. Indre Viskontas for an episode of One Creative Mind to discuss "gun culture" in America and the role that music can play in creating change.
In addition to being an award winning music artist, as well as a father of two young children, Ketch Secor is also a founding member of the Episcopal School of Nashville. In his NYT opinion piece, Secor calls on fellow country musicians to oppose military-style assault weapons / assault-style rifles. In this Ketch Secor interview, the Old Crow Medicine Show singer, perhaps best known for "Wagon Wheel" aka "Hey mama, rock me" which in 2013 was covered and popularized by Darius Rucker, explains how he believes country music and especially country singers in the Nashville community can help lead the change towards enacting gun laws and policies that prevent gun violence an create a safer America for all.
